Soldering a TQFP 64-pin SMT package.
Video of me hand-soldering a 64-pin TQFP package. I'm using a stereo microscope to solder, and the camera is on the opposite side of the PCB from me. Normally I don't solder quite this way, and the lighting is better, but I wanted to try recording the process, so it got a little strange angle-wise.

QFP and QFN to DIP for Breadboarding
This product is an QFP and QFN to DIP adapter with a twist. These have our patented "ez" technology which means that soldering the surface mount component is simple, and as with all of our "ez" boards, we are the only company with a patented solution for easily soldering surface mount parts. This board supports both QFP and QFN packages. This board also includes room for 0805 SMT discrete components such as a bypass capacitor and pads for easy access to a ground. Additionally a large plated hole in the center of the device area, allows for the addition of solder to utilize ground pads on the bottom of the device.

SMD Soldering of 32-LQFP and 0603 Packages
Being able to solder surface mount components really expands upon the devices you can pick from when designing something. Most of the newer and more interesting components are only available as surface mount. This is a video showing how I solder surface mount components. First I solder a 32-LQFP (Low Profile Quad Flat Pack, 32 pin) package (STM8S103K3) and then two 0603 capacitors. This is not pro-level stuff, but a little technique for hobby use. The STM chip has a relatively large 0.8mm pin spacing center-to-center. I've also used this technique with 0.65mm packages. I haven't tried smaller, but fully expect it to work. The board is a prototype of my Atari Joystick module I designed for the Netduino Go. Music: 1. Cooperation Demo (Peter W RMX) by Peter W and Kim Christensen (Future Freak) 2. Ocean Loader 2 by Mordi (Martin Galway) Both from remix.kwed.org I am not a pro. If you're looking for pro-level stuff, there are some great trainers with info here on YouTube. One I highly recommend (the one whose videos showed me this technique) : www.youtube.com I use the same iron and soldering station he does, although you have many options available here. The tape is Kapton high-temp tape, 0.5", 2,5mil The iron tip I used for the discrete components is just a very narrow screwdriver-style tip. It's the T15-D12 1.2mm tip. The large flat tip is the Hakko T15-CF3 Beveled 3MM 60 Degree tip. A similar tip for FX-888 users is the T18-C3 45 degree 3MM tip. The Iron is the FM-2027 ...

One Square Inch of Goodness
Read more at: thecustomgeek.com So a while ago I discovered that I needed a microcontroller in a really tight space. I tried an ATmega328P PU (DIP package), but try as I may, It would not fit. The answer? The ATmega328P AU (TQFP) this is a much smaller package, and for the added bonus, it has 2 extra ADC's. This a great little board to squeeze in various projects, and opens the door to some very cool stuff I have coming up. Some of you might remember I put this board in a project I did a while ago when space was very limited. It's just a handy little board to have on hand. :) Links to files are on my site.

TQFP Replacement
Replacement of TQFP Atmel AVR ATmega16 on a jtagICE PCB. Some of the pads had been munted in the removal but with only one minor re wiring this device is now working better than ever. Yet another good example of what not to do.
