IKEA is urgently recalling a children’s bat costume due to strangulation fears.
The Swedish retailer is recalling the Lattjo Bat Cape after reports three children have received marks and scratches on the neck.
The cape got stuck and the fastening “did not detach easily enough from the neck of the children”, Ikea said in a statement.
“No injuries which required medical treatment have been reported, but due to the risk of strangulation or injuries to the neck, Ikea takes precautionary measures and recalls the product,” it said.
In Australia more than 1400 have been sold since the cape went on sale in November.
Ikea said it is “not willing to risk children’s safety” and is urging all customers who have the cape to “immediately stop children from playing with it” and to bring it back to any Ikea store for a full refund.
The Lattjo Bat Cape is the latest in a string of recalls for the Swedish retailer. In February two popular brands of ceiling lamps were recalled after reports of falling glass injuring people.
Last year, the deaths of two toddlers by falling chests of drawers forced Ikea to issue free wall anchor repair kits for millions of units.
