The new resident Commissioner British High to Fiji, His Excellency Mr Roderick Ian Drummond presented his credentials to the President, His Excellency Ratu Epeli Nailatikau today.
His Excellency Ratu Epeli welcomed the new high commissioner to the country as he presented his credentials to the President.
Mr Drummond completed a Master of Arts with Honours in History from the Edinburgh University in United Kingdom in 1985.
Mr Drummond joined the FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) in 1985 and has worked on Middle East affairs in Algeria, Jordan, Syria, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, where he had been Deputy Head of Mission since 2009.
He has also served in South Africa where he focused on trade and investment promotion, and worked on EU affairs in Brussels, including the development of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy.
Mr Drummond also has keen interest in rugby, camping, trekking, tennis, golf, scuba diving, history and cooking.
Mr Drummond is married to Mrs Yasmin Kamal with three children.
The British High Commission in Suva is also to Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands.

STORYLINE:
Britain has recalled some of its diplomats from Pakistan and urged its citizens to avoid travelling to the country, citing terrorist threats made against two British consulates.
U-K Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, who plans to visit South Asia next week to try to ease tensions between India and Pakistan, said the diplomats, embassy and consulate staff and their families would leave Pakistan immediately.
He said the Foreign Office was advising against all but essential travel to Pakistan, and said that even then there should be a compelling reason to go and a guarantee of security.
As well as the diplomatic services, the British Council, which administers British cultural projects overseas, has closed all its offices in Pakistan.
The number of diplomats, staff and family members attached to the British High Commission, or embassy, in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, will be cut from about 210 to about 80, the Foreign Office said.
In Karachi, the number of staff and family members at the Deputy High Commission will be reduced from 36 to 10, and all 10 Britons attached to the Lahore Deputy High Commission will leave and the office will remain closed.
Straw declined to say who might be behind the threats, but cited recent attacks that have killed American and French nationals in Pakistan.
Like the United States, Britain has been the target of hostility from Muslim extremists in Pakistan for sending forces to neighbouring Afghanistan to drive out the Taliban government and Osama bin Laden.
A car bomb in Karachi killed 11 French engineers and three Pakistanis, including the presumed suicide bomber, on May 8. Two months earlier, four worshippers at a Protestant church in Islamabad, including a U-S Embassy employee and her 17-year-old daughter, were killed in a grenade attack.

High Commissioner is the title of various high-ranking, special executive positions held by a commission of appointment.
The English term is also used to render various equivalent titles in other languages.
In the Commonwealth of Nations, a High Commissioner is the senior diplomat (ranking as an ambassador) in charge of the diplomatic mission of one Commonwealth government to another. In this usage, a Commonwealth nation's High Commission is its embassy to another Commonwealth nation.
Historically, in the British Empire (most of which would become the Commonwealth) High Commissioners were envoys of the Imperial Government appointed to manage protectorates or groups of territories not fully under the sovereignty of the British Crown, while Crown colonies (which were British sovereign territory) would normally be administered by a Governor and the most significant possessions, large confederations and the independent Commonwealth Dominions would be headed by a Governor-General.

Plot: In 1968, Canada saw the election of a Prime Minister unlike any other in its history, Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Handsome, witty, idealistic, flamboyant, courageous and debonair Trudeau rides on an unheard of crest of popularity nicknamed "Trudeaumania" that sweeps him into the highest political office in the country. At the same time, he develops a passionate romance with a young Margaret Sinclair that soon leads to marriage. However, events would put both Pierre's political and personal life under the gun as he must struggle with traumatic events like the terrorist crisis that grips Quebec in October 1970 which forces him to declare temporary martial law being but the first of the major challenges. At the same time, the demands of being a Prime Minister's wife takes its own toll on Margaret as her relationship with Pierre begins to disintergrate. Eventually, both pressures do their harm as the couple divorces and Pierre's political standing falls even as his Quebec Seperatist foes rise in power in Quebec and threaten to tear the country apart. With soul searching and difficult confrontations both in the political and private spheres, Pierre Trudeau faces the greatest challenges of his career. Those tasks of fighting to keep Quebec in Canada and then striving to bring home the Canadian Constitution complete with an entrenched Charter of Rights and Freedoms will leave an indelible mark on the nation even while he struggles to reconcile, however partially, with the woman he loved.

