North Brother Island may refer to:
North Brother is a mountain located in Baxter State Park, Piscataquis County, Maine. North Brother is flanked to the northeast by Fort Mountain, and to the southwest by South Brother; collectively the two are called "The Brothers."
The south and east sides of North Brother drains into a swampy area called "The Klondike", then into Wassataquoik Stream, the East Branch of the Penobscot River, and into Penobscot Bay. The north and west sides of North Brother drain into Little Nesowadnehunk Stream, Nesowadnehunk Stream, and the West Branch of the Penobscot River.
The Appalachian Trail, a 2,170 mi (3,490 km) National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine, reaches its northern terminus, on the summit of Mount Katahdin, 5 mi (8.0 km) to the southeast of The Brothers.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
An island /ˈaɪlənd/ or isle /ˈaɪl/ is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, skerries, cays or keys. An island in a river or a lake island may be called an eyot or ait, or a holm. A grouping of geographically or geologically related islands is called an archipelago, e.g. the Philippines.
An island may be described as such despite the presence of an artificial land bridge, for example Singapore and its causeway, or the various Dutch delta islands, such as IJsselmonde. Some places may even retain "island" in their names for historical reasons after being connected to a larger landmass by a wide land bridge, such as Coney Island or Coronado Island. Conversely, when a piece of land is separated from the mainland by a man-made canal, for example the Peloponnese by the Corinth Canal, it is generally not considered an island.
There are two main types of islands: continental islands and oceanic islands. There are also artificial islands.

North Brother Island is an amazing adventure. Kayaking through the East River makes it a unique experience. Most of the buildings are so decayed you can't make it inside them, but it's a great sight walking around the island seeing how much nature has taken back. Unfortunately we didn't realize we left our lights at home until we made it to the island, sorry for the quality in darker areas. Filmed with a go-pro hero 3+ We used the "dead island theme song". I do not own this song.

North Brother Island has a rich history that is still reflected in its abandoned landscape and buildings. This is an island off of New York and now owned by New York. New York City saw the worst tragedy in American history on September 11, 2001. Before that day, the worst tragedy was the sinking of the General Slocum, which has connections to North Brother Island. The island also was home to Riverside Hospital, a quarantine hospital for those suffering from horrible and contagious diseases like small pox. Many died there. And for twenty-three years, Typhoid Mary called this island home. There are rumors that the island is not completely abandoned. Spirits seem to have remained. The chipping paint, peeling wallpaper, and threadbare linoleum floors of 97 Orchard are more than relics of long ago. They are evocative of life lived and illuminate the stories and events of the past. In an appreciation of ruins Andrew Dolkart, director of Columbia’s historic preservation program, Katherine Malone-France, of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Christopher Payne, photographer of North Brother Island: The Last Unknown Place in New York City, and Marisa Scheinfeld, who documented abandoned resorts of the Borscht Belt in the Catskills, gather to discuss the significance of these spaces.
