Unboxing and quick test of my new Polk Audio TSi100 Bookshelf Speakers.

Take a trip back to 1992 and see this technologically advanced automotive subwoofer up close and personal. The "C4" was a radical design at the time integrating two pairs of 6x9 subwoofers in a push-pull isobaric design. The outer two chambers are vented with a 3" x 5" port, while the center chamber is sealed. The 6x9" subwoofers have the effective piston area of 8", but the oval shape makes for a more compact enclosure.
See my overview of the Polk C4 here. Not only do I show the exterior, but I also take off the bottom panel to show how this beauty works. I also take some time to give sound demos of the C4. It is EXTREMELY difficult to capture the quality through inexpensive microphones, so I used a high-quality Sony camera mounted mic for this demo. I recommend using headphones or high-quality speakers to get the full effect...
As for the request for donations, this is obviously completely voluntary. I create content for all to enjoy, but spend LOTS on my website hosting, photo/video storage, sound/video equipment, old school gear to review, test equipment for my lab, etc. I'm hoping to be able to continue making videos and sharing them with everyone, but surely there are some folks out there who can spare a few bucks to help me continue my operation?

Watching on your phone? Please put on headphones. You'll hear the difference much better. Comparing the sound quality of the Polk Audio Hampden vs the Polk Audio Woodbourne. Both were playing through Spotify Extreme at 320 kbps, and were connected through the USB connectors, so the sound was processed through each unit's internal DSP, rather than the laptop / iPad. The Hampden is only capable of doing this with laptops, the woodbourne can also do it from an iOS device. I tried swapping devices, and using other input methods (AUX, Bluetooth, etc.) And while the quality went up / down on each individual device, the difference between the two devices was still staggering. Take a trip back to 1992 and see this technologically advanced automotive subwoofer up close and personal. The "C4" was a radical design at the time integrating two pairs of 6x9 subwoofers in a push-pull isobaric design. The outer two chambers are vented with a 3" x 5" port, while the center chamber is sealed. The 6x9" subwoofers have the effective piston area of 8", but the oval shape makes for a more compact enclosure.
See my overview of the Polk C4 here. Not only do I show the exterior, but I also take off the bottom panel to show how this beauty works. I also take some time to give sound demos of the C4. It is EXTREMELY difficult to capture the quality through inexpensive microphones, so I used a high-quality Sony camera mounted mic for this demo. I recommend using headphones or high-quality speakers to get the full effect...
As for the request for donations, this is obviously completely voluntary. I create content for all to enjoy, but spend LOTS on my website hosting, photo/video storage, sound/video equipment, old school gear to review, test equipment for my lab, etc. I'm hoping to be able to continue making videos and sharing them with everyone, but surely there are some folks out there who can spare a few bucks to help me continue my operation?

Comparing the sound quality of the Polk Audio Hampden vs the Polk Audio Woodbourne. Both were playing through Spotify Extreme at 320 kbps, and were connected through the USB connectors, so the sound was processed through each unit's internal DSP, rather than the laptop / iPad. The Hampden is only capable of doing this with laptops, the woodbourne can also do it from an iOS device.
I tried swapping devices, and using other input methods (AUX, Bluetooth, etc.) And while the quality went up / down on each individual device, the difference between the two devices was still staggering.
The difference may seem minimal in the video, but it was an order of magnitude more apparent in person. (Of course my tiny iPhone microphone doesn't do either sound justice. But hopefully it helps to compare the sound of the two devices.)

Plenty of & crossover features (Hi, Lo & Bandpass) in a compact package. After cranking it up for about an hour I placed my hand on the and it was still cool to the touch. With the cramped gear mounting space being at a premium in my truck this small and running temperature are a real plus. I recommend this without hesitation. I bought 2 pairs of these for my 1996 Jeep XJ roughly 2 months ago, so they have had plenty of break-in time. Installation was a snap. But i must admit, I'am anything happy with their sound quality. an at heart. I own several of studio monitors, so I know what good is. I had some apprehension before buying all the positive reviews changed my mind. I wish I would have listened to that little voice in my head telling me not to They are of the flattest sounding car I have heard. Keep in I installed 4 of them, yet they do fill my with even at high volume. They extremely directional, and just boring. trying to figure out how to add tweeters to the vehicle to make up for their lack of I live without bass, as I didn't expect to produce much. things like they are all mid-range. Thats all really hearing of midrange, and gonna cut I haven't a set of and I think they are one of the most overrated brands on the planet. Never again.......

