After a good nights sleep at Argyle Manor B&B; in Windsor I woke up early on October 17, 2008 to interview my hosts, Dr. Paul and Kerri Thomas. I found out that Dr. Paul Thomas is a retired university professor in human kinetics and a renowned expert in ergonomics. Both he and his wife have been involved in competitive sports for many years and Dr. Thomas still coaches basketball at a local private high school and his children are actively involved in high level sports.
Breakfast was fabulous and included a fruit salad, freshly baked muffins made from self-rising flour and ice cream (the flavour was double-churned strawberry) as well as a garbage bag omelette (omelette ingredients that are placed in a clear plastic bag and boiled in hot water).
I had a couple of hours before my planned border crossing to Detroit, so I took a walk in the surrounding Walkerville area, a historic neighbourhood that was developed by Hiram Walker, the distillery owner of Canadian Club Whiskey fame. The distillery began operations in 1856 and Walkerville was originally a housing development for workers at his distillery. It also featured a number of upscale mansions for managers at Hiram Walker. The workers townhouses were built from 1858 onwards and are still in great shape today.
My stroll in the neighbourhood continued to Willistead Manor, the original mansion of the Walker family that today is a city park. The mansion was built between 1904 and 1906 and was designed by renowned Detroit architect Albert Kahn and is surrounded by coachhouses and a large estate.
After saying goodbye to the Thomas I briefly stopped at the Hiram Walker & Sons distillery on the bank of the Detroit River, east of downtown Windsor. Today Canadian Club Whisky Company is part of the Pernod Ricard beverage empire. The Heritage Centre is a gorgeous early 19th century red brick Italianate building that provides guided tours of the Canadian Club facility.
With my tight schedule of course I had to move on since I still wanted to see the waterfront and the Odette Sculpture Park which features more than 31 large, internationally renowned contemporary sculptures. The views of the Ambassador Bridge and of downtown Detroit from the Windsor waterfront are simply astounding.
Well, it was time to cross the border now. Punctually at noon I rolled through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel to start my Detroit adventures.

What a beautiful city. I hadn't been to Windsor in 20+ years. I did, however, go there often from the mid 70's until the early 90's. I find it ironic how a river separates two cultures that have been as different as night and day since I've been around. The Canadians have definately made sure that the waterfront is for the citizens and not big corporations or government. The east side of Windsor, starting from downtown has one beautiful park after another where cars can park near the water. All are super clean, well maintained, nothing is in need of repair, etc. Even the casino, Caesar's, is super clean, and believe it or not smoke free. A fantastic place to have fun. Crime is low in Windsor. Wildlife is protected, heavily. There are signs all over indicating heavy fines for littering that stick if a person is caught. While going through customs the agent referred me to immigration for a brief interview. The first question asked was why I didn't want to gamble in Detroit. Apples & Oranges. Lots of reasons; namely not getting my car broken into, potential lung cancer and crappy odds. If I go somewhere I'd like my odds to be calculated gambling and not where I park. LOL. If you lived in Canada and worked for a government agency, and you visited Detroit, it would be hard not to have an attitude with many Detroiters wanting to visit Windsor. I know there are plenty of quality people from Detroit, but those aren't the people I'm talking about. Look at Belle Isle before the state of Michigan took it over. For years right across from a waterfront Canadian park that looks brand new.

It's 2012 and GCAT is at it again! Travelling through the wonderland of Canada's breadbasket -- southern and south western Ontario.
Starting in Windsor, just across the river from Detroit Michigan.
Windsor is quite a picturesque city. But it's also a big bustling city with terrific places to go and great things to do. We landed there just in time to join more than two million people who gathered to watch one of the most impressive fireworks we've ever seen. Not to mention a terrific carnival with Windsor Summerfest in full bloom!
Windsor is really a two nation destination -- just slip across the Detroit River and visit one of America's busiest and boldest cities.

