Robotix

Robotix is a 1985 animated series based on the Milton Bradley toy of the same name. The original toy was of the construction type, similar to the Erector Set and K'Nex, that included motors, wheels, and pincers.

The series follows the conflict between the peaceful Protectons and the warmongering Terrakors on the alien world of Skalorr, and a group of humans who get caught up in the conflict. It was produced by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions, and was animated in Japan by Toei Animation, which also animated other cartoons featured on Super Sunday.

Unlike most animated shows, Robotix was not a 22-minute cartoon, but was rather a series of fifteen six-minute shorts that aired as part of the Super Sunday half-hour with other animated shows, including Jem and the Holograms, Inhumanoids and Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines. While Jem and Inhumanoids had enough success to be turned into full-fledged series, Robotix was cancelled after its debut season.

Marvel Comics also produced a single-issue comic book in February 1986, which roughly followed the storyline of the first three episodes of the series.

Robotix (toys)

Robotix is a line of toy motorized modular construction sets, used to construct robots, robotic vehicles, and machines, and often including action figures. Robotix toys were first marketed by the Milton Bradley Company (MB) from 1984 until 1986. The 1985 cartoon series Robotix was based on these toys. During the 1990s and early 2000s, Robotix toys were sold by RC2 Corporation under its Learning Curve brand. Learning Curve changed the colors of the original MB toys from mostly black and white to bright colors, introduced new parts, and expanded the range of playsets.

As of 2014, Robotix toys are sold by Robotics and Things, based in Simi Valley, California, which also offers STEM enrichment programs for children.

Parts

Robotix parts, despite their route creation being centered in the United States, use the metric system of measurement for their pieces. For example, they sell three arm pieces: Arm (50mm), Arm (75mm), and Arm (100mm). These parts connect using a Male/Female attachment system, where each connection is in the shape of an octagon. The toy was high quality for the time, featuring a good figure, heavy plastics and rounded corners.

Robotix (competition)

Robotix is an annual robotics and programming event that is organised by the Technology Robotix Society at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur). It is held during Kshitij, the institute's annual techno-management festival. Participation is open to college students. The event gives contestants an opportunity to showcase their talents in the fields of mechanical robotics, autonomous robotics and programming.

History

Robotix started in 2001 as an in-house event for the students of IIT Kharagpur. Kunal Sinha, Saurabh Prasad and Varun Rai created the event for IDEON, the school's techno-management festival. The inaugural event hosted eight teams. In 2003, the IDEON festival was reorganized and renamed to Kshitij. Robotix is now organized under Kshitij.

Event participation has increased over the years: Robotix 2006 had 220 teams, Robotix 2007 had 546 teams, and Robotix 2008 had over 1000 teams.

Robotix celebrated its tenth edition in 2010 with an array of challenging problem statements. Robotix 2011 conducted a water surface event, R.A.F.T., in which over 250 teams participated.

Lynn (MBTA station)

Lynn (signed as Central Square - Lynn) is a passenger rail station on the MBTA Commuter Rail Newburyport/Rockport Line in downtown Lynn, Massachusetts, located 11.5 route miles from North Station. The station consists of a single center island platform serving the two station tracks on an elevated grade that runs through the downtown area of Lynn. A large parking garage is integrated into the station structure. The present station, built in 1992, is the latest in a series of depots built on approximately the same Central Square site since 1838. A number of other stations have also been located on several different rail lines in Lynn.

Lynn is also a major bus transfer point serving 12 MBTA Bus routes in the North Shore region, including routes leading to Salem, Marblehead, Wonderland, and the Liberty Tree Mall as well as downtown Boston.

History

Early history

After the railroads from Boston to Lowell, Worcester, and Providence were chartered in 1830 and 1831, railroads to other surrounding cities including Newburyport and Portsmouth were proposed. Construction began in August 1836 but was slowed by the financial panic of 1837. The Eastern Railroad built its line through Lynn at surface level, with operations starting on August 27, 1838 from Salem to East Boston via Lynn. A number of stations have served Lynn, including a series of stations near the current location at Central Square as well as a number of other stations around the city. The first depot at the Central Square location, built in 1838, was a small wooden building. It was replaced in 1848 with a brick building with a 2-track train shed.

Lynn (Irish: Lainn) is a civil parish in County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located about 4.31 kilometres (3 mi) south–south–east of Mullingar.

Lynn is one of 10 civil parishes in the barony of Fartullagh in the Province of Leinster. The civil parish covers 4,905.3 acres (19.851 km²).

Lynn civil parish comprises 12 townlands: Ardillon, Burnellstown, Catherinestown, Clonmoyle, Lynn, Gainestown, Glendevine, Gorteen, Lynn, Tornanstown. Tullanisky and Vilanstown.

The neighbouring civil parishes are: Mullingar to the north, Killucan (barony of Farbill), to the east and Enniscoffey and Moylisker to the south.
