The Guatemalan Supreme Court Friday ordered the release of four Belizean military officials who were allegedly caught on Guatemalan territory.
Their imprisonment fueled a century-old border dispute between the Central American neighbors and the four officials were freed shortly after.
Meanwhile, for those living in the disputed area, tensions are high.
Military surveillance is high on the border between Guatemala and Belize.
On Friday, the Guatemalan Supreme Court ordered the release of four Belizean military officials whose imprisonment re-ignited a century-old border dispute between the Central American neighbors.
The four were freed shortly after.
Three soldiers and a police officer from the Belize Defense Force were arrested on illegal weapons charges February 24, after they were found with machine guns and pistols in what Guatemalan officials say is the northernmost Guatemalan state of Peten.
The Guatemalan military says it has scientific proof the four were in Guatemalan territory.
Soldiers constantly patrol the area which has been a thorn in the side of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"Our activities here are due to the presence of the Belizean Armed Forces. Therefore for us, our mission is to carry out patrols in the territory which is common, in the territory which belongs to Belize and the territory which is ours."

But Belizean officials say their officers never crossed the border and were actually arrested in Belize's Toledo District.
The border dispute seems unlikely to end anytime soon.
Meanwhile, tensions between the two Central American countries remain high.

Many who live in the disputed area just don't know to which country they belong to.
An uneasy situation which could easily turn violent.

Until now, we still do not know anything because they say that everything here is theirs and we do not know. The problem is that they have come here to steal corn, to steal beans, to threaten people they have found working. It's a miracle they have not killed anybody here but they have come close to doing it."

The recent arrests mark the latest chapter in a nearly 150-year-old territorial dispute.
Guatemala once claimed the entire territory of Belize, but the Belize government discouraged any military action by the presence of a token British infantry and tank force.
Though Guatemala officially recognized Belize's borders in 1992, the disagreement was reignited in recent months by the deaths of two Guatemalans at the hands of border guards from Belize.
After the recent arrests became public, Belize immediately called off a round of scheduled peace talks with Guatemalan officials in Miami.
Supreme Court judges gave no explanation for their decision.

The last large scale British Army exercise has taken place in Belize. On Wednesday it was announced that the British Army training facility there, known as BATSUB, will be drawn down next year. Belize has been the home of the Army's jungle training for the last 16 years, but the Platoon Commanders Course will be the last big exercise for the foreseeable future. British Forces News reporter Charlotte Cross has had exclusive access to the troops on the final exercise.

The British Army Training Support Unit Belize (BATSUB) has been a hub for jungle warfare training for decades, but in 2011 it was scaled right down.
Just six personnel are based in the country now, but demand for training has recently started to increase, with members of 2nd Battalion, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment one of the most recent units to go there on exercise.
It is seen as one of the toughest places in which to train, and soldiers from the regiment have been spending a month living under the canopy adapting their tactics, live firing and learning survival skills.
Forces TV's Carla Prater followed the battalion on exercise to see the training opportunities on offer.

Belize
Belize (
i/bəˈliːz/) is a country on the eastern coast of Central America. It is the only country in Central America whose official language is English, though Belizean Creole (Kriol) and Spanish are also commonly spoken. Belize is bordered on the north by Mexico, on the south and west by Guatemala, and on the east by the Caribbean Sea. Its mainland is about 290 km (180 mi) long and 110 km (68 mi) wide.

Belize's abundance of terrestrial and marine species and its diversity of ecosystems give it a key place in the globally significant Mesoamerican Biological Corridor.

RAF Belize
RAF Belize, also known as BATSUB (British Army Training Support Unit Belize), supported training in the jungles and plains of Belize, it gave British troops some of the most testing exercises in the world with access to 5,000 square miles of primary jungle provided for free by the Belize government. It also supported the training of the Belize Defence Force. It was located next to Belize International Airport, in Ladyville. Finally it operated as the emergency medical airlift for the country.

BATSUB was home to 25 Flight AAC along with all the required support units.

The Guatemalan Supreme Court Friday ordered the release of four Belizean military officials who were allegedly caught on Guatemalan territory.
Their imprisonment fueled a century-old border dispute between the Central American neighbors and the four officials were freed shortly after.
Meanwhile, for those living in the disputed area, tensions are high.
Military surveillance is high on the border between Guatemala and Belize.
On Friday, the Guatemalan Supreme Court ordered the release of four Belizean military officials whose imprisonment re-ignited a century-old border dispute between the Central American neighbors.
The four were freed shortly after.
Three soldiers and a police officer from the Belize Defense Force were arrested on illegal weapons charges February 24, after they were found with machine guns and pistols in what Guatemalan officials say is the northernmost Guatemalan state of Peten.
The Guatemalan military says it has scientific proof the four were in Guatemalan territory.
Soldiers constantly patrol the area which has been a thorn in the side of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"Our activities here are due to the presence of the Belizean Armed Forces. Therefore for us, our mission is to carry out patrols in the territory which is common, in the territory which belongs to Belize and the territory which is ours."