Windsor is the southernmost city in Canada and is located in Southwestern Ontario at the western end of the heavily populated Quebec City–Windsor Corridor. It is within the Essex, Ontario Census division, although administratively separated from the county government. Separated by the Detroit River, Windsor is located south of Detroit, Michigan in the United States. Windsor is known as The City of Roses and residents are known as Windsorites.
Prior to European exploration and settlement, the Windsor area was inhabited by the First Nations and Native American people. Windsor was settled by the French in 1749 as an agricultural settlement. It is the oldest continually inhabited European settlement in Canada west of Montreal. The area was first named Petite Côte ("Little Coast" - as opposed to the longer coastline on the Detroit side of the river). Later it was called La Côte de Misère ("Poverty Coast") because of the sandy soils near LaSalle.
Windsor's French Canadian heritage is reflected in many French street names, such as Ouellette, Pelissier, François, Pierre, Langlois, Marentette, and Lauzon. The current street system of Windsor (a grid with elongated blocks) reflects the Canadien method of agricultural land division, where the farms were long and narrow, fronting along the river. Today, the north-south street name often indicates the name of the family that at one time farmed the land. The street system of outlying areas is consistent with the British system for granting land concessions. There is a significant French-speaking minority in Windsor and the surrounding area, particularly in the Lakeshore, Tecumseh and LaSalle areas.

After a good nights sleep at Argyle Manor B&B; in Windsor I woke up early on October 17, 2008 to interview my hosts, Dr. Paul and Kerri Thomas. I found out that Dr. Paul Thomas is a retired university professor in human kinetics and a renowned expert in ergonomics. Both he and his wife have been involved in competitive sports for many years and Dr. Thomas still coaches basketball at a local private high school and his children are actively involved in high level sports. Breakfast was fabulous and included a fruit salad, freshly baked muffins made from self-rising flour and ice cream (the flavour was double-churned strawberry) as well as a garbage bag omelette (omelette ingredients that are placed in a clear plastic bag and boiled in hot water). What a beautiful city. I hadn't been to Windsor in 20+ years. I did, however, go there often from the mid 70's until the early 90's. I find it ironic how a river separates two cultures that have been as different as night and day since I've been around. The Canadians have definately made sure that the waterfront is for the citizens and not big corporations or government. The east side of Windsor, starting from downtown has one beautiful park after another where cars can park near the water. All are super clean, well maintained, nothing is in need of repair, etc. Even the casino, Caesar's, is super clean, and believe it or not smoke free. A fantastic place to have fun. Crime is low in Windsor. Wildlife is protected, heavily. There are signs all over indicating heavy fines for littering that... -

Detroit— They call it "The Hum," an annoying, low-level, throbbing sound that few Metro Detroiters hear but one Canadians in Windsor can't stand. For the past two years, thousands of Windsor residents say they have been going loony over the drumming/vibrating/pulsating sonic assault that many believe is emanating from Zug Island, a 600-acre, heavily industrialized manmade island jutting into the Detroit River. The Detroit Windsor Tunnel
The Detroit--Windsor Tunnel is the only sub aqueous international border crossing in North America connecting Detroit, Michigan in the United States, with Windsor, Ontario in Canada. It was completed in 1930. It is the second busiest crossing between the United States and Canada after the nearby Ambassador Bridge. About 13,000 vehicles (cars, vans, buses) use the tunnel each day. I found out that Dr. Paul Thomas is a retired university professor in human kinetics and a renowned expert in ergonomics. Both he and his wife have been involved in competitive sports for many years and Dr. Thomas still coaches basketball at a local private high school and his children are actively involved in high level sports.
Breakfast was fabulous and included a fruit salad, freshly baked muffins made from self-rising flour and ice cream (the flavour was double-churned strawberry) as well as a garbage bag omelette (omelette ingredients that are placed in a clear plastic bag and boiled in hot water).
I had a couple of hours before my planned border crossing to Detroit, so I took a walk in the surrounding Walkerville area, a historic neighbourhood that was developed by Hiram Walker, the distillery owner of Canadian Club Whiskey fame. The distillery began operations in 1856 and Walkerville was originally a housing development for workers at his distillery. It also featured a number of upscale mansions for managers at Hiram Walker. The workers townhouses were built from 1858 onwards and are still in great shape today.
My stroll in the neighbourhood continued to Willistead Manor, the original mansion of the Walker family that today is a city park. The mansion was built between 1904 and 1906 and was designed by renowned Detroit architect Albert Kahn and is surrounded by coachhouses and a large estate.
After saying goodbye to the Thomas I briefly stopped at the Hiram Walker & Sons distillery on the bank of the Detroit River, east of downtown Windsor. Today Canadian Club Whisky Company is part of the Pernod Ricard beverage empire. The Heritage Centre is a gorgeous early 19th century red brick Italianate building that provides guided tours of the Canadian Club facility.
With my tight schedule of course I had to move on since I still wanted to see the waterfront and the Odette Sculpture Park which features more than 31 large, internationally renowned contemporary sculptures. The views of the Ambassador Bridge and of downtown Detroit from the Windsor waterfront are simply astounding.
Well, it was time to cross the border now. Punctually at noon I rolled through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel to start my Detroit adventures.

