The MacBook Pro is a line of Macintosh portable computers introduced in January 2006 by Apple Inc. It replaced the PowerBook G4 and was the second model, after the iMac, to be announced in the Apple–Intel transition. The MacBook Pro is the high end of the MacBook family and is currently produced with 13-, 15- and 17-inch screens.
There have been two designs for the MacBook Pro, both using aluminum. The first was largely a carry-over from the PowerBook G4, but used the Intel Core processors instead of PowerPC G4 chips. A 15-inch model was released in January 2006, a 17-inch model in April, both of which received several updates and Core 2 Duo processors later in the year.
The second model, known as the "unibody" model, has a more tapered design and a casing made from a single block of aluminum. It debuted in October 2008 as the 15-inch MacBook Pro and the 13-inch aluminum unibody MacBook. The following January brought the design to the 17-inch model, along with the built-in battery that joined the rest of the MacBook Pro line in June. Subsequent updates brought upgraded Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and introduced Intel's Thunderbolt technology.

What’s new here are Intel Broadwell Core i5 and i7 CPUs, and as per usual, the 13” Pro gets 28 watt CPUs that are faster than Ultrabook 15 watt CPUs. It has Intel Iris 6100 graphics for a boost over last year’s model and the SSD storage is twice as fast. The Mac starts at $1,299 for the 2.7GHz Core i5-5257U with 8 gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of storage. All models have dual band WiFi 802.11AC, Bluetooth 4.0 and a backlit keyboard. -

Currently the 13" Retina MacBook Pro was last updated in March 2015. The 15" Retina MacBook Pro was last updated in May 2015.
When will the new 2016 Retina MacBook Pros be announced?
It's rumored that the new models will be announced at the March 21 Apple event. If it doesn't get announced in March, it may get announced during the 2nd week of June at WWDC.
What new features will be on the 2016 MacBook Pro?
Most likely Intel's latest 6th gen Skylake processors. Currently the 13" MacBook Pro still has Broadwell from 2014 and the 15" still has Haswell from 2013.
Hopefully the 15" MacBook Pro doesn't get released later than the 13" like last year because by then Intel will probably release their 7th-gen processors.
PC competitors have already released Skylake machines that are featuring the Skylake processors.
New skylake archiecture will lead to faster CPU performance, massively improved internal GPU, and better power efficiency leading to longer battery life.
Will there be a new MacBook Pro design? The last redesign was in 2012 so we are due for a new design. Here's what the last few redesigns have looked like:
2001 Titanium: Apple's first metal body laptop
2003 Aluminum: Updated to Intel in early 2006
2008 Unibody Aluminum: Bonded glass display, chiclet style keyboard, multitouch trackpad
2012 Retina Unibody: Retina screens, no optical drives
Here are my expectactions based on the rumors for the 2016 MacBook Pro:
No major redesign, same shape but slightly thinner and lighter
Low-profile keyboard similar to MacBook
USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3
Same resolution but with new minor features like DCI-P3 color space
Color options of silver, space gray, and gold similar to MacBook
Thinner bezels
Keeping Magsafe charger

Currently the 13" Retina MacBook Pro was last updated in March 2015. The 15" Retina MacBook Pro was last updated in May 2015.
When will the new 2016 Retina MacBook Pros be announced?
It's rumored that the new models will be announced at the March 21 Apple event. If it doesn't get announced in March, it may get announced during the 2nd week of June at WWDC.
What new features will be on the 2016 MacBook Pro?
Most likely Intel's latest 6th gen Skylake processors. Currently the 13" MacBook Pro still has Broadwell from 2014 and the 15" still has Haswell from 2013.
Hopefully the 15" MacBook Pro doesn't get released later than the 13" like last year because by then Intel will probably release their 7th-gen processors.
PC competitors have already released Skylake machines that are featuring the Skylake processors.
New skylake archiecture will lead to faster CPU performance, massively improved internal GPU, and better power efficiency leading to longer battery life.
Will there be a new MacBook Pro design? The last redesign was in 2012 so we are due for a new design. Here's what the last few redesigns have looked like:
2001 Titanium: Apple's first metal body laptop
2003 Aluminum: Updated to Intel in early 2006
2008 Unibody Aluminum: Bonded glass display, chiclet style keyboard, multitouch trackpad
2012 Retina Unibody: Retina screens, no optical drives
Here are my expectactions based on the rumors for the 2016 MacBook Pro:
No major redesign, same shape but slightly thinner and lighter
Low-profile keyboard similar to MacBook
USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3
Same resolution but with new minor features like DCI-P3 color space
Color options of silver, space gray, and gold similar to MacBook
Thinner bezels
Keeping Magsafe charger

The design and casing are identical to the last gen model, as is the 2560 x 1600 IPS display. What’s new here are Intel Broadwell Core i5 and i7 CPUs, and as per usual, the 13” Pro gets 28 watt CPUs that are faster than Ultrabook 15 watt CPUs. It has Intel Iris 6100 graphics for a boost over last year’s model and the SSD storage is twice as fast. The Mac starts at $1,299 for the 2.7GHz Core i5-5257U with 8 gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of storage. All models have dual band WiFi 802.11AC, Bluetooth 4.0 and a backlit keyboard.
