Stretched over miles and miles of water is Oresund Bridge.
This cable-stayed bridge not only links Sweden and Denmark but also connects many parts of Western and Central Europe.
By the year 1995, the construction of the bridge had begun and while it was completed in 1999, it was not until 2000 that the bridge was officially opened.
To commemorate this occasion the Danish Queen and the Swedish King hosted the celebrations and the ceremony.
This enduring structure has been built in one the immensely popular architectural style of building bridges, the Dissing+Weitling style.
The bridge offers easy access with several toll pass options to its approximate 60,000 daily users for whom it's a regular means of transportation.

Travel video about destination Copenhagen in Denmark.
Copenhagen is the capital of the Kingdom of Denmark and is situated on the east coast of Sæland Island on the Öresund, the link between the North Sea and the Baltic. It is a European capital of culture, home country of the Little Mermaid and a successful combination of Scandinavian elegance and Middle-European joie de vivre.
In 1167, Bishop Absalon of Roskilde was granted by King Valdemar I an area of land on Öresund, to which the small settlement of Havn also belonged. For the protection of both fishermen and traders, he built a fortress and the settlement developed into Kobenhavn, the Harbor of Merchants. Copenhagen was born and the fortress was continuously enlarged until in 1376, a castle was built on its foundation.
The huge Christiansborg Palace extends across the larger part of Slotsholmen, Castle Island and it has been Denmark's power base for hundreds of years. The huge statue in the square features King Frederik VII on horseback, a monarch known in Danish history as the 'King of Democracy'.
Each day, crowds of people make for Copenhagen's world famous landmark, The Little Mermaid, created by artist Edvard Erikson. Tiny and elegant and seated on a stone, she gazes yearningly across the sea oblivious to the city's hustle and bustle.
The Rundetårn is an unusual building that was built at the command of the Renaissance king, Christian IV. Its circular tower is 36 metres high and has a diameter of 15 metres. In place of a conventional stairway, royal architects Hans Van Steenwinkel constructed a winding 209 metre long ramp, thus the somewhat rotund king was able to travel without difficulty by carriage to the astrological observatory at the top!
Copenhagen is a friendly metropolis in which tolerance and openness are the order of the day, a 'City on the Sea' that fascinates all who experience it.

Welcome to Copenhagen, Denmark! This stunning place is also called “The City of Spires,” and after arriving here, you’ll see why.
A tour of Copenhagen reveals cobblestone streets, beautiful canals, and many 16th and 17th-century buildings crowned by the aforementioned spires. Don’t let the archaic exterior of these buildings fool you; they house very modern restaurants, theaters, and shops, and you can easily spend days sampling seafood and coffees at the various eateries.
One of Copenhagen’s most beloved attractions is Tivoli Gardens, a theme park that dates back to 1843. Watch a pantomime, ride one of the oldest roller coasters, or just enjoy a trip in a dragon boat. After a few hours at Tivoli Gardens, continue your Copenhagen sightseeing in the city proper. Copenhagen is like something out of a fairy tale, full of multicolored houses and boats that tie up at Copenhagen’s wharves.
Next, rent a bike. With almost 250 miles of bicycle lanes, getting around two wheels is a healthy, athletic way to get to know the city. Ride your bike to Nyhavn, a waterfront district that dates back to the 17th century. This is the spot to make friends at the local pubs, or to simply sit and watch the boats go back and forth over the waters of the Oresund. Nyhavn is also home to “The Little Mermaid,” a statue fashioned after the titular character in the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Make sure you bring your camera, as the mermaid is a popular place for a photo op.