But Belizean officials say their officers never crossed the border and were actually arrested in Belize's Toledo District.
The border dispute seems unlikely to end anytime soon.

Guatemala once claimed the entire territory of Belize, but the Belize government discouraged any military action by the presence of a token British infantry and tank force.
Though Guatemala officially recognized Belize's borders in 1992, the disagreement was reignited in recent months by the deaths of two Guatemalans at the hands of border guards from Belize.
After the recent arrests became public, Belize immediately called off a round of scheduled peace talks with Guatemalan officials in Miami.
Supreme Court judges gave no explanation for their decision.

The British Army Training Support Unit Belize (BATSUB) has been a hub for jungle warfare training for decades, but in 2011 it was scaled right down.
Just six personnel are based in the country now, but demand for training has recently started to increase, with members of 2nd Battalion, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment one of the most recent units to go there on exercise.
It is seen as one of the toughest places in which to train, and soldiers from the regiment have been spending a month living under the canopy adapting their tactics, live firing and learning survival skills.
Forces TV's Carla Prater followed the battalion on exercise to see the training opportunities on offer.

If you want to detox from social media and relax in an irie atmosphere there’s one place in Central America you have to visit. See it to Belize it is the hashtag everybody uses on Instagram and Discover how to BE seems to be their latest campaign
Belize is located next to Mexico and Guatemala and most travelers that visit, come from these neighboring countries just like I did. I stayed two nights in Belize city before travelling to Caye Caulker. Most people say Belize city is dangerous but I didn't experience it that way. But everything goes 'dead' once the shops close and it becomes dark. And because so little people are on the streets it can give you an uncomfortable feeling but nothing happened to me. The only reason I wouldn't recommend Belize city it's because I find it boring, there's nothing to see or do there.
But Caye Caulker is definitely a must and left me wanting more. I was told that Belize is like a mini Brazil as it offers the same highlights such as a rich nature, beaches, scuba diving and more more. But since Belize is small it's easier to explore all these highlights and in a much cheaper way.

Surviving The Jungle: Exercise Mayan Warrior
The British Army Training Support Unit Belize (BATSUB) has been a hub for jungle warfare training for decades, but in 2011 it was scaled right down. Just six personnel are based in the country now, but demand for training has recently started to increase, with members of 2nd Battalion, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment one of the most recent units to go there on exercise. It is seen as one of the toughest places in which to train, and soldiers from the regiment have been spending a month living under the canopy adapting their tactics, live firing and learning survival skills. Forces TV's Carla Prater followed the battalion on exercise to see the training opportunities on offer.

The British Army Training Support Unit Belize (BATSUB) has been a hub for jungle warfare training for decades, but in 2011 it was scaled right down.
Just six personnel are based in the country now, but demand for training has recently started to increase, with members of 2nd Battalion, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment one of the most recent units to go there on exercise.
It is seen as one of the toughest places in which to train, and soldiers from the regiment have been spending a month living under the canopy adapting their tactics, live firing and learning survival skills.
Forces TV's Carla Prater followed the battalion on exercise to see the training opportunities on offer.

Footage shows U.S. Soldiers from U.S. paratroopers assigned to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division during intense jungle survival training led by French army instructors inside the French jungle warfare school to learn how to fight, survive, navigate and set up booby traps inside the deadly green hell of the african jungle.
The soldiers conduct tense Physical Training, a Land Navigation Course and a team obstacle course before they are teached how to fight and set up booby traps inside the junge aswell.
Also the U.S. paratroopers assigned to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division learn new first aid techniques and how to treat a casualty with an IV at the French Jungle Warfare School.
Jungle warfare is a term used to cover the special techniques needed for military units to survive and fight in jungle terrain.
It has been the topic of extensive study by military strategists, and was an important part of the planning for both sides in many conflicts, including World War II and the Vietnam War.
The jungle has a variety of effects on military operations. Dense vegetation can limit lines of sight and arcs of fire, but can also provide ample opportunity for camouflage and plenty of material with which to build fortifications.
Jungle terrain, often without good roads, can be inaccessible to vehicles and so makes supply and transport difficult, which in turn places a premium on air mobility. The problems of transport make engineering resources important as they are needed to improve roads, build bridges and airfields, and improve water supplies.
Jungle environments can also be inherently unhealthy, with various tropical diseases that have to be prevented or treated by medical services. Likewise the terrain can make it difficult to deploy armoured forces, or any other kind of forces on any large scale. Successful jungle fighting emphasises effective small unit tactics and leadership.
The Jungle Warfare School ran its first course in 1983. Since then, the French school's top priority has been to train their African partners, in addition to some European troops. This is the first time any U.S. servicemember has attended the course, which focuses on terrain unfamiliar to today's ordinary Soldier.
Soldiers navigated the two to four-hour long obstacle course twice, once as individuals and once in squad-sized groups. Most events invovled moving across shaky surfaces over murky waters, requiring strength, concentration and the ability to persevere past pain and fear. Soldiers relied on one another to push through mental doubts.
In addition to enhancing their overall operational readiness, Soldiers of 3-7th Infantry also improved their ability to communicate across cultural and language barriers.
After a strenuous week in the jungle, Soldiers were ready for hot food, showers and air conditioning. Even though Hubbard said he was not much of an "outdoorsy" person before, he is now upon completing the course.
Following Jungle Warfare School, the Soldiers joined others of 2nd IBCT, the regionally allocated force for U.S. Army Africa, to train side by side with their Gabonese and other African and European partner nations during Central Accord 2016. U.S. Army Africa's exercise Central Accord 2016 is an annual, combined, joint military exercise that brings together partner nations to practice and demonstrate proficiency in conducting peacekeeping operations.