I recently bought these to upgrade 10 year old Onkyo wood and a center. While the Onkyo's were great and still are, I wanted a modern and sleeker look. just as good for the price. The died after one use, but shipped a replacement set out within a few days (Great customer service obviously...) beat the performance at this

This is an excellent much better than its predecessor along with others non branded with much higher price range ,Bass is very tight and hit realy low,u actually feel the punch even in very volume when set to50....it sounded great....Its high,Mid and all with details and imaging..............................
Also by himself looks beautifull and it worth the I paid for.

They are excellent. Anyone that says they don't have enough bass is mistaken. If have the power in receiver all need. I even use my subwoofer for music. Not needed. The grille I had no problem off with a heavy paper clip. They are tight but want them falling with the vibration they create.

I just received these 2 days ago and I was blown away by the sound. I was expecting good but got great for the price. It sounded with any kind of material, I threw Jazz, Rock, Classical, even some metal and rap at it and it performed beautifully. I run it with an Onkyo SR 603 amp, I think it is a little underpowered for I use for pure stereo as I have a separate home theater setup.

his week we thank Ray and Lee for their support with a special thanks to Dipan for his donation. Thanks guys! In the news: Comic Con 2015 (LINK) and an interesting bookshelf shootout (LINK). Tom (a listener) is looking to replace his Snell speakers and needs some advice (LINK, LINK, LINK, and LINK), Jordan is thinking of a $60 sub and wants our opinion (LINK), and Ashley has some questions on satellite speakers and his Sony PS 3D monitor (LINK). Everett has questions about his TV settings and a sub setting on his Denon AVR-X4000, Diego is on the prowl for a new receiver (this LINK will surprise roughly no one) and needs some speaker placement advice, and Bobby wants to know if there are any 4K UHD TVs that will make regular DVDs look good. Roch would simply like to know our favorite ever 2-channel setup that we’ve heard so far in our lives, Ted (the creator of our Outro music!) would like to know our opinions on coaxial/concentric-driver speakers, and Jason wanted to confirm that Monoprice HDMI switches can work perfectly well with Harmony Remotes (LINK) but wonders why his “Standard Speed” HDMI cables didn’t work properly. Dipan has a pair of Revel Ultima2 Salon2 speakers and wants to know if he can use them for 2-channel in his custom theater, John found a pair of Martin Logan SL3 speakers at a good price (LINK) and wants to know if he should buy, and Lee is looking for a screen for his new Epson 3500 projector. Michael just got a Power Sound Audio XV15 subwoofer and wants to know if he should continue to use his Polk Audio PSW-505 subwoofer, Scott is interested in the Intel NUC that Tom just built as he needs a new HTPC (LINK), and Bruce disagrees with us about some of the things we’ve said about high resolution audio.

According to a report in Washington Times, Thomas Uzhunnalil, an Indian priest who was kidnapped in Yemen in March was crucified by ISIS on Good Friday. His execution was done in the same method that Romans were believed to use on Jesus on Good Friday ... Jeffrey Dean Morgan is joining the cast as the fan favorite from the comics who has been teased throughout season six. His entrance into the comics is a pretty iconic scene in itself ... Wow. A pitbull was raped and murdered in Thuston County, Washington last week. The animal was found hanging from a tree, with its feet just out of reach of the ground, on Department of Natural Resources land. A mountain biker came across the macabre scene while cycling through the property. The pitbull had clearly died of asphyxiation from whatever contraption its killer had constructed, reported Seattle Times ... This is horrific.”....
