Girls (Beastie Boys song)

"Girls" is a song by American hip hop group the Beastie Boys, released in 1987 as well as the music video as the seventh and final single from their debut album Licensed to Ill. Like "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)", this song was never performed live and it is one of the few songs on the album that are not in the vein of their standard rap songs.

Song structure and lyrics

The song is the shortest on the album, lasting just over 2 minutes long. The song's instrumental is relatively simple, consisting of a drum beat being played over a vibraphone loop, with occasional pauses. The song contains many similarities to the song "Shout" by The Isley Brothers.

Lyrically, the song talks about the narrator (Ad-Rock)'s desire for women. He recalls a experience from two years before with a woman who had an interest in the narrator's band mate MCA. MCA did not share her feelings and permitted the narrator to pursue her romantically. Ad-Rock takes the woman for a walk near a body of water and asks for her hand. The woman rejects his proposal. She moves to a far away location but in the present day the narrator sees her back in town showing interest in his other band mate, Mike D.

Girls (N-Dubz song)

"Girls" is a song by British hip hop group N-Dubz. It is the third overall single taken from their third studio album, Love.Live.Life. The single was released as a digital download on 12 December 2010. The song was produced by Jim Jonsin and written by Tulisa, Dappy and Fazer, Jim Jonsin, Danny Morris, and Zachary Steiner Anderson. The single debuted on the UK Singles Chart on 5 December 2010, peaking at #23, based entirely on downloads from the album.

Music video

The music video premiered on T4 on 5 December 2010. The video begins with Dappy sitting on a throne, girls queue up two by two to kiss him. We see the group singing in front of lights throughout the video. The screen cuts to Dappy with a girl with snow falling on them. After the first chorus, Tulisa is seen playing poker with a group of men, she wins the game and kisses the female dealer, who is in fact Lady Ny, a fellow singer and one of Tulisa's best friends. Fazer is then seen in front of the same backdrop as the single cover, four screens with women dancing behind them. Skepta makes a cameo in the video wearing a Boy Better Know chain. The clean version has alternate shots for when the profanity words are edited out.

Girls (Tina Turner song)

"Girls" is a song by recording artist Tina Turner, from her 1986 album Break Every Rule. It was written by David Bowie and Erdal Kizilcay and produced by Terry Britten. Phil Collins plays drums on the recording. Upon its single released, it became a top 20 hit on the Dutch Singles Chart.

Bowie later recorded two different versions of the song himself during the Never Let Me Down sessions, one with vocals in English and another with vocals in Japanese. Both versions appeared as B-sides for different formats of the "Time Will Crawl" single in 1987.

Harmony

In music, harmony is the use of simultaneous pitches (tones, notes), or chords. The study of harmony involves chords and their construction and chord progressions and the principles of connection that govern them. Harmony is often said to refer to the "vertical" aspect of music, as distinguished from melodic line, or the "horizontal" aspect.Counterpoint, which refers to the interweaving of melodic lines, and polyphony, which refers to the relationship of separate independent voices, are thus sometimes distinguished from harmony.

In popular and jazz harmony, chords are named by their root plus various terms and characters indicating their qualities. A tension is an additional chord member that creates a relatively dissonant interval in relation to the bass. In simple words, that occurs when there is a balance between "tense" and "relaxed" moments.

Harmony (Serena Ryder album)

Harmony is the sixth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Serena Ryder. The album was released on November 27, 2012 in Canada, and on August 27, 2013 in the USA. A French edition featuring bilingual versions of two songs was released for the Quebec market on September 24, 2013. It received three Juno Award Nominations in 2013, winning Adult Alternative Album with five more (pending) nominations the following year including Album of the Year.

Commercial performance

The album was certified gold by Music Canada on February 7, 2013, shipping 40,000 copies. The album attained platinum certification in July 2013.

In 2013, the album sold 74,000 copies in Canada.

Singles

The lead single, titled "Stompa", was released on September 27, 2012, in Canada, and then on February 26, 2013 to the U.S. The song peaked at #8 on the Canadian Hot 100, after spending 16 weeks on the chart. The second Canadian single, titled "What I Wouldn't Do", was released in early November 2012, and has reached #8 on the Canadian Hot 100. The song "For You" "reinterprets" Screamin' Jay Hawkins' well-known "I Put a Spell on You" and shares a songwriting credit with his estate.

300 win club

In Major League Baseball, the 300 win club is the group of pitchers who have won 300 or more games. Twenty-four pitchers have reached this milestone. Early in the history of professional baseball, many of the rules favored the pitcher over the batter; the distance pitchers threw to home plate was shorter than today, and pitchers were able to use foreign substances to alter the direction of the ball. The first player to win 300 games was Pud Galvin in 1888. Seven pitchers recorded all or the majority of their career wins in the 19th century: Galvin, Cy Young, Kid Nichols, Tim Keefe, John Clarkson, Charley Radbourn, and Mickey Welch. Four more pitchers joined the club in the first quarter of the 20th century: Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson, Eddie Plank, and Grover Cleveland Alexander. Young is the all-time leader in wins with 511, a mark that is considered unbreakable. If a modern-day pitcher won 20 games per season for 25 seasons, he would still be 11 games short of Young's mark.
