DRAMATIC footage has captured the moment a massive hailstorm turned a normally dry desert into a raging river of churning ice.

The video, taken in Saudi Arabia, shows extreme weather conditions smashing the area with hail stones the size of golf balls.

Chunks of ice can be seen falling before a river of hail sweeps through a valley at horrifying speed.

Local meteorologists had predicted eight years of rain in just two days over the usually dry region.

The Mirror reports that 19 people have been killed in the area since the storms started last week.

The video has been viewed close to 50,000 times since being uploaded to LiveLeak.
