The greatest silent star of all time Mary Pickford in her final film "Secrets" from 1933. She only made 4 talkies, and this was one of them!
Mary was known for playing little girl roles, her final such one coming well in her 30s. She was 41 when she made this film and was playing a 16-19 year old. In addition to growing personal problems this was the main reason she quit films, not because her voice was unsuitable as rumored (her first talkie Coquette won an Oscar).

[The following is excerpted from Judge Dale’s The Great American Adventure – Secrets of America.] On March 9, 1933, House Joint Resolution No. 192-10 by the 73rd Congress, was voted into law, which is the Emergency Banking Act. This Act declared the Treasury of the United States, ‘Bankrupt’, which is an impossible feat since the U. S. Treasury was secretly closed by the Congress twelve years earlier in 1921. Head of maize or "Indian Corn". Voice over describes how to cook maize. Describes how the cob is really a group of 400 - 600 fertilised seeds of the maize. C/U of the cob. Through time lapse we see one of the corn seeds putting out roots and growing. We see the shoots pushing through the earth. Leaves break through spear like cover and start to grow. The root pushes deeper down into the soil. Two roots struggle for supremacy. Leaves unfurl. New roots grow like an umbrella in shape to hold the plant into the ground and prevent it being blown over by strong winds. Aerial roots appear. Full grown maize blows in the wind. Maize flowers. Male and female flowers. The male flower puts out "anthers" which open and drop out pollen. Magnified anther is shown opening - pollen grains drop out. Highly magnified pollen grains. Anther closes during wet weather as water spoils pollen.
The plant is prodded and flicked with a hand to show how clouds of pollen are released. The pollen is carried to the female flower. We see the female flower growing. Long threads of "silk" are covered with sticky hairs which catch grains of pollen. C/U of pollen putting out a tube. Graphic illustration of the pollen tube - animation. Secrets is a 1933 Western film directed by Frank Borzage and starring Mary Pickford in her last film role. The film is a remake of Secrets (1924), a silent film starring Norma Talmadge.
In 1930, Pickford had begun a remake of the Norma Talmadge Secrets titled Forever Yours with director Marshall Neilan and actors Kenneth MacKenna and Don Alvarado. After spending $300,000, Pickford stopped production and destroyed all negatives.
Wealthy banker and shipowner William Marlowe and his wife Martha have their hearts set on marrying their daughter Mary to English aristocrat Lord Hurley. However, Mary has other ideas. She has fallen in love with John Carlton, one of her father's clerks. When Mr. Marlowe finds out, he fires John. John decides to go west to make his fortune, then return for Mary, but she insists on going with him. They elope.
The couple settle in California and after a while, have a herd of cattle and a baby boy. While John and hired hand Sunshine are away getting supplies, notorious outlaw Jake Houser and his gang show up and rustle the herd. John rounds up the other ranchers. They catch and hang three of the gang, including Jake's brother, but Jake gets away. Vowing revenge, the outlaw and his men attack the Carlton home. Fortunately, help arrives and the rustlers are wiped out. The baby succumbs to illness during the gunfight.

The claws help the hop plant to twist its way around a smooth surface. Hop flowers growing on a male hop plant. Female hop plant produces flowers. We see them grow through time lapse. Head of maize or "Indian Corn". Voice over describes how to cook maize. Describes how the cob is really a group of 400 - 600 fertilised seeds of the maize. C/U of the cob. Through time lapse we see one of the corn seeds putting out roots and growing. We see the shoots pushing through the earth. Leaves break through spear like cover and start to grow. The root pushes deeper down into the soil. Two roots struggle for supremacy. Leaves unfurl. New roots grow like an umbrella in shape to hold the plant into the ground and prevent it being blown over by strong winds. Aerial roots appear. Full grown maize blows in the wind. Maize flowers. Male and female flowers. The male flower puts out "anthers" which open and drop out pollen. Magnified anther is shown opening - pollen grains drop out. Highly magnified pollen grains. Anther closes during wet weather as water spoils pollen.
The plant is prodded and flicked with a hand to show how clouds of pollen are released. The pollen is carried to the female flower. We see the female flower growing. Long threads of "silk" are covered with sticky hairs which catch grains of pollen. C/U of pollen putting out a tube. Graphic illustration of the pollen tube - animation. Protect Your Skin from the SunThe Japanese are very good at protecting their skin from the sun, because we know that 80% of skin aging causes are from sun damage. As you may know, we use a lot of physical protection such as gloves, masks, sunglasses, and umbrellas in addition to sunscreen to protect our skin.
Eat a Skin Friendly DietFor healthy skin, you need the following three essential amino acids: glycin, prolin, and alanine. A lot of glycin is in bonito flake, soy, wheat, tofu, scalp, and almond. Prolin is also in soy. Alanine is in bonito flake, tofu, and seaweed. As you can see, many Japanese foods include these three skin friendly amino acids.
Use Fewer Skincare ProductsThe fewer skincare products you use, the healthier your skin will be. When you use a lot of skincare products, the various ingredients can cause allergic reactions. Your skin is already equipped with its own natural moisture and oils, a.k.a. the best skin cream in the world. Minimize your skincare routine so that your skin is able to take care of itself instead of relying on skincare products.
Skin Fast Once a WeekIf you use less lotion, you will have more supple skin. Excessive moisturizing makes your skin lazy and stops it from producing its own natural moisture. To train your skin to keep producing its own moisture, try fasting from moisturizes. Once a week, go to bed without applying any moisturizer. How easy is that?
The Less Washing, The Less Acne Breakouts Excessive washing can strip away your skin’s natural oils, which are necessary for healthy skin. For example, teenagers with acne often wash their faces excessively. However, this excessive washing is what makes their acne worse. All skin needs some oil and moisture, but excessive washing kills good bacteria and your skin’s natural oils. As a result, your skin tries to produce even more oil, which causes more acne breakouts.
Don’t Expect Quick Fixes. Chemical skincare products can reduce age spots or wrinkles over night, but these results don’t last. It takes a minimum of 28 days for skin to renew itself. So, if you see any changes overnight, they’re just covering up the problem temporarily.
The Less Friction, The Less PigmentationFriction causes cell damage. For example, look at your panty line. If there's a dark mark, that’s due to fabric friction. The same principle applies to your face. When skin cells are damaged by friction, they become darker and thicker to protect from further damage. So, don't rub your skin excessively. If you have to scrub your face periodically, do the bare minimum. When you use a towel after washing, pat your skin gently. Never rub.

"People have realised that they are the people getting ripped off here", said Australian Senator Sam Dastyari. Dawn Cottrell is a talented 16-year-old artist who cuts herself with a knife every time she is upset and is unable to articulate her feelings. As she has no friends, she has to depend on her dysfunctional family for support. She finally finds a friend in Lorraine, another art student who is troubled and undergoes professional help - something Dawn is resistant to do. However, she is finally made to see Lorraine’s psychiatrist – Dr. Parella after she is rushed to the hospital due to another self-inflected wound. The disorder is identified and therapy begins. While at her home, things get bad. Lorraine is also hospitalized due to domestic abuse and Dawn’s mother denies the latter a visit. Things get even worse when Dawn leaves home in the middle of the night. In the US, one out of every two hundred girls suffers from Dawn’s condition and a proper solution has still not been found.
