Like coral, Giant Clams also have a symbiotic relationship with single-celled algae - zooxanthellae - from which it gets nutrition. By day, the clam opens its shell and extends its mantle tissue so that the algae receive the sunlight they need to photosynthesize. This stimulates the clams to grow massive calcium carbonate shells. The mantle's edges are packed with symbiotic zooxanthellae that presumably utilize carbon dioxide, phosphates, and nitrates supplied by the clam.

A garden snail (Cornu aspersum) from the Mediterranean area is presented as it would appear on a human theater stage. Thus the play with light and shadows was as important for me as to get, using a macro objective and a microscope, as close as possible to that fascinating mollusc. In the shining-through-light, internal structures, as e.g. movements of the feeding organ (radula = "tongue"), can be well observed.
C. aspersum is a mollusc and member of the clade Gastropoda. Cephalopoda and Gastropoda together form a reoresent sister groups. They obviously are descendants of a common stem species and share the possession of shells. All molluscan shells are the result of ectodermal secretions (outer layer of the embryo).
Following the internal phylogeny of Gastropods, it must be stated that the garden snail C. aspersum represents the land snails (Stylommatophora). All members of land snails reproduce as hermaphrodites.
Gastropoda phylogenetically are for example characterized by an asymmetric body construction (= apomorphy). Within the Gastropoda, lungs evolved in the stem species of the Pulmonata. These respiratory organs are formed by a modified mantle cavity. This structure, which is named mantle in molluscs, is a specialized tissue-layer, covering the internal organs, which in Bivalvia and Gastropoda produces the shells.
The land-lung-snails (Stylommatophora) evolved as apomorphies two pairs of retractile tentacles at the front part (=head) of the muscular foot. The endings of the first pair of tentacles bear the eyes.

Are you ready to discover one of the greatest mysteries of the ocean yet?
The number of different species of giant squid have been debated, but recent genetic research shows that only one species existed.
The colossal squid is the second largest of molluscs and one of the largest of all extant invertebrates. It can only be reached by the giant squid, colossal squid, which can have a mantle almost double the time. Some extinct mollusks, such as the Cretaceous vampyromorphida Tusoteuthis, coleoid Tusoteuthis Cretaceous, and the Ordovician nautiloid Cameroceras may have grown larger.

Kings Of Comouflage - Animal Documentary Films
Cuttlefish are marine animals of the order Sepiida. They belong to the class Cephalopoda, which also includes squid, octopodes, and nautiluses. Cuttlefish have a unique internal shell, the cuttlebone. Despite their name, cuttlefish are not fish but molluscs.
Cuttlefish have large, W-shaped pupils, eight arms, and two tentacles furnished with denticulated suckers, with which they secure their prey. They generally range in size from 15 to 25 cm (5.9 to 9.8 in), with the largest species, Sepia apama, reaching 50 cm (20 in) in mantle length and over 10.5 kg (23 lb) in mass.
Cuttlefish eat small molluscs, crabs, shrimp, fish, octopodes, worms, and other cuttlefish. Their predators include dolphins, sharks, fish, seals, seabirds, and other cuttlefish. The average life expectancy of a cuttlefish is about one to two years. Recent studies indicate cuttlefish are among the most intelligent invertebrates. Cuttlefish also have one of the largest brain-to-body size ratios of all invertebrates.

The 'cuttle' in 'cuttlefish' comes from the Old English word cudele, meaning 'cuttlefish', which may be cognate with the Old Norse koddi ('cushion') and the Middle Low German küdel ('pouch').[citation needed] The Greco-Roman world valued the cephalopod as a source of the unique brown pigment the creature releases from its siphon when it is alarmed. The word for it in both Greek and Latin, sepia, is now used to refer to a brown pigment in English.

Wildlife can be found in all ecosystems. Deserts, forests, rain forests, plains, grasslands, and other areas including the most developed urban sites, all have distinct forms of wildlife. While the term in popular culture usually refers to animals that are untouched by human factors, most scientists agree that much wildlife is affected by human activities.
Animals are multicellular, eukaryotic organisms of the kingdom Animalia (also called Metazoa). All animals are motile, meaning they can move spontaneously and independently, at some point in their lives. Their body plan eventually becomes fixed as they develop, although some undergo a process of metamorphosis later on in their lives. All animals are heterotrophs: they must ingest other organisms or their products for sustenance.
Most known animal phyla appeared in the fossil record as marine species during the Cambrian explosion, about 542 million years ago. Animals are divided into various sub-groups, some of which are: vertebrates (birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish); molluscs (clams, oysters, octopuses, squid, snails); arthropods (millipedes, centipedes, insects, spiders, scorpions, crabs, lobsters, shrimp); annelids (earthworms, leeches); sponges; and jellyfish.
