A friend of mine wanted to go fishing with her girlfriends so my buddy Hal and I took 6 women and another guy out to live bait drift fish in Miami Florida. 20 minutes into the trip we landed two nice bontia and two of the woman started to sick. We decided to head in and Hal suggested we troll a lure back since it was 3 to 4 foot seas and we had to take it slow. I went through my lures and selected two trolling lures one being a Rapala X-Rap Magnum 15 and tied it on. I didn't even use a wire leader just straight to a 15 foot Seagar 50lb floro leader to 20lb mono by Momoi using my new Shimano Thunnus CI4 12000 with a Tallus Blue Water Series 80-100lb rod. Within just a few minutes the lure got a bite and 30 minutes later we landed a 46 Pound King Mackerel aka Smoker. It was my first time fishing Miami and I'm hooked! It was a day to remember.

This full length fishing episode shows the crew of Reel Hazardous fishing in a Kingfish tournament out of Northeast Florida known as the Kingbuster. While fishing offshore the crew also catches some sharks and Barracuda trying to get their big Kingfish. They also have fun telling stories when the fishing is slow.
We start the day by catching Menhaden for bait. We also bring Ribbonfish and Blue Runners (Hardtails) to troll with as well. We then hit a few spots offshore trying to find a "smoker" King!

Had a good time fishing on the Gulf State Park Pier, had a lot of chances but its really tough landing these fish with everything that could go wrong. Got 2 fish on the deck with a shark taking part of one.
Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are good places to catch fish while on vacation, just takes some practice on figuring them out.

We had an outstanding offshore trip. We caught a Total of 5 King Mackerel and 1 baby dorado. We had a blast trolling for these big kings around oil rigs offshore 13 miles in Galveston, TX. We trolled Dead Ribbonfish all around the rigs.

King mackerel
The king mackerel or kingfish (Scomberomorus cavalla) is a migratory species of mackerel of the western Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. It is an important species to both the commercial and recreational fishing industries.
Description
The king mackerel is a medium-sized fish, typically encountered from five to 14 kg (30 lb), but is known to exceed 40 kg (90 lb). The entire body is covered with very small, hardly visible, loosely attached scales. The first (spiny) dorsal fin is entirely colorless and is normally folded back into a body groove, as are the pelvic fins. The lateral line starts high on the shoulder, dips abruptly at mid-body and then continues as a wavy horizontal line to the tail. Coloration is olive on the back, fading to silver with a rosy iridescence on the sides, fading to white on the belly. Fish under 5 kg (10 lb) show yellowish-brown spots on the flanks, somewhat smaller than the spots of the Atlantic Spanish mackerel, Scomberomorus maculatus. Its cutting-edged teeth are large, uniform, closely spaced and flattened from side to side. These teeth look very similar to those of the bluefish, Pomatomus saltatrix.

A friend of mine wanted to go fishing with her girlfriends so my buddy Hal and I took 6 women and another guy out to live bait drift fish in Miami Florida. 20 minutes into the trip we landed two nice bontia and two of the woman started to sick. We decided to head in and Hal suggested we troll a lure back since it was 3 to 4 foot seas and we had to take it slow. I went through my lures and selected two trolling lures one being a Rapala X-Rap Magnum 15 and tied it on. I didn't even use a wire leader just straight to a 15 foot Seagar 50lb floro leader to 20lb mono by Momoi using my new Shimano Thunnus CI4 12000 with a Tallus Blue Water Series 80-100lb rod. Within just a few minutes the lure got a bite and 30 minutes later we landed a 46 Pound King Mackerel aka Smoker. It was my first time fishing Miami and I'm hooked! It was a day to remember.