The Öresund or Øresund Bridge (Danish: Øresundsbroen, Swedish: Öresundsbron, joint hybrid name: Øresundsbron) is a double-track railway and dual carriageway bridge across the Øresund strait between Scania (southernmost Sweden) and Denmark. The bridge runs nearly 8 kilometres (5 miles) from the Swedish coast to the artificial island of Peberholm, which lies in the middle of the strait. The crossing of the strait is completed by a 4 km (2.5-mile) underwater tunnel, called the Drogden Tunnel, from Peberholm to the Danish island of Amager. The Øresund Bridge is the bridge that connects Amager and Oresund in Denmark (on the island Zealand) with Skane, Sweden, in a total length of just over 10 miles (16,4 km). This is the road connection between the metropolitan areas of Copenhagen and Malmo.
Perfect for travelers wanting a quick connection between Sweden and Denmark without flying, the Øresund Bridge now carries more than 60,000 travelers daily.
The Øresund Bridge was inaugurated in July 2000.
In May 2003 the Øresund Bridge won the IABSE Outstanding Structure Award. The judges commended the project for its innovative planning, design and construction management as well as its compliance with the time schedule, budget and tough environmental requirements.
The whole project consisted of the construction of a bridge, a tunnel and an artificial island between the two countries that stretched 16.4km.
The Øresund Bridge is composed of a high bridge over the Flintrännan navigation channel and two approach bridges. The high bridge has the longest cable-stayed main span in the world (490m) for both road and rail traffic.
The bridge two-level superstructure is fabricated from steel and concrete.
The western part of the Øresund Link is a 4km-long tunnel between the artificial island of Peberholm and the artificial peninsula at Kastrup.
The artificial island of Peberholm was built in order to transfer the traffic from the immersed tunnel up onto the approach bridge. Peberholm is approx. 4km long and mainly made up of dredged material from the Øresund seabed. A total of 1.6 million m³ of stone and 7.5 million m³ of sand and dredged material were required for its completion.

Copenhagen Travel Guide - Copenhagen (Danish: København) is the capital city of Denmark and forms the moderate conurbation that one million Danes call home. This "friendly old girl of a town" is big enough to form a small Danish 'metropolis', with shopping, culture and nightlife par excellence, yet small enough still to feel intimate and be safe. Although mixed in its urban scene, the city is easy to navigate. Overlooking the Øresund Strait, with neighbouring Sweden just minutes away, Copenhagen serves as a cultural and geographic link between mainland Europe and Scandinavia. Copenhagen is where old fairy tales blend with flashy new architecture and world-class design; where warm jazz mixes with crisp electronica from Copenhagen's basements. You could feel you've seen all of Copenhagen in one day, but further exploration will have you discovering more for months.

When it opened in July 2000, the Øresund Bridge that links Denmark and Sweden had to meet several requirements: the bridge had to provide access for both road and rail travel across the Øresund Strait without interfering with airplane traffic at the nearby Copenhagen Airport, while also allowing ship traffic to flow through the strait uninterrupted.
The answer? A kind of hybrid between a bridge and a tunnel, with a man-made artificial island that connects the two. Today it's the longest combination road and rail bridge anywhere in Europe, and allows travelers to pass between the two countries usually without passport inspections.

Take a tour of Tilsandede Kirke in Skagen, Denmark -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
At first glance, the Tilsandede Kirke, located in Skagen, Denmark, isn't much to look at.
However, the small, white tower that can be seen is only one part of the whole church.
The rest of the church remains buried under the earth, hence the name, which means Sand-Buried Church.
The Tilsandede Kirke closed in 1795 after sandy winds continuously built up dunes around the church.
Locals used the stones from several parts of the church for other buildings in the area.
After much research, the location of the nave and vestry was discovered and marked with stakes for visitors.

