Prince Chunk

Prince Chunk (also known as Princess Chunk and Captain Chunk, real name: Powder) (1998 - November 21, 2010) was a domestic shorthair cat, who at one time was alleged to weigh forty-four pounds (some two pounds short of the world record). He was found in Voorhees, New Jersey, on July 26, 2008, by Animal Control, who nicknamed him "Captain Chunk". After a search for his owner, it was found that his name was Powder and that he was abandoned by Donna Oklatner, an elderly Voorhees resident. Oklatner claimed she couldn't afford to take care of the cat when she lost her home in foreclosure proceedings.

He was later adopted from the Camden County Animal Shelter in New Jersey by Donna Damiani, and in August 2008 his weight was already down to 22 pounds.

According to the Guinness World Records, the largest tabby cat was forty-six pounds and fifteen ounces. Since then, the publishers have dropped the category to prevent deliberate overfeeding and possible harm to cats.

He made television appearances on Live with Regis and Kelly, Good Morning America, Fox News, and MSNBC, based on his reported weight, but reliable sources of the cat's definitive weight in July 2008 are not available. One paper reported that "shelter officials said they were perplexed by the discrepancy", after the Damiani family found that the cat weighed just over 22 pounds, "days after" receiving him.

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! (also known by the acronym C!NCC!) are a French rock band formed in 2007 in Paris. The band consists of vocalist Bertrand Poncet, guitarists Éric Poncet and Paul Wilson and bassist Mathias Rigal, with founding drummer Jonathan Donnaes leaving in 2014 to be replaced by Bastien Lafaye. The band has released three studio albums: Something for Nothing in 2010, Pardon My French in 2013, and Get Lost, Find Yourself in 2015.

History

Formation and Something for Nothing (2007–2010)

The band formed in 2007, when Paul Cordebard wished to experiment with blending influences from pop punk with hardcore punk and heavy metal and invited his friends Bertrand Poncet, Jonathan Donnaes and Vincent Dahmer, to join the band. Shortly after their formation Vincent left and so they asked Bertrand's brother Éric Poncet and close friend Mathias Rigal who despite having no experience as a bass guitarist joined the band. The band name is taken from the scene in 1985 adventure-comedy film The Goonies, in which Chunk and Sloth arrive on the scene to help their friends. Poncet describes the choice of The Goonies as a "good childhood reference" and felt the name reflected who the band members are. The band found it difficult to establish a fanbase in their native country of France as there is, in Poncet's opinion, "absolutely no rock scene." They found solace in playing in other countries around Asia, and especially in North America.

Captain

Captain and Chief officer are overlapping terms, formal or informal, for the commander of a military unit, the commander of a ship, airplane, spacecraft, or other vessel, or the commander of a port, fire department or police department, election precinct, etc. Captain is a military rank in armies, navies, coast guards, etc., typically at the level of an officer commanding a company of infantry, a ship, or a battery of artillery, or similar distinct unit. Chief officer may be used interchangeably with captain in some situations, as when a Captain-ranked Navy officer is serving as the commander of a ship. The terms also may be used as an informal or honorary title for persons in similar commanding roles. In mining (esp. Cornish), it is an honorific given the superintendent or manager of a mine.

The term "captain" derives from katepánō (Greek: κατεπάνω, lit. "[the one] placed at the top", or " the topmost") which was used as title for a senior Byzantine military rank and office. The word was Latinized as capetanus/catepan, and its meaning seems to have merged with that of the Italian "capitaneus" (which derives from the Latin word "caput", meaning head). This hybridized term gave rise to the English language term captain and its equivalents in other languages (Capitan, Kapitan, Kapitän, El Capitan, Il Capitano, Kapudan Pasha etc.)

Pardon my French

"Pardon my French" or "Excuse my French" is a common English language phrase ostensibly disguising profanity as French. The phrase is uttered in an attempt to excuse the user of profanity, swearing, or curses in the presence of those offended by it under the pretense of the words being part of a foreign language.

Usage

At least one source suggests that the phrase "derives from a literal usage of the exclamation. In the 19th century, when English people used French expressions in conversation they often apologised for it - presumably because many of their listeners (then as now) wouldn't be familiar with the language". The definition cites an example from The Lady's Magazine, 1830:

The phrase has been used in broadcast television and family films where less offensive words are preceded by "pardon my French" to intensify their effect without violating censorship or rating guidelines. A good example is in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Cameron calls Mr. Rooney and says, "Pardon my French, but you're an asshole". In another segment, Bueller says, "Pardon my French, but Cameron is so tight that if you were to shove a lump of coal up his ass, in two weeks you'd have a diamond".
