Summary:
Although Slade saw their biggest commercial success between 1972 and 1974, this show, culled from the archives of promoter Bill Graham, showed the Brit rockers were still red-hot as a live act in 1975.
Opening with "Them Kinda Monkeys Can't Swing," they move next into "Bangin' Man," a song that described life as a rock star in the mid-1970s. Another highlight is an extended version of "Let The Good Times Roll," which moves into "Get Down and Get With It." There are more big hits thrown in for good measure, making this a complete Slade show.
Formed in 1966 in the English industrial midlands as the N'Betweens, the band soon built up a formidable following on the live circuit playing their own versions of contemporary rock covers and obscure U.S. R&B; records. A name change to Ambrose Slade and a record deal with Fontana records followed, but it wasn't until 1969, when they were signed up by former Jimi Hendrix manager and Animals bass player Chas Chandler, did Slade begin to make themselves known to a wider audience.
Chandler changed their name to simply Slade, and it was he along with publicist Keith Altham who changed their image to that of "Britain's first skinhead band," a move that, while it got them the publicity they wanted, didn't help with any chart success until 1971, when they released their version of an obscure Bobby Marchan track entitled "Get Down With It." That song propelled the band into the charts of the day with a #16 hit. By now they had grown their hair, and as the U.K.'s flagship TV pop show, Top Of The Pops was now being transmitted in color, they adopted a "primary colors rule" approach and were one of the pioneering bands of the glam look. "Get Down With It" was soon followed up by the first of their six U.K. #1 hits "Coz I Luv."
Slade then embarked upon a five-year run of constant chart success in their homeland and were huge in Europe and Australia. Despite many attempts at breaking the U.S. market, they never really caught on with the record-buying public but were influential nonetheless with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who witnessed them at New York's Academy. Simmons has recently admitted that without Slade, there would have been no KISS.
It would take America another decade before Slade received their first chart hits with the early-'80s songs, "My Oh My" and "Run Runaway." This success followed the publicity they received after Quiet Riot had scored successive #1 U.S. hits with covers of two of Slade's biggest hits "Cum On Feel The Noize" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," the latter which can be heard here as the show's closer.
This show was recorded in August of 1975 while Slade was touring to promote the soundtrack LP from their feature film Flame, which had been released to critical acclaim in their homeland. Many of the songs here are from that album, including "How Does It Feel?," widely regarded as the band's finest moment. The classic hits are represented too, including "Gudbye T'Jane," "Far Far Away" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," as well as long-time stage favorite "Just Want A Little Bit," which features the blistering bass of virtuoso Jimmy Lea.

Slade are a rock band from Wolverhampton, who rose to prominence during the glam rock era of the early 1970s. With 17 consecutive Top 20 hits and six number ones, the British Hit Singles & Albums names them as the most successful British group of the 1970s based on sales of singles. They were the first act to have three singles enter at number one, and all six of the band's chart-toppers were penned by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea. Total UK sales stand at 6,520,171, and their best selling single, "Merry Xmas Everybody", has sold in excess of one million copies.
Following an unsuccessful move to the United States in 1975, the band's popularity waned but was unexpectedly revived in 1980 when they were last minute replacements for Ozzy Osbourne at the Reading Rock Festival. The band later acknowledged this to have been one of the highlights of their career. The original line up split in 1992 but the band reformed the following year as Slade II. The band has continued, in various guises, to the present day.

Plot: Joseph Rearden takes the fall for a robbery and winds up in the Scrubs. Although Slade saw their biggest commercial success between 1972 and 1974, this show, culled from the archives of promoter Bill Graham, showed the Brit rockers were still red-hot as a live act in 1975.
Opening with "Them Kinda Monkeys Can't Swing," they move next into "Bangin' Man," a song that described life as a rock star in the mid-1970s. Another highlight is an extended version of "Let The Good Times Roll," which moves into "Get Down and Get With It." There are more big hits thrown in for good measure, making this a complete Slade show.
