For my forth country of the year, I flew over to Sri Lanka, starting in the capital, Colombo. After a day on the road, I found myself in the stunning surroundings of Dambulla, where I wasted no time in trekking the Sri Lankan jungle. We then spent some time in Sigiriya, relaxing in the Jetwing hotel and seeing elephants on safari! After another long journey up to the North of the country, we spent a week on the beaches of Trincomalee, where we saw dolphins, whales and I indulged in a spot of jetskiing. But before going home, I had to experience one of the most famous Sri Lankan delicacies, it's tea, in Kandy.

Tamar and James travel around Sri Lanka for two amazing 2 weeks. Here is our full itinerary:
Day 1: Bandaranaike Airport to Kandy
Day 2-4: We stayed in Kandy and visited the Temple of the Tooth, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Sygiria (this was a day trip).
Day 5: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and did White Water Rafting at Kitulgala (AM) vistited the Blue Field Tea Factory (PM) enroute.
Day 6: Nuwara Eliya to Ella. We woke up early to walk on the Horton Plains and see World's End before continuing our journey by train in the Observation Car to Ella (I highly recommend this trip!).
Day 7: Ella to Yala National Park with a safari in the afternoon.
Day 8: Yala to Tangalla
Day 8-10: Beach in Tangalla
Day 11: Tangalla to Mirissa
Day 12: Mirissa to Unawatuna
Day 13-14: Unawatuna
Day 15: Unawatuna to Galle
Day 16: Fly Home!

4. Horton Plains National Park- A protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest.
5. Dambulla cave temple AKA Golden Temple of Dambulla is a World Heritage Site (1991) in Sri Lanka.
6. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage- An orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants.
7. Anuradhapura- The Anuradhapura Kingdom was the first established kingdom in ancient Sri Lanka.
8. Yala National Park- Yala National Park is the most visited national park in Sri Lanka.
9. Adam's Peak AKA Samanalakanda- This is a 2,243 m tall conical mountain located in central Sri Lanka.
10. Dunhinda Falls- A waterfall located in Badulla. Dunhinda Falls is one of Sri Lanka's most beautiful waterfalls.}

While traveling the country for more than 2 weeks I discovered a new side of the island almost every day. I have been in Sri Lanka for a video production and got to see and experience a lot in a comparably short amount of time.
Accompanied by local guides and wildlife experts I visited several places all over the country: from Colombo through the center where I saw the lion rock Sigiriya, the Kaudulla National Park and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Then I headed to Trincomalee & Pigeon Island in the north-east, afterwards I flew back and went to the south coast and continued to the Yala National Park as well as the highlands in Kandy.
This way I came to see the best of Sri Lanka!

Sri Lanka (/sriːˈlɑːŋkə, -ˈlæŋkə/ or 
i/ʃriː-/;Sinhalese - ශ්රී ලංකාව, Tamil Ilaṅkai), officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and known from the beginning of British colonial rule until 1972 as Ceylon (/sᵻˈlɒnˌ seɪ-ˌ siː-/), is an island country in South Asia near south-east India.
Sri Lanka has maritime borders with India to the northwest and the Maldives to the southwest. Its documented history spans 3,000 years, with evidence of pre-historic human settlements dating back to at least 125,000 years. Its geographic location and deep harbours made it of great strategic importance from the time of the ancient Silk Road through to World War II.
A diverse and multicultural country, Sri Lanka is home to many religions, ethnic groups, and languages. In addition to the majority Sinhalese, it is home to large groups of Sri Lankan and Indian Tamils, Moors, Burghers, Malays, Kaffirs and the aboriginal Vedda. Sri Lanka has a rich Buddhist heritage, and the first known Buddhist writings of Sri Lanka, the Pāli Canon, dates back to the Fourth Buddhist council in 29 BC. The country's recent history has been marred by a thirty-year civil war which decisively ended when Sri Lankan military defeated Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 2009.

