DRAMATIC CCTV footage has emerged of the moment an escalator suddenly changed direction, causing a huge human pile-up.
The video shows a large crowd of subway commuters piling onto the escalator in the city of Ningbo, in China’s Zhejiang Province.
Local media outlets are reporting that 10 people were taken to hospital, with five being declared badly injured in the freak accident.

In the clip, the escalator can be seen randomly reversing and picking up speed, sending people flying to the ground.
After about 10 seconds it appears that the emergency stop kicks in and the escalator stops moving.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the unusual accident.
Last October a toddler was killed in the Chinese city of Chongqing after becoming stuck under an escalator handrail at a train station.