Formed in 1966 in the English industrial midlands as the N'Betweens, the band soon built up a formidable following on the live circuit playing their own versions of contemporary rock covers and obscure U.S. R&B; records. A name change to Ambrose Slade and a record deal with Fontana records followed, but it wasn't until 1969, when they were signed up by former Jimi Hendrix manager and Animals bass player Chas Chandler, did Slade begin to make themselves known to a wider audience.
Chandler changed their name to simply Slade, and it was he along with publicist Keith Altham who changed their image to that of "Britain's first skinhead band," a move that, while it got them the publicity they wanted, didn't help with any chart success until 1971, when they released their version of an obscure Bobby Marchan track entitled "Get Down With It." That song propelled the band into the charts of the day with a #16 hit. By now they had grown their hair, and as the U.K.'s flagship TV pop show, Top Of The Pops was now being transmitted in color, they adopted a "primary colors rule" approach and were one of the pioneering bands of the glam look. "Get Down With It" was soon followed up by the first of their six U.K. #1 hits "Coz I Luv."
Slade then embarked upon a five-year run of constant chart success in their homeland and were huge in Europe and Australia. Despite many attempts at breaking the U.S. market, they never really caught on with the record-buying public but were influential nonetheless with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who witnessed them at New York's Academy. Simmons has recently admitted that without Slade, there would have been no KISS.
It would take America another decade before Slade received their first chart hits with the early-'80s songs, "My Oh My" and "Run Runaway." This success followed the publicity they received after Quiet Riot had scored successive #1 U.S. hits with covers of two of Slade's biggest hits "Cum On Feel The Noize" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," the latter which can be heard here as the show's closer.
This show was recorded in August of 1975 while Slade was touring to promote the soundtrack LP from their feature film Flame, which had been released to critical acclaim in their homeland. Summary:
Although Slade saw their biggest commercial success between 1972 and 1974, this show, culled from the archives of promoter Bill Graham, showed the Brit rockers were still red-hot as a live act in 1975.
Opening with "Them Kinda Monkeys Can't Swing," they move next into "Bangin' Man," a song that described life as a rock star in the mid-1970s. Another highlight is an extended version of "Let The Good Times Roll," which moves into "Get Down and Get With It." There are more big hits thrown in for good measure, making this a complete Slade show.
Formed in 1966 in the English industrial midlands as the N'Betweens, the band soon built up a formidable following on the live circuit playing their own versions of contemporary rock covers and obscure U.S. R&B; records. A name change to Ambrose Slade and a record deal with Fontana records followed, but it wasn't until 1969, when they were signed up by former Jimi Hendrix manager and Animals bass player Chas Chandler, did Slade begin to make themselves known to a wider audience.
Chandler changed their name to simply Slade, and it was he along with publicist Keith Altham who changed their image to that of "Britain's first skinhead band," a move that, while it got them the publicity they wanted, didn't help with any chart success until 1971, when they released their version of an obscure Bobby Marchan track entitled "Get Down With It." That song propelled the band into the charts of the day with a #16 hit. By now they had grown their hair, and as the U.K.'s flagship TV pop show, Top Of The Pops was now being transmitted in color, they adopted a "primary colors rule" approach and were one of the pioneering bands of the glam look. "Get Down With It" was soon followed up by the first of their six U.K. #1 hits "Coz I Luv."
Slade then embarked upon a five-year run of constant chart success in their homeland and were huge in Europe and Australia. Despite many attempts at breaking the U.S. market, they never really caught on with the record-buying public but were influential nonetheless with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who witnessed them at New York's Academy. Simmons has recently admitted that without Slade, there would have been no KISS.
It would take America another decade before Slade received their first chart hits with the early-'80s songs, "My Oh My" and "Run Runaway." This success followed the publicity they received after Quiet Riot had scored successive #1 U.S. hits with covers of two of Slade's biggest hits "Cum On Feel The Noize" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," the latter which can be heard here as the show's closer.
This show was recorded in August of 1975 while Slade was touring to promote the soundtrack LP from their feature film Flame, which had been released to critical acclaim in their homeland. Many of the songs here are from that album, including "How Does It Feel?," widely regarded as the band's finest moment. The classic hits are represented too, including "Gudbye T'Jane," "Far Far Away" and "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," as well as long-time stage favorite "Just Want A Little Bit," which features the blistering bass of virtuoso Jimmy Lea.

