PERMANENT DAMAGE- s/t 7″EP (Reactor Records, Australia, 1985)

permanentdamage_front.jpgpermanentdamage_back.jpgPERMANENT DAMAGE came from Victoria, Australia and this was their debut. An LP followed a year later or so, entitled “End of Innocence”, but this here is it. Angry metalfree HC with some kind of an upspeed oi-feel to it, but it works! Recorded in 1984, this was very clean and polished for the time and it still kicks, I think. And the poster insert live shot is amazing, I think.
This goes out to KC. Enjoy.

I’ve been wanting to hear more from these guys. I bought a 7″ comp. called Single Ticket To Paradise ‘The Mini-Sampler you’ll die to play frisbee with_ ” like four years ago with them on it doing “Wasted Dreams” That song reminds me of Agent Orange. The other bands on that comp. are Powerage, Human Beings, T.A.S.K., Cancerous Growth, Cheetah Chrome Mother Fuckers, and Rattus. This comp. introduced me to C.C.M. too.

I used to see these guys as they came to Sydney several times to play. They were cool guys and really friendly. There was a nice scene at the time with these guys and Vicious Circle being the main Melbourne bands coming north. These guys put on great shows and we were pretty impressed at the time with how tight they were. Generally Melbourne was ahead of Sydney in terms of getting into the real hardcore as Sydney for the most part was really still into the English around at the time – which was mostly not HC but alot of skin/Oi/etc type of stuff – apart from the northern beaches who, like me, were right into all the fantastic HC coming out.

I was surprised and pleased to come across this web site. Thanks to Ando, Cesar, Jonbagz, seAoxen for your comments. I agree those were great times with awesome bands creating high-energy punk with messages that are as important today. I was heavily influenced by Discharge, Depression and DK. As a band we worked hard to create a tight sound that was our own. At 45 years I still enjoy cranking up the volume for ‘Big Fat Liar’ to hear Matthew’s guitar solo and Izzy’s solid bass playing. Special tribute to Jonbagz’s father for his exceptional artwork for the EP and his dedication to live music.

Wow! what a great memory this site has given me. It has been quite a few years since I listened to these tracks – but they still sound good. They were great days and I will always be proud of the band and how were were able to craft a very unique sound. I have a young nephew in Perth who is into the old HC. I am approaching 50 years of age and I still enjoy listening to quality HC.
    Thanks for the memory!

  10. Ok I know I talk allot. Before I leave.. I never stopped drumming. After Leaving Depression And Permanent Damage. I formed a new band called Rue Morgue with Les from Vicious Circle and later we asked Paul Vicious Circle to sing for us. Got a bass player. Rue Morgue released 2 CD’s that not many know about. Very different. Anyone Interested in hearing them or having a copy of them. Let me know. No cost involved. I also have a Rue Morgue Live Video recorded at the Great Britain Hotel Fitzroy if anyone would like. Ok I am Gone. Peace. Out.
