HOMES have been ripped apart and roads flooded as a giant weather system hammers Australia - and it’s not done with us yet.

The wild weather is being generated by two broad low pressure troughs, one that runs nearly the entire length of the east coast and the other in Western Australia.

Both systems have already delivered heavy showers and thunderstorms, with the east coast copping the worst of it yesterday resulting in property damage and flooding.

The SES were called out to hundreds of jobs in NSW, Victoria and Queensland as winds of up to 120km/h lashed towns and cities.

Despite a slight break in the weather today, the conditions will deteriorate from tomorrow with more storms and heavy rain on the way. Here’s how it’s looking at your place.

After an afternoon and night of widespread storms, NSW and the ACT will have a brief respite from the wild weather before mother nature unleashes her fury again from midweek.

The low pressure trough across WA will move into the region late tomorrow bringing widespread heavy rain and likely storms.

Rainfall totals greater that 100mm are possible by the end of the week.

Sydney can expect a few showers today and tomorrow before heavy rain develops on Wednesday, with the weather bureau predicting up to 35mm of rain.

Windy conditions will persist into Thursday and Friday with thunderstorms likely.

On the upside, it won’t be cold with humid tropical air keeping the temps in the mid 20s.

Victoria

Victorians will also get a break from the bad weather today after severe storms moved across much of the state yesterday.

The low pressure trough in WA will move in affecting most of the state from late Tuesday causing an increase in showers and storms.

Humid tropical winds will keep temperatures pretty warm, bringing heavy rain to northern and western districts, with falls of 30mm or greater possible on Wednesday.

The capital can expect a mostly sunny day for Melbourne Cup Day, before the rain sets in on Wednesday, with thunderstorms continuing until Friday.

Temperatures will remain in the mid 20s.

South Australia

Residents in South Australia will cop a drenching from later today as the weather system moves in from the west.

The entire state is forecast to see heavy rain and possible storms throughout Tuesday and Wednesday before clearing on Thursday.

Many towns are expecting their best rainfall in months, with falls up to 80mm likely before the end of the week.

Adelaide will see showers develop tonight, before turning to rain early tomorrow with possible storms.

The rain will persist into Wednesday with possible heavy falls and storms.

Up to 60mm of rain could fall in the capital.

Drought-stricken parts of the state are celebrating after weekend storms dumped a record amount of rain, up to 100mm in some parts, and there’s more on the way.

The low pressure trough will move in from the west during the week bringing another spell of unstable weather with showers and storms for the south east and inland areas.

Thunderstorms are possible over the southern half of Queensland everyday until Friday, but falls are not expected to be as heavy as those in NSW and Victoria.

Brisbane could see a late storm today, and then again from Thursday through to Sunday.

Temperatures will remain in the low to mid 30s.

Western Australia

Much of southern WA saw stormy conditions throughout yesterday afternoon and overnight as an unstable air mass moved in from the Indian Ocean.

Some areas recorded their best rainfall figures in months with some Perth suburbs coping close to 50mm.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for southern areas but has now been cancelled as the system moves east into the NT and SA.

There is still the risk of isolated storms later in the week, but the worst of the weather is over.

Perth residents can expect morning rain to clear today, with sunny conditions expected until late Thursday when showers and possible storms redevelop.

Temperatures will be mild in the mid 20s.

Northern Territory

NT residents can expect to see hot and humid conditions to continue with showers and storms forecast for the entire state.

Southern areas are likely to see the worst of it with temperature into the 40s with gusty thunderstorms developing and persist into tomorrow.

Alice Springs is heading for a top of 40 today, with a gusty storm later.

Tasmania

Possible snow today

Tasmanians can expect below average temperatures today and tomorrow under the influence of a cold front that’s moving in from the south.

November snow is possible on Hobart’s Mount Wellington today, with conditions warming up by Wednesday, reaching the mid 20s by Sunday.

Hobart is heading for a chilly top of 13.

Tasmania looks to be the only state not to see thunderstorms this week.