His Excellency Ratu Epeli welcomed the new high commissioner to the country as he presented his credentials to the President.
Mr Drummond completed a Master of Arts with Honours in History from the Edinburgh University in United Kingdom in 1985.
Mr Drummond joined the FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) in 1985 and has worked on Middle East affairs in Algeria, Jordan, Syria, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, where he had been Deputy Head of Mission since 2009.
He has also served in South Africa where he focused on trade and investment promotion, and worked on EU affairs in Brussels, including the development of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy.
Mr Drummond also has keen interest in rugby, camping, trekking, tennis, golf, scuba diving, history and cooking.
Mr Drummond is married to Mrs Yasmin Kamal with three children.

STORYLINE:
Britain has recalled some of its diplomats from Pakistan and urged its citizens to avoid travelling to the country, citing terrorist threats made against two British consulates.
U-K Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, who plans to visit South Asia next week to try to ease tensions between India and Pakistan, said the diplomats, embassy and consulate staff and their families would leave Pakistan immediately.
He said the Foreign Office was advising against all but essential travel to Pakistan, and said that even then there should be a compelling reason to go and a guarantee of security.
As well as the diplomatic services, the British Council, which administers British cultural projects overseas, has closed all its offices in Pakistan.
The number of diplomats, staff and family members attached to the British High Commission, or embassy, in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, will be cut from about 210 to about 80, the Foreign Office said.
In Karachi, the number of staff and family members at the Deputy High Commission will be reduced from 36 to 10, and all 10 Britons attached to the Lahore Deputy High Commission will leave and the office will remain closed.
Straw declined to say who might be behind the threats, but cited recent attacks that have killed American and French nationals in Pakistan.
Like the United States, Britain has been the target of hostility from Muslim extremists in Pakistan for sending forces to neighbouring Afghanistan to drive out the Taliban government and Osama bin Laden.
A car bomb in Karachi killed 11 French engineers and three Pakistanis, including the presumed suicide bomber, on May 8. Two months earlier, four worshippers at a Protestant church in Islamabad, including a U-S Embassy employee and her 17-year-old daughter, were killed in a grenade attack.

STORYLINE:
A small explosion occurred on Thursday in the parking area outside the British High Commission in Islamabad, but there were no reports of any damage or casualties.
A British official refused to confirm or deny the incident.
However, witnesses said a large number of police had gathered around the High Commission - or embassy - compound.
Pakistan has tightened security at the embassies of Western countries, including the United States and Britain, after the September 11 terrorist strikes and the US-led military campaign against the Taliban and al-Qaida in Afghanistan.

British High Commissioner to Cyprus, Ric Todd, said he had spoken to one of the Brits caught up in Tuesday's hijacking of an EgyptAir flight, and that he was relieved the situation had ended peacefully. British High Commissioner to Cyprus, Ric Todd, said he had spoken to one of the Brits caught up in Tuesday's hijacking of an EgyptAir flight, and that he was relieved the situation had ended peacefully. Todd said three British nationals and one dual national were on board the plane which was hijacked by an Egyptian man wearing a fake explosives belt, who forced it to land in Cyprus.
The hijacker had earlier freed most of the passengers but kept on board seven people - four crew members and three passengers. The man has since surrendered and was taken into custody after he released all passengers and crew unharmed. His surrender ended an hours-long standoff at Larnaca airport. The man's motivations were unclear, but officials said the hijacking was not terrorism-related, and that the hijacker had tried to communicate with his Cypriot ex-wife, who lives on the island.