While going through customs the agent referred me to immigration for a brief interview. The first question asked was why I didn't want to gamble in Detroit. Apples & Oranges. I know there are plenty of quality people from Detroit, but those aren't the people I'm talking about. Look at Belle Isle before the state of Michigan took it over. For years right across from a waterfront Canadian park that looks brand new.

What a beautiful city. I hadn't been to Windsor in 20+ years. I did, however, go there often from the mid 70's until the early 90's. I find it ironic how a river separates two cultures that have been as different as night and day since I've been around. The Canadians have definately made sure that the waterfront is for the citizens and not big corporations or government. The east side of Windsor, starting from downtown has one beautiful park after another where cars can park near the water. All are super clean, well maintained, nothing is in need of repair, etc. Even the casino, Caesar's, is super clean, and believe it or not smoke free. A fantastic place to have fun. Crime is low in Windsor. Wildlife is protected, heavily. There are signs all over indicating heavy fines for littering that stick if a person is caught. While going through customs the agent referred me to immigration for a brief interview. The first question asked was why I didn't want to gamble in Detroit. Apples & Oranges. It is the second busiest crossing between the United States and Canada after the nearby Ambassador Bridge. About 13,000 vehicles (cars, vans, buses) use the tunnel each day. The structure is jointly owned by the two cities. A 2004 Border Transportation Partnership study showed that 150,000 jobs in the region and $13 billion (U.S.) in annual production depend on the Windsor-Detroit international border crossing.
When constructed, it was only the third underwater vehicular tunnel constructed in the United States (after the Holland Tunnel between Jersey City, New Jersey, and downtown Manhattan, New York City, New York and the Posey Tube between Oakland and Alameda, California).
Its creation was prompted by the opening of cross-border rail freight tunnels including the St. Clair Tunnel between Port Huron, Michigan and Sarnia, Ontario and the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel between Detroit and Windsor.

As industrial manufacturing jobs migrated overseas to nations that have poverty level wages, cities like Windsor struggled to get a grip on exactly how their new economies would look and what sectors would fill the employment gap.
Although Windsor was challenged by one of the highest unemployment rates in Canada for several years, the city is now moving forward, with employment on the rise, a soaring real estate market and new investment in diverse areas, including tourism, green energy, large-scale greenhouse and viticulture, financial services, construction and alternative manufacturing.
Brandon interviews Nicole Slieman, Program Manager for the University of Windsor's Business Innovation MBA program, as well as the University's President, Dr. Alan Wildeman. Both of these guests concur that there are increasing career opportunities in Windsor and that the future is looking bright in many different areas.

Windsor, like other large cities across North America that had traditionally relied heavily on industry for its economy, has had some bumps in the road in recent years. As industrial manufacturing jobs migrated overseas to nations that have poverty level wages, cities like Windsor struggled to get a grip on exactly how their new economies would look and what sectors would fill the employment gap.
Although Windsor was challenged by one of the highest unemployment rates in Canada for several years, the city is now moving forward, with employment on the rise, a soaring real estate market and new investment in diverse areas, including tourism, green energy, large-scale greenhouse and viticulture, financial services, construction and alternative manufacturing.
Brandon interviews Nicole Slieman, Program Manager for the University of Windsor's Business Innovation MBA program, as well as the University's President, Dr. Alan Wildeman. Both of these guests concur that there are increasing career opportunities in Windsor and that the future is looking bright in many different areas.