For my forth country of the year, I flew over to Sri Lanka, starting in the capital, Colombo. After a day on the road, I found myself in the stunning surroundings of Dambulla, where I wasted no time in trekking the Sri Lankan jungle. We then spent some time in Sigiriya, relaxing in the Jetwing hotel and seeing elephants on safari! After another long journey up to the North of the country, we spent a week on the beaches of Trincomalee, where we saw dolphins, whales and I indulged in a spot of jetskiing. But before going home, I had to experience one of the most famous Sri Lankan delicacies, it's tea, in Kandy. Here is our full itinerary: Day 1: Bandaranaike Airport to Kandy Day 2-4: We stayed in Kandy and visited the Temple of the Tooth, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Sygiria (this was a day trip). Day 5: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and did White Water Rafting at Kitulgala (AM) vistited the Blue Field Tea Factory (PM) enroute. Day 6: Nuwara Eliya to Ella. We woke up early to walk on the Horton Plains and see World's End before continuing our journey by train in the Observation Car to Ella (I highly recommend this trip!). Day 7: Ella to Yala National Park with a safari in the afternoon. Day 8: Yala to Tangalla Day 8-10: Beach in Tangalla Day 11: Tangalla to Mirissa Day 12: Mirissa to Unawatuna Day 13-14: Unawatuna Day 15: Unawatuna to Galle Day 16: Fly Home! For my forth country of the year, I flew over to Sri Lanka, starting in the capital, Colombo. After a day on the road, I found myself in the stunning surroundings of Dambulla, where I wasted no time in trekking the Sri Lankan jungle. We then spent some time in Sigiriya, relaxing in the Jetwing hotel and seeing elephants on safari! After another long journey up to the North of the country, we spent a week on the beaches of Trincomalee, where we saw dolphins, whales and I indulged in a spot of jetskiing. But before going home, I had to experience one of the most famous Sri Lankan delicacies, it's tea, in Kandy.

Day 1: Bandaranaike Airport to Kandy
Day 2-4: We stayed in Kandy and visited the Temple of the Tooth, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Sygiria (this was a day trip).
Day 5: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and did White Water Rafting at Kitulgala (AM) vistited the Blue Field Tea Factory (PM) enroute.
Day 6: Nuwara Eliya to Ella. We woke up early to walk on the Horton Plains and see World's End before continuing our journey by train in the Observation Car to Ella (I highly recommend this trip!).
Day 7: Ella to Yala National Park with a safari in the afternoon.
Day 8: Yala to Tangalla
Day 8-10: Beach in Tangalla
Day 11: Tangalla to Mirissa
Day 12: Mirissa to Unawatuna
Day 13-14: Unawatuna
Day 15: Unawatuna to Galle
Day 16: Fly Home!

Accompanied by local guides and wildlife experts I visited several places all over the country: from Colombo through the center where I saw the lion rock Sigiriya, the Kaudulla National Park and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Then I headed to Trincomalee & Pigeon Island in the north-east, afterwards I flew back and went to the south coast and continued to the Yala National Park as well as the highlands in Kandy.
This way I came to see the best of Sri Lanka!

While traveling the country for more than 2 weeks I discovered a new side of the island almost every day. I have been in Sri Lanka for a video production and got to see and experience a lot in a comparably short amount of time.

Hey guys, Here is my vlog of my journey to Sri-Lanka with the charity Take Heart Mercy Mission. A truly fantastic charity with two main goals: 1) performing intricate and complicated operations on children who would otherwise die from various heart conditions. By Funding visits for a dedicated group of surgeons, doctors and nurses from the Evelina London Children's Hospital. 2) to medical teams in Sri Lanka so that doctors and surgeons there can carry out similar operations throughout the year and therefore save many more lives in the future. Sri Lanka’s cool hill country offers a welcome antidote to the heat of the coast and low-lying plains. Situated amongst verdant tea plantations and at an elevation of 1990 m, Nuwara Eliya is one of the highest and most attractive towns in Sri Lanka’s hill region. Built by English tea growers, it remained their favourite hill station during colonial times. Nuwara Eliya boasts the best golf course in Sri Lanka and is home to the impressive Hakgala Botanical Gardens.
