I received this unit and a two-pack of Type-C cables (Tronsmart [2 Pack] USB 2.0 Type C (USB-C) Cable for ChromeBook Pixel, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and More (3.3 Feet, 1 x Black,1 x White)) from GeekBuying for review.
I've been looking for a USB Type-C wall charger for awhile, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw this Tronsmart wall charger arrive on Amazon. To test, I plugged in my Huawei Nexus 6P with approximately 7% battery remaining. I tested the charger with both Tronsmart Type-C cables and the Google OEM Type-C cable that came with my phone. I saw no noticeable performance increase or decrease when switching the Tronsmart cables and my OEM cable/wall charger. I tested the USB Type-A port with a Samsung Galaxy S6 and achieved normal (non-QC 2.0) charge speeds.
Pros:
- Supports USB Type-C Fast Charging on Nexus 5X/6P (achieved ~2700-2900 mA current, which is just below the advertised 3A spec). Lock screen displayed "Charging rapidly".
- Sturdy, high-quality hard plastic casing, with foldout power prongs (makes travelling safer for other devices it's packed with).
- Adapter remained relatively cool during entire charge cycle (~7% to 100%).
Cons:
- USB A port does not support Qualcomm QC 2.0.
- The tiny green LED on the side is very bright - lights up the wall in a dark room.
- When plugged into a power strip, the direction of the power prongs make it take up/cover two outlet spaces.
- No USB Type-C cable included.
Overall, I would recommend this wall charger. While the Google OEM Type-C charger is currently $25 and comes with an attached Type-C cable, this charger is slightly more versatile as the cable is removable and can be swapped out should a cable become damaged or fails. Five Stars.

Verified Purchase
So what is there to say about a wall charger? Well, I would want to know things like: Does it charge devices properly? Does it have Quick Charge support? Does it get hot? Will it fit in my car? Does it work with Google’s new Nexus phones? Let’s answer those questions individually. Also, I was sent this product sample for testing and my honest review.
1) Does it quick charge the new Nexus phones?
You bet. I plugged in my Nexus 6P and received rapid charging in the USB Type C port. The Nexus 5X and 6P need a 5V/3A current and this car charger supplies exactly that. In a single charge of my Nexus 6P that started at 5% when plugged in, it took 1 hour to get up to 75% and another 34 minutes to reach 100% for a total of 1 hour 34 minutes charging time. Peak charging rates were measured through Ampere and topped for me at 2980mA (see pictures) during two different charging cycles which is amazingly close to Google’s own OEM wall charger rate (3000 mA).
I also tested the USB A (rectangular) port on the charger and can confirm that you get the "charging" message on your lock screen (which is what you are supposed to see) when using a spec compliant cable.
2) Does it charge properly? Yes, it does charge properly. What I mean by that is I didn’t notice my Nexus 6P getting overly hot, nor has the charger done any damage to them after a number of cycles. It just charges them like it should. The Tronsmart USB Type C to Type C cables I used are spec compliant. The USB Type C to Type A cable I used was spec compliant as well.
The advantage of this wall charger over the competition is it (instead of only one) can output the max amount of power your devices draw AT THE SAME TIME.Read more ›
