Macedonian front (1915-1918) Македонскиот фронт, Прва светска војна, Makedonski front 1 WW1 документарен филм - прв дел World war 1 The Macedonian Front (or Salonika front) resulted from an attempt by the Allied Powers to aid Serbia, in the autumn of 1915, against the combined attack of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria. The expedition came too late and in insufficient force to prevent the fall of Serbia, and was complicated by the internal political crisis in Greece (the "National Schism"). Eventually, a stable front was established, running from the Albanian Adriatic coast to the Struma River, pitting a multinational Allied force against the Central Powers. The Macedonian Front remained quite stable, despite local actions, until the great Allied offensive in September 1918, which resulted in the capitulation of Bulgaria and the liberation of Serbia. Austria-Hungary had attacked Serbia in August 1914, but had failed to overcome Serbian resistance. After the entry of the Ottoman Empire into the war on the side of the Central Powers, the decisive factor was the position of Bulgaria. Bulgaria occupied a strategically important position on the Serbian flank, and its intervention on either side would swing the balance decisively. Bulgaria and Serbia, however, had fought two wars in the previous 30 years, the first in 1885 (see Serbo-Bulgarian War for details), the second in 1913 (see the Second Balkan War for details). The outcome of the latter had been humiliating to Bulgaria, and there was a widespread feeling in the Bulgarian government and people that Serbia had stolen land which was rightfully Bulgarian. While the Allies could only offer small territorial concessions from Serbia and (as yet neutral) Greece, the Central Powers' promises were far more enticing, as they offered to give most of the land Bulgaria claimed. When the Allied defeat at the Battle of Gallipoli and the Russian defeat at Gorlice-Tarnów demonstrated the Central Powers' strength, King Ferdinand signed a treaty with Germany, and on September 21, 1915 Bulgaria began mobilizing for war. Фронтот се протега од демаркационата линија кај Охрид (меѓу градот и манастирот Свети Наум), преку планината Галичица, Преспанското Езеро, сртовите на планините Баба, Ниџе (Кајмакчалан) и Беласица, долж реката Места се до Орфанскиот залив во Егејското Море. Јужно од оваа линија се стационирани силите на Антантата (француски, британски, српски, а подоцна и италијански и грчки единици), а северно од неа се групите на Централните сили (бугарски, германски и австро-унгарски единици). По влегувањето на Бугарија во Првата светска војна на страната на Централните сили, нејзината Втора армија есента 1915 година ги зазема македонските градови Куманово, Штип, Велес и Скопје. Пролетта 1916 година потпомогната од своите германски и австро-унгарски сојузници, ја освојува Рупелската Теснина и, навлегувајќи во источниот дел на Егејска Македонија, ги зазема градовите Сер, Драма и Кавала. Кон средината на август истата година бугарските сили, предводени од генерал Климент Бојаџиев ги разбиваат трупите на Антантата на просторот Добро Поле - Баница - Лерин и продирајќи кон Костур го заземаат Лерин со околните населби.