Copenhagen (Danish: København) [1] is the capital of Denmark and what a million Danes call home. This "friendly old girl of a town" is big enough to be a metropolis with shopping, culture and nightlife par excellence, yet still small enough to be intimate, safe and easy to navigate. Overlooking the Øresund strait with Sweden just minutes away, it is a cultural and geographic link between mainland Europe and Scandinavia. This is where old fairy tales blend with flashy new architecture and world-class design; where warm jazz mixes with cold electronica from Copenhagen's basements. You'll feel you've seen it all in a day, but could keep on discovering more for months.
See in Copenhagen, Denmark
===========================
Entrance to most museums is free once a week, mainly on Wednesdays. You can always count on the principal attractions to be well signed in English and German and for these places to be generally geared towards tourists. A good tip to see whether a smaller museum caters to non-Danish speakers, is to check whether the website has an English section. If it does, this usually means the museum has at least some English information throughout its exhibitions. Of course if you have some interest in a particular subject, such museums can be interesting even if you don't understand the sign-postings. As Danes are usually fairly fluent in English, you can always try to ask staff if they could give you a brief tour.
Art
==
If you are into the arts Copenhagen has a lot to offer and the natural starting point is a visit to the Danish National Gallery (Statens Museum for Kunst, free entry, complementary lockers, closed on Mondays) where you can feast your eyes on blockbusters from the likes of Rembrandt, Picasso, and Matisse. There are a number of paintings by Danish artists from the "Golden Age." For more classical art, visit Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (adult 75 kr, 20 kr or €2 deposit for lockers). In addition to works by masters like Picasso, Leger, and Matisse, this spectacular building houses a large collection of classical statues and sculptures. The winter garden here is a beautiful place to rest your legs on a rainy day. Both of these museums are conveniently located in the centre, or Indre By area. Thorvaldsens Museum is dedicated to the 19th-century sculptor and the art of his days. He is buried in the courtyard. It has some interesting, colourful and unique interiors, dating from around 1844, by the architect M.G. Bindesbøll and his team. Don´t forget the lovely collection of paintings and the archaeological items and his preserved library upstairs. The museum is free on Wednesdays. Davids Samling (The David Collection) is an internationally renowned collection of Islamic art, with a bit of Danish treasures too. The entrance is free.
If you are hungry for even more classic art exhibitions, an excursion north of Copenhagen to the beautiful Ordrupgaard offers you a chance to enjoy Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Gauguin. There are several other options for classical paintings but if you are ready for a change, head south to the Arken Museum of Modern Art for a world class exhibition of contemporary art, mostly Scandinavian, as well as hugely popular temporary exhibitions. However the arguably best and most visited museum in Denmark is the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art located in northern Zealand with a panoramic view across the Øresund. The museum frames the sculpture park facing the sea and the interaction between art, nature and the museum architecture is quite unique. Louisiana is an international museum with a considerable collection of modern art, and hugely popular temporary exhibitions.
If you want to enjoy some local color on an art tour, The Hirschsprung Collection in Østerbro features the top-of-the-pops of Danish artists, with a particular focus on the Skagen painters. For something quintessentially Danish, breeze through the wonderfully quirky sketches of the much-loved local personality Storm P at the aptly named Storm P museum on Frederiksberg.

Take a tour of 25th of April Bridge in Lisbon, Portugal - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The 25th of April Bridge was inaugurated in August of 1966, connecting Portugal's capital of Lisbon to the municipality of Almada.
At the time of its completion, its span over the Tejo River made it not only the largest bridge outside the U.S., but the fifth largest suspension bridge in the world as well.
This 1.5 mile long structure of Portugal, once known as Salazas Bridge, is now the world's 20th-longest suspension bridge.
It was constructed by the American Bridge Company, which also built San Francisco's Bay Bridge.
The name 25th of April Bridge was adopted after the successful revolution that took place against the dictator Salazar in 1974.
Its distinct paint color makes it reminiscent of the famed Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

It is situated on the Hicacos Peninsula, between the Bay of Cárdenas and the Straits of Florida, some 140 km east of Havana, at the eastern end of the Via Blanca highway. The peninsula is only 1.2 km wide at its widest point and is separated from the island of Cuba by the Kawama Channel. This spit of land however extends more than 20 kilometers from the mainland in a northeasterly direction and its tip, Punta Hicacos, is the northernmost point of the island of Cuba. At the northeastern end of the peninsula there is a nature reserve with virgin forests and beaches. The Hicacos Point Natural Park is a 3.12 km2 (1.20 sq. mi) ecological preserve established in 1974. It contains the 250 m (820 ft) long Cave of Ambrosio, Mangón Lake (home to 31 species of birds and 24 species of reptiles) and the ruins of the La Calavera (The Skull) Salt Works (one of the first salt works to be constructed by the Spanish in the New World).[3] The cays developed off shore, such as Cayo Piedras and Cayo Cruz del Padre are the westernmost part of the Sabana-Camaguey Archipelago,Read More : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varadero
