Massale vechtpartij bij hotel Energieweg Rotterdam http://www.mediatv.nl/nieuws/16804/ Bij een hotel aan de Energieweg in Rotterdam Blijdorp heeft er donderdagavond een massale vechtpartij plaatsgevonden tussen twee rivaliserende motorbendes. Leden van de Hells Angels en de Mongols gingen met elkaar op de vuist in de lobby van het hotel. De vechtpartij zette zich buiten voort, de groep stoof op een moment uiteen. Door omstanders zouden er ook meerdere vuurwapens gezien zijn. Er zijn personen gewond geraakt. De meesten zijn licht gewond. Eén persoon is zwaar gewond. De politie kon in de lobby meerdere verdachten aanhouden en in het Roel Langerakpark werd nog een verdachte aangehouden. De politie heeft waarschuwingsschoten gelost ten tijde van een aanhouding. Omdat het niet bekend was of er nog personen met vuurwapens aanwezig waren werd het Arrestatieteam ingezet om het hotel te doorzoeken. Er is een vuurwapen en een mes aangetroffen, een persoon was zwaargewond. De gasten en eters in het hotel zijn een naburig fitnesscentrum in gevlucht. Er zijn op dit moment 23 personen aangehouden. Sporenonderzoek Toen er rond 23.30 uur de zekerheid was dat zich in en rondom het hotel geen motorclubleden meer bevonden konden gasten terug naar hun kamer en begon het sporenonderzoek in het hotel en buitenruimte. Een groot aantal hulzen, een mes en vuurwapen is in beslag genomen. Het sporenonderzoek is deze vrijdag nog altijd bezig. De 23 aangehouden OMG-leden zitten vast voor openlijke geweldpleging. Ze komen uit Schiedam, IJmuiden Rotterdam, Barendrecht, Capelle aan den IJssel, Haarlem , Berkenwoude, Oostrum, Alkmaar, Amsterdam, Baarn en Julianadorp. Van enkele anderen is de identiteit nog niet vastgesteld. Het waarom is door de leden zelf wederom duidelijk gemaakt: de aanpak van OMG's heeft een hoge prioriteit voor de politie, gemeente en Openbaar Ministerie. Leden zijn op grote schaal betrokken bij criminele en/of ondermijnende activiteiten op het gebied van onder meer wapens, drugs en intimidatie. Complimenten Politiechef Frank Paauw van de eenheid Rotterdam: “Complimenten aan de verschillende diensten zoals DSI, Marechaussee, mijn dienders en natuurlijk ook het ambulancepersoneel gisteravond en deze vrijdag. Het is goed dat er al twintig verdachten zijn aangehouden en er zullen er meer volgen. Wij gaan ontleden wie dit zijn. De mannen zijn aangehouden voor openlijke geweldpleging. We verwachten niet direct dat ze onderling aangifte doen, maar daarmee stopt dit onderzoek voor de politie dus niet.” Camera: Video Duivestein

Rotterdam has the largest port in Europe. The Market Hall is a residential- and office building with a market hall underneath, located in Rotterdam. The building was opened on October 1, 2014. Besides the large market hall, the complex houses 228 apartments, 4600 m2 retail space, 1600 m2 horeca and an underground 4-storey parking garage with a capacity of 1200+ cars. The inside of the building is painted with a 11.000 m2 artwork of Arno Coenen, named 'Hoorn des Overvloeds'. The artwork shows strongly enlarged fruits, vegetables, seeds, fish, flowers and insects. The Erasmus Bridge is a combined cable-stayed and bascule bridge in the centre of Rotterdam, connecting the north and south parts of this city, second largest in the Netherlands. The southernmost span of the bridge has an 89-metre-long (292 ft) bascule bridge for ships that cannot pass under the bridge. The bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest in Western Europe and has the largest panel of its type in the world. Cube houses are a set of 40 innovative houses built in Rotterdam, designed by architect Piet Blom. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest. As residents are disturbed so often by curious passers-by, one owner decided to open a "show cube", which is furnished as a normal house, and is making a living out of it. The houses contain three floors. The walls and windows are angled at 54.7 degrees. The total area of the apartment is around 100 square meters, but around a quarter of the space is unusable because of the walls that are under the angled ceilings. March 11, 2015

