Si Genaro

Si Genaro is a British musician who is mostly known for his appearances on BBC's The Voice UK in 2014 and 2015.

Born in 1971, Genaro grew up on the Isle of Wight, attending Cowes High School. He began his musical career as a harmonica player, busking in Ryde and Cowes. In his 20s he moved to Bournemouth and studied at music college, before going on to front regional bands such as Shapeshifter, Dubheart and The Genaro Project.

In 2009, Genaro supported UK number one charting pop singer David Essex on a UK tour and in 2012 he joined fellow Bournemouth musician and Voice contestant Ant Henson as vocalist and guitarist of psychedelic post-rock band Ever The Animal.

In January 2014, Si Genaro appeared on BBC 1 singing Men At Work's Down Under as part of the Reality television show The Voice UK. Despite not convincing any of the judges to turn their chairs and thus put him through he was back In February 2015 Genaro appeared in series 4 of The Voice singing Falling Slowly. As in 2014, none of the judges selected Genaro for their teams. He performed a rendition if his own song, 'When the Last Bird Flies'.

The Voice UK

The Voice UK is a British television talent show created by John de Mol and based on the concept The Voice of Holland. It began airing on BBC One on 24 March 2012. There are five different stages to the show: producers' auditions, blind auditions, battle phase, knockouts, and live shows. The winner receives £100,000 and a record deal with Universal Republic. There have been four winners to date: Leanne Mitchell, Andrea Begley, Jermain Jackman and Stevie McCrorie.

The show involves artists drawn from public auditions, and is part of The Voice franchise. It is produced by Wall to Wall as well as Dutch production company Talpa Productions.

The BBC won a "bidding war" with ITV, paying £22 million for the rights to broadcast the show in the UK for two years. ITV's Britain's Got Talent launched its sixth series on the same date of 24 March 2012. Many media outlets saw this move as a deliberate attempt by ITV to create a "TV ratings war" with the BBC.

In November 2015, the BBC announced that the fifth series of The Voice UK will be their last. That same month, ITV announced they had acquired the rights to air The Voice UK for three additional series, as well as plans for two series' of The Voice Kids and a spin-off series to air on ITV2, to begin airing in 2017.

Falling Slowly

"Falling Slowly" is a song in the indie folk and indie rock genres that was written, composed, and performed by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. The song is featured in the 2007 film Once, which starred Hansard and Irglová, and for which it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 80th Academy Awards. The song was also recorded by Hansard's band The Frames.

History

The song was written and composed while Once was in production. The film's director and screenwriter, John Carney, developed the script around songs which Hansard and Irglová had provided to him. In the movie, the duo play the song in Walton's music shop in Dublin, with Hansard on guitar and Irglová on piano. The couple performed it at gigs in various European venues over the next two years. Versions appeared in 2006 on two albums: The Cost, which Hansard's band The Frames recorded and released, and The Swell Season, an album on which Hansard and Irglová collaborated., and the song has been used also in the movie Beauty in Trouble. Human voice

The human voice consists of sound made by a human being using the vocal folds for talking, singing, laughing, crying, screaming etc. The human voice is specifically a part of human sound production in which the vocal folds (vocal cords) are the primary sound source. Generally speaking, the mechanism for generating the human voice can be subdivided into three parts; the lungs, the vocal folds within the larynx, and the articulators. The lung (the pump) must produce adequate airflow and air pressure to vibrate vocal folds (this air pressure is the fuel of the voice). The vocal folds (vocal cords) are a vibrating valve that chops up the airflow from the lungs into audible pulses that form the laryngeal sound source. The muscles of the larynx adjust the length and tension of the vocal folds to ‘fine-tune’ pitch and tone. The articulators (the parts of the vocal tract above the larynx consisting of tongue, palate, cheek, lips, etc.) articulate and filter the sound emanating from the larynx and to some degree can interact with the laryngeal airflow to strengthen it or weaken it as a sound source.
