CBNNews.com - Homeland Security officials warn that "right wing extremists" could use the state of the economy and the election of the country's first black president to recruit new members to their cause.

The report defines "right-wing extremism" in the U.S. as including those who reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority as well as disgruntled war veterans, those who are against abortion, and those who oppose illegal immigration.

On Wednesday Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano defended both the Homeland Security Agency and the report.   Read the report here.

"We do not exist to infringe, impinge or invade anybody's constitutional rights of free speech, of free assembly or anything else like that," she said. "We exist to protect the country against the homeland consistant with the United States constitution."

Napolitano also said that the only thing she regrets about the report is that it characterized U.S. war veterans as a potential security threat.