The port's main activities are petrochemical industries and general cargo handling and transshipment. The harbour functions as an important transit point for bulk materials and between the European continent and overseas. From Rotterdam goods are transported by ship, river barge, train or road. In 2007, the Betuweroute, a new fast freight railway from Rotterdam to Germany, was completed. Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands and one of the largest ports in the world. Starting as a dam constructed in 1270 on the Rotte River, Rotterdam has grown into a major international commercial centre. Its strategic location at the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta on the North Sea and at the heart of a massive rail, road, air and inland waterway distribution system extending throughout Europe is the reason that Rotterdam is often called the "Gateway to Europe". In the province of South Holland, Rotterdam is in the west of Netherlands and the south of the Randstad. The population of the city was 616,250 on February 1, 2012. The population of the greater Rotterdam area, called "Rotterdam-Rijnmond" or just "Rijnmond", is approximately 1.3 million. The combined urban area of Rotterdam and The Hague is the 206th largest urban area in the world. One of Europe's most vibrant, multicultural cities, Rotterdam is known for its university (Erasmus), cutting-edge architecture, lively cultural life, striking riverside setting and maritime heritage. It is also known for the Rotterdam Blitz. The largest port in Europe and one of the busiest ports in the world, the port of Rotterdam was the world's busiest port from 1962 to 2004, when it was surpassed by Shanghai. Rotterdam's commercial and strategic importance is based on its location near the mouth of the Nieuwe Maas (New Meuse), a channel in the delta formed by the Rhine and Meuse on the North Sea. These rivers lead directly into the centre of Europe, including the industrial Ruhr region. 'Rotterdam' is divided into a northern and a southern part by the river Nieuwe Maas, connected by (from west to east): the Beneluxtunnel; the Maastunnel; the Erasmusbrug ('Erasmus Bridge'); a subway tunnel; the Willemsspoortunnel ('Willems railway tunnel'); the Willemsbrug ('Willems Bridge'); the Koninginnebrug ('Queen's Bridge'); and the Van Brienenoordbrug ('Van Brienenoord Bridge'). The former railway lift bridge De Hef ('the Lift') is preserved as a monument in lifted position between the Noordereiland ('North Island') and the south of Rotterdam. The city centre is located on the northern bank of the Nieuwe Maas, although recent urban development has extended the center to parts of southern Rotterdam known as De Kop van Zuid ('the Head of South', i.e. the northern part of southern Rotterdam). From its inland core, Rotterdam reaches the North Sea by a swathe of predominantly harbour area. Built mostly behind dikes, large parts of the Rotterdam are below sea level. For instance, the Prins Alexander Polder in the northeast of Rotterdam extends 6 metres (20 ft) below sea level, or rather below Normal Amsterdams Peil (NAP) or 'Amsterdam Ordnance Datum'. The lowest point in the Netherlands (6.76 metres (22.2 ft) below NAP) is situated just to the east of Rotterdam, in the municipality of Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel. The Rotte river no longer joins the Nieuwe Maas directly. Since the early 1980s, when the construction of Rotterdam's second subway line interfered with the Rotte's course, its waters have been pumped through a pipe into the Nieuwe Maas via the Boerengat. Rotterdam is in the south of the Randstad. Having a population of 7.1 million, the Randstad is the sixth-largest metropolitan area in Europe (after Moscow, London, the Ruhr Area, Istanbul, and Paris). The southern part of the Randstad (i.e. the part located in the Province of South Holland) is called the "South Wing" (Zuidvleugel). Including Leiden, The Hague, Zoetermeer, Delft, Vlaardingen, Schiedam, Capelle aan den IJssel, Spijkenisse and Dordrecht, the Zuidvleugel has a population of around 3 million. At the heart of the Zuidvleugel are the conurbations surrounding The Hague and Rotterdam. They are close enough to be almost a single conurbation with a population of about 2.5 million.
