Edmund Gerald "Jerry" Brown Jr. (born April 7, 1938) is an American politician and lawyer who has been serving as the 39th Governor of California since 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, Brown previously served as the 34th Governor from 1975 to 1983, and is the longest-serving governor in California history. Prior to and following his first governorship, Brown served in numerous state, local and party positions, including three times a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.
As the only son of Edmund G. "Pat" Brown, Sr., the 32nd Governor of California (1959–1967), Jerry Brown himself began his political career as a member of the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees (1969–1971) before serving as Secretary of State of California (1971–1975). Elected Governor in 1974 at age 36, Brown was the youngest California governor in 111 years. He ran for his party's nomination in the 1976 presidential election, finishing second in popular vote, and a distant third in the convention vote, which was won by Governor Jimmy Carter of Georgia. Brown was re-elected Governor in 1978 and ran against fellow Democrat and incumbent President Jimmy Carter in the 1980 primaries. While challengers to incumbent presidents seldom gain traction, the challenge by Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts did, leaving Brown without any significant support.
Donald John Trump, Sr. (born June 14, 1946) is an American businessperson and media personality. He is the chairman and president of The Trump Organization and the founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts. Trump's career, branding efforts, personal life, wealth, and outspoken manner have made him famous throughout the country. Since 2015, he is also a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election.
Trump is a native of New York City and a son of Fred Trump, who inspired him to enter real estate development. After two years at Fordham University and while studying at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Trump worked for his father's firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son. Upon graduating in 1968 he joined the company, and in 1971 was given control, renaming the company "The Trump Organization". Since then he has built hotels, golf courses, and other properties, many of which bear his name. He is a major figure in the American business scene and has received prominent media exposure. The NBC reality show The Apprentice bolstered his fame, and his three marriages were extensively reported in tabloids.

California Gov. Jerry Brown said Friday if he were Vice President Joe Biden, he’d give “very serious consideration” to running for president — and suggested a Biden bid could spell trouble for frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s White House hopes. “All I can say is, if I were Hillary, I would say [to Biden], ‘Don’t jump in.’ If I were Joe Biden, I’d probably give it very serious consideration,” he said in an interview that aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Brown’s comments come as Clinton has seen her lead in polls of the Democratic field shrink by nearly half since June, amid the continuing controversy surrounding her use of a private email account and server while serving as secretary of State.
BROWN: ... And by the way, Proposition 30 taxed in a significant degree to the tune of billions of dollars the most successful people who have incomes over 500 thousand dollars a year. So that does deal raise the minimum wage to ten dollars, much higher than the national. And taxing people 13 percent, and extra 3 percent on the highest incomes. They didn't end up doing that ... almost no other states. A few states may do it, a few cities. We're taking steps but we're in a competitive environment. But we're right next to Nevada. Nevada has zero income tax. At some point, people can move. So we have to balance in our corporate tax, in our income taxes, and all our regulatory burdens that are achieving social objectives that are desired. But we are just a piece of America and we gotta bring p...

In response to national outrage over the six-month jail sentence given to a former Stanford University swimmer for assaulting a woman passed out near a trash bin, California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed two sexual assault laws. Ending the possibility of brief jail sentences like the one Brock Turner received in June, the Democratic governor announced his approval Friday of laws requiring longer sentences to be served in state prison for defendants convicted of assaulting unconscious victims. Turner faced a minimum sentence of two years in state prison.Prosecutors argued for six years. But in imposing a shorter term in county jail Santa Clara County, Judge Aaron Persky cited the "extraordinary circumstances" of Turner's youth and clean criminal record. The new law removes a judge's discretio...
California Gov. Jerry Brown this week signed into law a very different kind of “bathroom bill” for his state. Rather than restrict access to public restrooms for transgender people, as is the case of North Carolina’s infamous House Bill 2, California’s new legislation will ensure equal access to public toilets, regardless of a person’s gender identity. Starting next spring, all of California’s single-user restrooms in public buildings will be designated as “gender neutral.” According to Assemblyman Phil Ting, a Democrat who sponsored the bill, this establishes “the nation’s most inclusive restroom access law among states.” http://fusion.net/story/353038/california-gender-neutral-bathroom/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

California Governor Jerry Brown has just signed off on two new sexual assault bills. He signed one bill requiring state prison time for someone convicted of assaulting an unconscious victim. The other bill he signed permits sexual assault victims to say in court that they were raped, even if the attack doesn't meet the technical legal definition. These bills emerged after former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner raped a woman passed out near a trash bin. Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill eliminating California's 10-year time limit for prosecutors to file rape and child molestation charges. Brown made the announcement without comment Wednesday amid a nationwide debate sparked by sexual assault allegations against comedian Bill Cosby. Beginning next year, the new law will end the statute of limitations in certain rape and child molestation cases. It will also end the time limit on older cases in which the statute of limitations has not yet expired. The new law, SB813, will not, however, help women who made allegations against Cosby dating back more than 10 years. http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/4e67281c3f754d0696fbfdee0f3f1469/Article_2016-09-28-US-XGR--Cosby-Rape%20Statute/id-54e03b5ab55a4a12884439b0d03ea535 http://www.wochit.com This vid...

Governor Jerry Brown The California Dream was built on a system of public schools and colleges that gave every Californian access to the education needed to get ahead. Gov. Jerry Brown is pushing hard for Prop. 30 because he says "we can't keep cutting our schools and still keep the economy strong for the next generation." In the last four years alone, California schools have been hit with $20 billion in cuts, over 30,000 fewer teachers and class sizes that are among the largest in the country. Brown says his Prop. 30 stops the cuts, stops the steep tuition hikes, and invests in our schools and colleges to prepare the next generation for the jobs of the future.
