Ok, dakle… Danas sam dovršio moj izazov učenja jezika. Pokušao sam u sedam dana naučiti što više srpskohrvatskog. Pronašao sam i Martinu kako bih pokušao održati kratki razgovor s njom na srpskohrvatskom da bih vidio koliko sam naučio. Pogledajmo onda!
Please note we recorded it in a loud coffee shop and I probably sound hilarious in my attempt to speak Serbo-Croatian after a week but I am really excited about the language - I find it beautiful and I think this week served as a good starting point to gain some momentum and accumulate as much knowledge as possible to start learning the language!
Conclusão do desafio de aprendizado de língua em sete dias! Eis a primeira parte da minha conversa em servo-croata que depois de uma semana de bastante aprendizado! O meu sotaque deve ser hilário e eu tive bastante dificuldades mas eu aprendi bastante nestes sete dias! :) espero que vocês gostem! OK, one very fast and simple video from Croatian and Serbian versions of new Pixar movie "Brave"
1st is Serbian, & 2nd part is Croatian.

After recent Serbian dubs of TLK, Cinderella... comes another one for the brand new Pixar movie.
Croatian dubbing studio for Disney movies has made these two dubs in two languages - Croatian and Serbian - that's one interesting information.
Serbian and Croatian are very, very, very, very close languages. So close that if you know one language /for example: Serbian/, you know at least 90-95% of a other language /e. g. Croatian/. One of biggest difference is that the Serbian language use the Cyrillic alphabet (along with Latin alphabet, but Cyrillic is the 1st alphabet in Serbia(n)), and Croatian use only the Latin alphabet. Once upon a time in Yugoslavia (la la la la...), both languages were called Serbo-Croatian or Croato-Serbian, but there was allways a difference.
Serbia and Croatia have a really long and difficult history. Two close Slavic nations who speak almost the same language, but the relationship between these countries, unfortunately, are not good. I hope that the future is brighter!
Songs weren't dubbed :(
Why not? Read this response from Croatian Disney representatives about undubbed songs in „Brave":
"Songs from 'Brave' were written separately and as such they are independent and they don't have direct influence on the course of the movie. Dubbed songs was a free choice of each dubbing studio around the world. This practice was approved by Disney supervisors. As for any film before Disney selects all songs from each movie that are required to have a dub. Songs from 'Brave' have not been selected, except 'Song of Mor'du'. Special promotion of the 'Brave' in some countries such as Czech, Poland or Romania, was also included a special theme music video into local languages, but Croatia is too small market for it - this is an estimate of Disney Representatives."

Croatian (hrvatski jezik) is a form of the Serbo-Croatian language spoken by Croats, principally in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serbian province of Vojvodina and other neighbouring countries.
Standard and literary Croatian is based on the central dialect, Shtokavian (Štokavian), more specifically on Eastern Herzegovinian, which is also the basis of standard Serbian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin. The other dialects spoken by Croats are Chakavian (Čakavian), Kajkavian, and Torlakian (by the Krashovani). These four dialects, and the four national standards, are commonly subsumed under the term "Serbo-Croatian" in English, though this term is controversial for native speakers and paraphrases such as "Bosnian-Croatian-Montenegrin-Serbian" are therefore sometimes used instead, especially in diplomatic circles.
Vernacular texts in the Chakavian dialect first appeared in the 13th century, and Shtokavian texts appeared a century later. Standardization began in the period sometimes called "Baroque Slavism" in the first half of the 17th century, while some authors date it back to the end of 15th century. The modern Neo-Shtokavian standard that appeared in the mid 18th century was the first unified Croatian literary language.

Living in Zagreb: The Croatian Language
Croatian is considered by many to be among the most melodic of the Southern Slavic languages. Although the country only has a population of fewer than five million, students of the language often find that knowledge of Croatian gives them linguistic access to a regional population of over 20 million people. It's true that the complex grammar may seem daunting to the newcomer, but on the other hand, the fact that Croatian uses the Latin alphabet makes it relatively easy for English speakers to get the basics down. Locals are especially appreciative of foreigners who learn the basics, which shouldn't be hard given the large number of language schools in Zagreb. Ok, dakle… Danas sam dovršio moj izazov učenja jezika. Pokušao sam u sedam dana naučiti što više srpskohrvatskog. Pronašao sam i Martinu kako bih pokušao održati kratki razgovor s njom na srpskohrvatskom da bih vidio koliko sam naučio. Pogledajmo onda!
Please note we recorded it in a loud coffee shop and I probably sound hilarious in my attempt to speak Serbo-Croatian after a week but I am really excited about the language - I find it beautiful and I think this week served as a good starting point to gain some momentum and accumulate as much knowledge as possible to start learning the language!
Conclusão do desafio de aprendizado de língua em sete dias! Eis a primeira parte da minha conversa em servo-croata que depois de uma semana de bastante aprendizado! O meu sotaque deve ser hilário e eu tive bastante dificuldades mas eu aprendi bastante nestes sete dias! :) espero que vocês gostem! After recent Serbian dubs of TLK, Cinderella... comes another one for the brand new Pixar movie.
Croatian dubbing studio for Disney movies has made these two dubs in two languages - Croatian and Serbian - that's one interesting information.
Serbian and Croatian are very, very, very, very close languages. So close that if you know one language /for example: Serbian/, you know at least 90-95% of a other language /e. g. Croatian/. One of biggest difference is that the Serbian language use the Cyrillic alphabet (along with Latin alphabet, but Cyrillic is the 1st alphabet in Serbia(n)), and Croatian use only the Latin alphabet. Once upon a time in Yugoslavia (la la la la...), both languages were called Serbo-Croatian or Croato-Serbian, but there was allways a difference.
Serbia and Croatia have a really long and difficult history. Two close Slavic nations who speak almost the same language, but the relationship between these countries, unfortunately, are not good. I hope that the future is brighter!
Songs weren't dubbed :(
Why not? Read this response from Croatian Disney representatives about undubbed songs in „Brave":
"Songs from 'Brave' were written separately and as such they are independent and they don't have direct influence on the course of the movie. Dubbed songs was a free choice of each dubbing studio around the world. This practice was approved by Disney supervisors. As for any film before Disney selects all songs from each movie that are required to have a dub. Songs from 'Brave' have not been selected, except 'Song of Mor'du'. Special promotion of the 'Brave' in some countries such as Czech, Poland or Romania, was also included a special theme music video into local languages, but Croatia is too small market for it - this is an estimate of Disney Representatives."

Croatian is considered by many to be among the most melodic of the Southern Slavic languages. Although the country only has a population of fewer than five million, students of the language often find that knowledge of Croatian gives them linguistic access to a regional population of over 20 million people. It's true that the complex grammar may seem daunting to the newcomer, but on the other hand, the fact that Croatian uses the Latin alphabet makes it relatively easy for English speakers to get the basics down. Locals are especially appreciative of foreigners who learn the basics, which shouldn't be hard given the large number of language schools in Zagreb. Those who don't have either the time to learn Croatian can get around the capital relatively easily using English. Knowledge of German and or Italian may also help in a pinch.
