King Kong (2005 film)

King Kong is a 2005 epic monster film co-written, produced, and directed by Peter Jackson. A remake of the 1933 film of the same name, the film stars Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody, and, through motion capture, Andy Serkis as the title character. Set in 1933, King Kong tells the story of an overly ambitious filmmaker who coerces his cast and hired ship crew to travel to the mysterious Skull Island. There they encounter Kong, a legendary giant gorilla, whom they capture and display in New York City, with tragic results.

The film's budget climbed from an initial US$150 million to a then-record-breaking $207 million. It was released on December 14, 2005 in Germany and on December 16 in the United States, and made an opening of $50.1 million. While it performed lower than expected, King Kong made domestic and worldwide grosses that eventually added up to $550 million, becoming the fourth-highest grossing film in Universal Pictures history. It also generated $100 million in DVD sales upon its home video release. The film garnered generally positive reviews from critics and appeared on several "top ten" lists for 2005, though some reviewers criticized it for its three-hour running time. It won three Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects.

Preston (UK Parliament constituency)

Preston is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2000 by Mark Hendrick, a member of the Labour Party and of the Co-operative Party.

History

The seat was created for the Model Parliament and sent members until at least 1331 then the lack of records until a new (possibly confirmatory) grant of two members to Westminster followed. From 1529 unusually extending beyond the 19th century until 1950 the seat had two-member representation. Party divisions have tended to run stronger since 1931 before which two different parties' candidates frequently came first and second at elections under the bloc vote system.

In 1929 recently elected Liberal, Sir William Jowitt decided to join the Labour Party and called for a by-election (which implies a single vacancy) to support this change of party which he won to take up for two years the position of Attorney General of England and Wales as part of the Government. He became the highest judge during the Attlee Ministry, the Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain and Speaker of the House of Lords under a then hereditary-dominated House leading to a Conservative majority. Consequently, he was selected to be elevated to a peerage as 1st Earl Jowitt. With no sons was to be the last Earl and wrote a Dictionary of English Law.

Preston (singer)

Samuel Dylan Murray Preston (born 16 January 1982) more commonly known as Preston, is an English singer, who is the lead singer of The Ordinary Boys. He also appeared in the reality television show Celebrity Big Brother in 2006, in which he finished fourth. After The Ordinary Boys split in 2008, he embarked on a songwriting career. In 2013 he officially reunited The Ordinary Boys and in 2015 they released their self-titled comeback album.

Early life

Samuel Preston was born in Worthing, West Sussex. He was educated at Sompting Abbotts public School and Bishop Luffa School. He is son to Anthony and Miranda Preston (born in Philadelphia), and brother to Alex and Lucy Preston. His grandfather is the Princeton University English professor Samuel Hynes. His brother, Alex Preston, is a novelist. In his teenage years Preston lived in Philadelphia with his Mother's side of the family.

Music career

Preston became the lead singer of Worthing-based pop group, The Ordinary Boys. They had a string of top-ten hits in the UK Singles Chart. Their most famous song, "Boys Will Be Boys", featured in the 2007 film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Wait (Beatles song)

"Wait" is a song recorded by the Beatles, from their 1965 album Rubber Soul. The songwriting credit is Lennon–McCartney, and the song is usually said to be a joint effort between the two, although in the 1997 book, Many Years from Now, McCartney recalls it as entirely his. This is supported by a 1970 interview with John Lennon by Ray Connolly. John could not remember writing it. "That must be one of Paul's," he said. The middle eight section is similar to Autumn Leaves (1945 song) (one example being the line "I know that you" matches "old winter's song" from Autumn Leaves).

Origin and recording

The song was originally recorded for Help! in June 1965 but did not make the final pressing. When Rubber Soul fell one song short for a Christmas release, "Wait" was brought back. Overdubs were added to the initial recording so it would blend in better with the other, more recent songs on Rubber Soul.

The lyrics, describing the singer's anxieties about his relationship with his girlfriend while he is away, are thematically similar to several other Lennon–McCartney songs, such as "When I Get Home" and "Things We Said Today," written during the period of 1964 and 1965. The vocals on the verse are shared between Lennon and McCartney, and McCartney sings the two middle eight sections. Instrumentally, the most memorable feature of "Wait" is George Harrison's tone pedal guitar.

Wait (Wang Chung song)

"Wait" is a single by Wang Chung, released as the fourth and final single from their 1984 album, Points on the Curve. The single reached #87 on the UK Singles Chart. Aside from the early singles released as Huang Chung, "Wait" was the only single by Wang Chung that failed to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. However, it peaked at #17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.

No music video was shot for "Wait".

Wait is also the only Wang Chung song to appear on two different non-compilation albums. Wait originally appeared on Points on the Curve, but was used again in the To Live and Die in L.A. soundtrack when director William Friedkin liked the song so much, he wanted to incorporate it into his 1985 thriller, To Live and Die in L.A. "Wait" appears during the end credits of the film.

Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is the sixth studio album by French electronic band M83. The double album was released on 18 October 2011 by Naïve Records in France and Mute Records in the United States. The album was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, mixed by Tony Hoffer and has received generally positive reviews. In addition, it debuted at number fifteen on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 21,000 copies, becoming M83's highest-charting album to date. The album was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

The album was recognized as one of The 100 Best Albums of the Decade So Far by Pitchfork Media in August 2014.

Production

Background and recording

Prior to recording Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, Anthony Gonzalez had moved from his native France to Los Angeles. Describing the move in an interview, Gonzalez said: "Having spent 29 years of my life in France, I moved to California a year and a half before the making of this album and I was excited and inspired by so many different things: by the landscape, by the way of life, by live shows, by movies, by the road trips I took alone... I was feeling alive again and this is, I feel, something that you can hear on the album" Gonzalez's tour with The Killers, Depeche Mode and Kings of Leon, in addition to his road trips to Joshua Tree National Park also heavily influenced the album. Gonzalez cited the ambitiousness of albums such as Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness as the reason he made Hurry Up, We're Dreaming a double album. In addition, he described the two discs as brother and sister, with each track having a sibling on the other disc. The album was recorded in Los Angeles at Sunset Studio and The Sound Factory. Because of budget constraints and union issues, the string and brass players who contributed to the album were not paid and were credited with pseudonyms.