At a short moment's notice, Wil Mehia, the revolutionary Southern Belizean Activist against the Guatemalan military oligarchy aggression on the Belize Sarstoon River and Island in the Toledo District, comes to "Belizean Legends" finally in this powerful and informative exclusive interview with yours truly about the state of affairs of Guatemala's recent aggressive tactics against Belize, and to share his perspective on the scheme to force Belize to go to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Because of his busy schedule away from home in internationalizing the struggle for the Belizean people for their right to self-determination and territorial integrity, Brother Wil is a man on a mission, and a revolutionary in resistance against the war machine in Central America called the "Guatemalan Military Oligarchy". He has vehemently stated in his presentation here, that since the one-hundred years of Guatemala's illegal claim to Belize, it has never crossed the Belizean border until it did so in 2015, and annexed Belizean territory both on the Sarstoon River in the South, and the Chiquibul Forrest in the West. This has been absolutely historical in terms of the Guatemalan oligarchy's stand down position when the British military presence were in Belize, and had provided Belize with a defense guarantee before and for a short while later after Belize's independence.
Brother Mehia expresses a passion for resistance that is obviously real and deeply rooted in his love for his country and brilliant understanding of the facts on the ground in Belize. He has been operating for years as an activist for the cause against defending the Belizean nation state against the Guatemalan military oligarchy ever since Odinga Lumumba and Maria Socorro Bobadilla's powerful resistance against the treacherous "Heads of Agreement" that saw the Price government of the day offered concessions for peace to the occupiers of Belizean land and sea to its North.
He speaks about the fact that he escorted former Belize Prime Minister, Manuel Esquivel, to the border during the Esquivel administration's crisis with the Guatemalan government's aggressions, and has been making the facts clear all the time as a southern born Belizean nationalist, that Belize's borders are intact and are established by the 1859 United Nations treaty that culminated Belize's independence from Britain with all its land and sea included. At a short moment's notice, Wil Mehia, the revolutionary Southern Belizean Activist against the Guatemalan military oligarchy aggression on the Belize Sarstoon River and Island in the Toledo District, comes to "Belizean Legends" finally in this powerful and informative exclusive interview with yours truly about the state of affairs of Guatemala's recent aggressive tactics against Belize, and to share his perspective on the scheme to force Belize to go to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Because of his busy schedule away from home in internationalizing the struggle for the Belizean people for their right to self-determination and territorial integrity, Brother Wil is a man on a mission, and a revolutionary in resistance against the war machine in Central America called the "Guatemalan Military Oligarchy". He has vehemently stated in his presentation here, that since the one-hundred years of Guatemala's illegal claim to Belize, it has never crossed the Belizean border until it did so in 2015, and annexed Belizean territory both on the Sarstoon River in the South, and the Chiquibul Forrest in the West. This has been absolutely historical in terms of the Guatemalan oligarchy's stand down position when the British military presence were in Belize, and had provided Belize with a defense guarantee before and for a short while later after Belize's independence.
Brother Mehia expresses a passion for resistance that is obviously real and deeply rooted in his love for his country and brilliant understanding of the facts on the ground in Belize. He has been operating for years as an activist for the cause against defending the Belizean nation state against the Guatemalan military oligarchy ever since Odinga Lumumba and Maria Socorro Bobadilla's powerful resistance against the treacherous "Heads of Agreement" that saw the Price government of the day offered concessions for peace to the occupiers of Belizean land and sea to its North.
He speaks about the fact that he escorted former Belize Prime Minister, Manuel Esquivel, to the border during the Esquivel administration's crisis with the Guatemalan government's aggressions, and has been making the facts clear all the time as a southern born Belizean nationalist, that Belize's borders are intact and are established by the 1859 United Nations treaty that culminated Belize's independence from Britain with all its land and sea included.
