The three Knottn – red porphyry-hills – emerge suddenly from the forest- and meadow-landscape in Verano and lend the area its distinctive character. The circular hiking trail „Knottnkino³“ connects these three rock formations with their newly created resting areas.
ROTSTEIN - KNOTT
At the Rotstein-Knott – in the immediate vicinity of the „Knottnkino“ – conceptualized and created by the artist Franz Messner in the year 2000 – evolves through circular cuts in the terrain, an even, from the porphyry elaborated space with a bench and a backrest. The circular segments immerge into the landscape and dissolve. The only thing that remains on the surface are traces in the form of lines. A net of lines is the origin for the wind rose by the designer Antoinette Bader. A petroglyph cut in the even terrain of the porphyry at the intersection of context and intervention opens up a space for thoughts. Symbolically for the complex integration and positioning of the world the incomplete opens up a dialog between nature and man-made, between past and future.
BEIMSTEIN - KNOTT
The Beimstein-Knott directly above Verano wins over through its circuitousness and the fabulous view. The installation ‚Attimo‘ was realized after the sketches of the late artist Franz Messner and consists in the arrangement of five chairlift seats alongside an imaginary and hazardous route directly over the rocky hill. With a spectacular view on the village the installation creates continuity of the cable car of Vöran and connects the village through a ‚Direttissima‘ with the Beimstein-Knott.
TIMPFLER - KNOTT
The lowest of the three rock formations – the Timpfler Knott – prevails a calm, almost mystical atmosphere. Circular incisions in the rock transform the terrain and create a rest area. The circle as symbol for the eternal is despite its fragmentariness comprehensible. From the distance the delicate drawings as a subtle landmark are made visible only through the shadow play.
Micheal Fliri’s sculpture of a wolf takes part of this place – it wanders almost randomly across the rocky dome. The image has a twofold meaning – the sculpture and its shadow play.
The symbiosis of two human hands, those of the artist, result in the shadow play as the silhouette of a wolf. The hands are caught in a glove – a costume – that only allows this condition. The frontiers between human and animal become blurred, theatrical stagings interfere with seemingly mystical and archaic tradition.

"En junio de 1984, el alpinista Reinhold Messner organizó una expedición a las montañas del Karakorum. Hans Kammerlander estaba con él. Su objetivo: dos cumbres en la cadena del Gasherbrum, ambos con un poco más de 8000 metro de altura. Plot
The story takes place in a Belgium seaside town, at a boarding house for civil servants recovering from surgery and illness. The six male residents' lives change dramatically when two women arrive. Catherine is a lively, sexually liberated woman willing to kiss, dance, and sleep with the men. Leonie is reserved, formal, and conservative. Leonie finds herself attracted to Leon, a Belgian who was a mercenary in Katanga in 1964, He was wounded and carries psychological scars of war. The other men play practical jokes on Leon, some of them cruel. As Leon courts Leonie, his mother brings him emotional distress as do his memories of war. The unlikely pair struggle to get past these obstacles.

Franz (crater)
Franz is a small lunar crater identified during the Apollo mission in August 1971 and located along the eastern edge of the Sinus Amoris, a bay that forms a northern extension to the Mare Tranquillitatis. It lies to the southwest of the prominent crater Macrobius. To the north is the smaller Carmichael, and to the northwest is the diminutive Theophrastus.
The rim of this crater has been eroded due to subsequent impacts, although it retains a generally circular form. The interior has been flooded, leaving only a narrow inner wall and a low surviving rim. This floor has the same albedo as the surrounding terrain, and is not as dark as the lunar mare surface to the north and west. Attached to the exterior of the eastern rim is Proclus E, a merged double-crater formation. Proclus lies to the east across the Palus Somni, or Marsh of Sleep.

"En junio de 1984, el alpinista Reinhold Messner organizó una expedición a las montañas del Karakorum. Hans Kammerlander estaba con él. Su objetivo: dos cumbres en la cadena del Gasherbrum, ambos con un poco más de 8000 metro de altura. Su idea era escalar las dos montañas, una después de la otra, sin parada, sin campamento base y sin oxígeno, sin otra cosa que una mochila.
Nuestra idea no era la de realizar un filme de alpinismo. Lo que queríamos descubrir era lo que pasa por la cabeza de los alpinistas cuando se lanzan a empresas tan arriesgadas. Qué fascinación les conduce sobre estas cumbres como fanáticos. ¿Estas montañas y estas cumbres no están en el fondo en el alma de cada uno de nosotros ?"

The three Knottn – red porphyry-hills – emerge suddenly from the forest- and meadow-landscape in Verano and lend the area its distinctive character. The circular hiking trail „Knottnkino³“ connects these three rock formations with their newly created resting areas.
ROTSTEIN - KNOTT
At the Rotstein-Knott – in the immediate vicinity of the „Knottnkino“ – conceptualized and created by the artist Franz Messner in the year 2000 – evolves through circular cuts in the terrain, an even, from the porphyry elaborated space with a bench and a backrest. The circular segments immerge into the landscape and dissolve. The only thing that remains on the surface are traces in the form of lines. A net of lines is the origin for the wind rose by the designer Antoinette Bader. A petroglyph cut in the even terrain of the porphyry at the intersection of context and intervention opens up a space for thoughts. Symbolically for the complex integration and positioning of the world the incomplete opens up a dialog between nature and man-made, between past and future.
BEIMSTEIN - KNOTT
The Beimstein-Knott directly above Verano wins over through its circuitousness and the fabulous view. The installation ‚Attimo‘ was realized after the sketches of the late artist Franz Messner and consists in the arrangement of five chairlift seats alongside an imaginary and hazardous route directly over the rocky hill. With a spectacular view on the village the installation creates continuity of the cable car of Vöran and connects the village through a ‚Direttissima‘ with the Beimstein-Knott.
TIMPFLER - KNOTT
The lowest of the three rock formations – the Timpfler Knott – prevails a calm, almost mystical atmosphere. Circular incisions in the rock transform the terrain and create a rest area. The circle as symbol for the eternal is despite its fragmentariness comprehensible. From the distance the delicate drawings as a subtle landmark are made visible only through the shadow play.
Micheal Fliri’s sculpture of a wolf takes part of this place – it wanders almost randomly across the rocky dome. The image has a twofold meaning – the sculpture and its shadow play.
The symbiosis of two human hands, those of the artist, result in the shadow play as the silhouette of a wolf. The hands are caught in a glove – a costume – that only allows this condition. The frontiers between human and animal become blurred, theatrical stagings interfere with seemingly mystical and archaic tradition.
