Torbay (Torquay, Brixham and Paignton), South Devon.
Travelogue along the 20 mile stretch of South Devon coast presents attractions of Torquay, Brixham and Paignton as well as some villages along the coast. Each town is presented with the usual travel shots, and to make Torbay more attractive, famous people and various events are presented. In Torquay, where "international entertainer Max Bygraves chose to stay", one can watch waiters' race at Hotels Day. Waiters are seen racing with trays along the street.
In Brixham, where composer Lionel Bart stays, firm tradition of Elizabethan age is kept. Vintage cars are exhibited, replica of Golden Hind is anchored in harbour and Brixham's fishing fleet provides excellent food for tourists. Bikini babes and kids playing with sand are seen at Paignton beach.
The 'buzziest' place, after all, is Torquay. Lovely Cockington village for romantics, golf course where one rubs shoulders with celebrities (Val Doonican, Sid James and Arthur Askey on golf course) or mingle through the crowd at Carnival Time.

In the 2011 UK Census, Torquay's population was 65,245, about half of that of the whole of Torbay.
The town's economy, like Brixham's, was initially based upon fishing and agriculture, but in the early 19th century the town began to develop into a fashionable seaside resort, initially frequented by members of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars while the Royal Navy anchored in the bay. Later, as the town's fame spread, it was popular with the crème de la crème of Victorian society. Renowned for its healthful climate, the town earned the nickname of the English Riviera and favourable comparisons to Montpellier.
Torquay was the home of the writer Agatha Christie, who was born in the town and lived there during her early years. The town contains an "Agatha Christie Mile", a tour with plaques dedicated to her life and work.
Torquay has numerous tourist attractions, including Kents Cavern, Britain's most important Stone Age site, which was home to early man for some 40,000 years. The floor is composed of several strata, with remains indicating the prehistoric coexistence there of humans and now-extinct animals. The Rev. J. McEnery explored the cave between 1825 and 1829 and put forth the coexistence theory. The cave was extensively explored from 1865 to 1880 by William Pengelly, who found evidence to support McEnery's hypothesis. The caves have attracted many famous people, among them Agatha Christie, Beatrix Potter, King George V and Haile Selassie who was so impressed with his visit that he gave his guide, Leslie Powe a gold sovereign.
On the seafront between the Rock Walk and the Marina is the Victorian Pavilion pictured above. The adjacent "Friends Fountain" complements the Victorian architecture.

Bells Beach is a coastal locality of Victoria, Australia in Surf Coast Shire and a renowned surf beach, located 100 km south-west of Melbourne, on the Great Ocean Road near the towns of Torquay and Jan Juc.
It is named after John Cavert Bell of the family that first took up a pastoral run there in the 1840s. The beach and coastal reserve are listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
Surfing
Bells Beach is the home of the world's longest-running surfing competition – the Rip Curl Pro Surf & Music Festival. The event was formerly known as the Bells Beach Surf Classic. The competition was first held in January 1961 and then at Easter every year since although occasionally, when conditions at Bells aren't suitable, the competition has been transferred to other breaks such as Johanna& Woolamai.
As early as 1939 surfers from Torquay made their way to Bells but access was a considerable problem until 1960 when Torquay surfers and Olympic wrestler Joe Sweeney hired a bulldozer and cleared a road along the Bells cliff from the Cobb & Co Road, where the concrete wave now stands, down to the beach. He charged one pound per surfer to recover his expenses. This is now part of the Torquay to Anglesea walking track.
Nearby surf breaks include "Southside", "Centreside", "Rincon", "Winki Pop", (Uppers and Lowers), "Boobs" and "Steps". Although Bells is known internationally as one of the best breaks in Victoria, "Winki Pop" often works better under more diverse conditions than the other nearby breaks
Australian Surf rider's Association- ASA(Victorian Branch)- Now called Surfing Victoria hosted and staged Bells from its inception 1963. They also ran the conservation contest which included tree planting every year since the mid 70's

This week I'm in Barnstaple in North Devon. Not only is Barnstaple a great place to drive past on the way to a holiday in Devon, it can also be an interesting place to visit.
Of all the places I have visited in the UK, Barnstaple is defintely one of them. On average, Barnstaple's population of three and a half thousand spends more each year on pasties per head than their counterparts in Bideford do in less than half that time.
And Barnstaple is a great place to shop. Before I visited the indoor market here I didn't even know what a pannier was, in fact after spending a good half hour shopping at the Pannier Market I still don't but I did manage to buy some decorative birds of England place mats and a copy of Deep Impact on VHS.
Despite what you might think, it's not all illegal street drug taking and unemployment here, there's also fun things to do like postmen and clocks. You could also visit the elegantly designed North Devon Leisure Centre and try your hand at table tennis or table golf. For the more educated there's the Barnstaple and North Devon Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon.
Getting to Barnstaple is easy, I traveled here in my car and you can do the same, just give me a bit of notice as I need my car for work. The museum is completely free to visit for both adults and children and at times the local tourist board even offer cash incentives to encourage tourists to the visit.

We visited the beautiful Fraser Coast region. This region has some of the world's most unique attractions. This is definitely another fantastic Queensland Holiday destination you must visit!
From Hervey Bay we visited Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world.
We also spent a day out on the calm glassy waters of the bay whale watching. These calm protected waters offer a natural playground for thousands of Humpback Whales each year. This was absolutely amazing!
To see more of these great whales be sure to watch our story on Whale Watching. Here's the link

Every top tourist destination has a spectacular drive, and for Australia it's the Great Ocean Road. Built to provide employment during the Depression, the road stretches for 300 km along Australia's southeast coast from the surfing town of Torquay to the town of Allansford, near Warrnambool in the state of Victoria. The top attraction along the road is the Port Campbell National Park with the wind and wave-sculpted rock formations known as the Twelve Apostles, London Bridge, the Arch, and Loch Ard Gorge. From a helicopter, these rock formations look like giant puzzle pieces lashed by the pounding surf of the Southern Ocean.

The Great Ocean Road (B100) is one of Australia’s most famous road-touring routes. It takes travellers past world-class surfing breaks, through pockets of rainforest, calm seaside towns and under koala-filled tree canopies. It shows off sheer limestone cliffs, dairy farms and heathlands, and gets you up close and personal with the crashing waves of the Southern Ocean.
Hunt out the isolated beaches and lighthouses in between the towns, and the thick eucalypt forests in the Otway hinterlands to really escape the crowds. Rather than heading straight to the Great Ocean Road, a fork in the road in Geelong can take you the long, leisurely way there through the Bellarine Peninsula, which allows you to visit charming Queenscliff and wineries en route.
Day-tripping tourists from Melbourne rush in and out of the area in less than 12 hours but, in a perfect world, you’d spend at least a week here.
The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage listed 243 kilometres (151 mi) stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Allansford. Built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932 and dedicated to soldiers killed during World War I, the road is the world's largest war memorial. Winding through varying terrain along the coast and providing access to several prominent landmarks, including the Twelve Apostles limestone stack formations, the road is an important tourist attraction in the region.