Slade Alive! es considerado como uno de los mejores álbumes en directo de todos los tiempos, debido a la manera en que fue concebido y a su tremendo potencial en vivo. Gracias a este magnífico elepé (de puro estilo hard rock con clara influencia glam rock), Slade logró situarse como una de las bandas más laureadas de la Inglaterra post-beatle y de otros países del mundo.
Slade, junto a otras bandas insignes como T. Rex, fueron los grandes héroes y uno de los mayores fenómenos musicales de los años 70. Obtuvieron varios Nº 1 consecutivos de éxito abrumador en el Reino Unido, casi equiparable a la época dorada de los Beatles, en el primer lustro de la década de los setenta.
Originarios de Wolverhampton (localidad ubicada en el centro geográfico de Inglaterra, muy cerca de Birmingham), Slade está integrado por Noddy Holder (voz solista, guitarra), Dave Hill (guitarra y voz), Jim Lea (bajo y voz) y Don Powell (batería). Destacaremos que esta legendaria agrupación ya se había formado a finales de los 60 bajo otros nombres como “The ´N Beetweens” o “Ambrose Slade”, pero sin apenas repercusión.
Y su oportunidad llegaría en 1971, de la mano del mítico Chas Chandler, ex miembro de The Animals que los descubre para el gran público, al igual que años antes lo hiciera con Jimi Hendrix.
Centrándonos en el álbum, tercero en su discografía, lo produjo Chas Chandler y fue grabado los días 19, 20 y 21 de octubre de 1971 en el Command Theatre Studio de Londres, en el que reflejaron sus fantásticas actuaciones en directo. Finalmente se publicó en marzo de 1972 y aunque no llegó al número uno, si se consolidó como uno de sus discos más emblemáticos.
Incluyendo siete electrizantes pistas, dentro del LP nos encontraremos con temas de cosecha propia y otras memorables versiones como el “Hear Me Calling” de los Ten Years After o un magistral “Darling Be home Soon” de John Sebastian y sus Lovin` Spoonful. Mencionaremos que esta última canción, siempre nos quedará en el recuerdo como uno de los momentos más divertidos de la historia de la música rock, cuando a Noddy Holder se le escapa un gran eructo.
Otras pistas sencillamente espectaculares son un enérgico Born To Be Wild de Steppenwolf y el “Get Down With It” de Bobby Marchan, auténtico rock and roll y uno de sus himnos en directo, impregnado por la fuerza vocal de Noddy Holder, que parece llegar al histrionismo.
El resto de temas son propios y al igual que en las versiones, la banda nos deja cortes extraordinarios como “In Like A Shot From My Gun” o “Know Who You Are”, – en dónde curiosamente un desconocido del público toca la pandereta – y un excelente rock and roll titulado “Keep On Rocking”, simulando el Tutti – Frutti de Little Richard.
En la actualidad este álbum es un ejemplo de coleccionismo, en el que resalta su portada color rojo intenso, obra de Chris Walter. En su interior alberga un dibujo, que resultó ganador de un concurso que el diario The Sun organizó para la edición inglesa del álbum.
Slade fue una banda de especialistas del directo, con cierta lírica y vocabulario callejero, que llegaba en ocasiones, a ser grosero. Cometían deliberadas faltas de ortografía en los títulos de sus canciones y siempre serán recordados por su peculiar vestimenta y espléndida música.
La energía con la que perpetraban todas y cada una de sus canciones, mantenía al público totalmente enfervorizado, produciéndose una gran simbiosis entre ambas partes, como se puede comprobar en este álbum. Slade, ostentó el privilegio compartido de ser pioneros del glam rock, influenciando a formaciones posteriores como Kiss o Sex Pistols entre otros.

HIs last job was working at Area 51 with the aliens who he discovered were actually the fallen angels of the Bible. He was good friends with Stew Webb and spilled his guts on several interviews with him while he was under heavy attack by microwave weapons by the government. They eventually killed Ed not too long after these interviews. Be patient with Ed, he had to talk slower than normal in these interviews because of damage to his brain by the microwave weapons.