Each year, students from our graduating class choose a variety of topics of interest to both teens and adults in our community. They gather opinions and insights from their peers, while also interviewing experts from the community who have special knowledge relevant to the topic.
These short television news features provide an outstanding opportunity for students of digital media to gain experience producing a professionally-styled news piece, including all of the planning, script writing, pre-interviews, research, camera/lighting/sound work and editing that would be involved in the media industry setting.
F.J. Brennan offers an SHSM - Specialist High Skills Major - certificate program in Arts and Culture, specializing in Communications, Digital Media and Photography. Students in this program gain specialized training, certifications and reach-ahead experiences in their chosen vocation.
These items are broadcast locally on Windsor, Ontario's TV Cogeco community channel (channel 11 or HD 700) and here on your YouTube channel. He began his radio career on Windsor, Ontario's CKLW (800 AM) in 1969 and 1970, followed by WKNR (1300 AM) in late 1970 to early 1972, followed by WRIF FM (101.1) to April 1973. Pat is best known for the 42 years he spent in the New York City market working for WPLJ, WNEW-FM, WAXQ and WCBS FM. He can now be heard on Sirius XM Radio '60s on 6 afternoons from 1:00PM to 5PM (Eastern) and also on Classic Rewind. Pat has done television voiceover work, including announcing for Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve from 2000 to 2010.

But don't ask how I managed to clear the streets and have so few cars on the road in Windsor. Whoo hooo that was a lot of work. I heard the siren's stop out front of my place so I looked out side & see a fire at N&G; on Crawford Ave. in Windsor, Ontario on the June 30th. You can see the flames when the fire fighters start to lift to the roof up. Good job stopping the fire Windsor fire fighters. No one was hurt in the fire that I know of. The owner was vary emotional. -

Zombie Walk 2010 - Windsor Ontario
A short explanation of a Zombie Walk is simple - dress up in crazy or basic makeup like a zombie or zombie apocalypse survivor and walk around with a bunch of people. The purpose of this one in particular was also relatively simple - a massive fundraiser for the Downtown Mission, a food bank here in Windsor. This was organized by the brilliant mind of Jacob Witt, who deserves all the attention and more for organizing this. I arrived at work place which is outside Windsor On in the country for the weekend On May 15 2013. and made a little intro video explaining what i had been doing with the ETs by hooking up and asking for a sighting this week. Nothing happened since March where i got 2 sightings, wondering why, i dreamt it was because the Boston Bombing and Korea drama and the populatiuons would b stressed out and paranoid so the ETs wouldnt show me any craft, finally they did.

May 16, I had been hooking up to the ETs asking them for a sighting, that evening they finally showed up, and i was ready for it. Canon HD video cam on a tripod, Canon T2i for photos and video handheld. In the background i deliberatly turned on the radio for audio during the sighting.
I was shooting a Turkey Vulture when the craft shows up and i see it. The Craft moving toward the South southwest against the wind for over 20 minutes over my head ruling out Satilite, ISS, Balloon, Bird, Planet, Star. 2 cameras, photos, Radio, Birds cross the craft in the video several times, if that wasnt enough to top it off the craft then, what i thought at the time takes off instantly, but upon review it turns out the craft actually explodes into 2 craft as one descends down a little to the bottom of the frame as the video cam unfocusses.

A short explanation of a Zombie Walk is simple - dress up in crazy or basic makeup like a zombie or zombie apocalypse survivor and walk around with a bunch of people. The purpose of this one in particular was also relatively simple - a massive fundraiser for the Downtown Mission, a food bank here in Windsor. This was organized by the brilliant mind of Jacob Witt, who deserves all the attention and more for organizing this.
In the end, it was a hellova time and without a doubt deserves to be a Windsor tradition. See you all next year!
