The origin of the Newport Tower is one of the most hotly debated topics of Colonial American history. The discovery of astronomical alignments in the tower in the 1990's led to more investigation into the enigmatic tower. Jim Egan, the curator of the Newport Tower museum takes you on a tour of the Tower's origins. According to historian David Beers Quinn the first English colony in America was to be settled in the area now known as Narragansett Bay in 1583. Egan's research indicates that this tower is all that remains of those efforts. According to Egan, the Newport Tower is the oldest European-built structure in the continental United States. Jim explains the rest of the story at his Newport Tower Museum (adjacent to the tower) and online at http://newporttowermuseum.com Video b...
While Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering America for the European world, some see the Newport Tower in Rhode Island as evidence of an earlier contact. Widely accepted to be the remains of a windmill built in the 1700s, the squat round tower shows archeological signs that it was shaped by much older trans-oceanic influences. To the layman's eye the structure appears to simply be a stone platform supported on a cylinder of tall arches, clearly the remains of some type of milling operation. While the tower was a relic in the 1800s, carbon dating of the mortar from the stones has placed the construction of the site sometime in the 1600s. Despite the continued scientific evidence, there are those who hold onto the belief that the tower is evidence of some unknown, pre-Columbian ...

The Newport Tower is one of the most amazing structures in North America. Follow Jim Egan (recently featured on the History Channel's 'America Unearthed' TV show, as he discusses the history of the Newport Tower with numerous tourists and passersby. Included is the astronomical alignments of the Tower, the camera obscura calendar room, and the early English settlement efforts in New England. Jim presented his best defense against the America Unearthed Host Scott Wolter, but much of his evidence was left on the cutting room floor. Here he tells his side of the story. In 1990 William Penhallow, a professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Rhode Island discovered several astronomical alignments in the windows of the Newport Tower. The discovery of these astronomical alignmen...
John Shannon Hendrix, Ph.D., Professor of Architectural History, believes that it has been proven conclusively that the Newport Tower, or Old Stone Mill, in Newport Rhode Island, was designed as a Horologium, or timekeeper, and as an aedificium, a building designed to instruct or represent certain philosophies. He is particularly interested in Jim Egan's conclusions that the Newport Tower was designed by Elizabethan philosopher John Dee, whose was involved in early English efforts to colonize Rhode Island in the 1580's.
Hi, my name is Jim Egan, professional photographer and curator of the Newport Tower Museum. I've been studying this mysterious stone-and-mortar Tower in Newport Rhode Island for the past 20 years and have found conclusive evidence that it was designed in the year 1583 by the English polymath John Dee to be the city center of the first Elizabethan colony in the New World. It's a combination of Classical Architecture, a circular Temple as discussed by Vitruvius in 25 BC, and Christian Architecture, a "replica" of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, built in 325 AD by Emperor Constantine, to protect the tomb of Jesus. This classical-church-tower also functioned as a horologium, a building that keeps track of time, with three internal camera-obscura solar-disc calendar-rooms to help determi...
12.18.2014: The curious stone tower in Newport's Touro Park known as the “Old Stone Mill” is one of the most significant and at the same time, least appreciated historic sites in the United States. Theories about who built it and for what purpose are numerous. Jim Egan has his own theories and he’ll be glad to tell you about them at his Newport Tower Museum, across the street from the park. One aspect that is not in dispute is that the tower works as a celestial time keeper. In this video, Jim explains the positions of windows and how they line up to predict certain astronomical events. The Winter Solstice is this Sunday and Jim says the usual crowd of celebrants numbers about 30 people, weather permitting. The sun rises is at 7:08 a.m. and after approximately an hour, it will s...
Perched atop a hill in Newport, Rhode Island, an old stone tower stands as one of this country's longest enduring architectural enigmas. Known by many names, including the Viking Tower, Old Stone Mill, and Mystery Tower, today this landmark is more commonly known as the Newport Tower. Of the various pirates who lurked along the wild, sparsely inhabited coasts of Newfoundland in the 16th and 17th centuries, Peter Easton was among the elite, most successful and best known. His plundering, which ranged from Newfoundland and the Grand Banks south to the Caribbean and Spanish Main, made him the scourge of the Western Atlantic for more than a decade. . http://www.jamesswagger.com/ http://www.capricornradio.com/ EXCLUSIVE 10% Discount on ALL Esoteric Courses http://www.esotericcollege.com/
