Frank Shepard Fairey (born February 15, 1970) is an American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, activist, illustrator and founder of OBEY (clothing) who emerged from the skateboarding scene. He first became known for his "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" (…OBEY…) sticker campaign while attending the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), which appropriated images from the comedic supermarket tabloid Weekly World News.
He became widely known during the 2008 U.S. presidential election for his Barack Obama "Hope" poster. The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston calls him one of today's best known and most influential street artists. His work is included in the collections at The Smithsonian, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Shepard Fairey was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. His father, Strait Fairey, is a doctor, and his mother, Charlotte, a realtor. He attended Wando High School. Fairey became involved with art in 1984, when he started to place his drawings on skateboards and T-shirts.
Larry King (born Lawrence Harvey Zeiger, November 19, 1933) is an American television and radio host, actor, voice actor and comedian whose work has been recognized with awards including two Peabodys and 10 Cable ACE Awards.
He began as a local Florida journalist and radio interviewer in the 1950s and 1960s and became prominent as an all-night national radio broadcaster starting in 1978. From 1985 to 2010, he hosted the nightly interview television program Larry King Live on CNN. He currently hosts Larry King Now on Hulu and RT America during the week, and on Thursdays he hosts Politicking with Larry King, a weekly political talk show which airs in the evening on the same two channels.
King was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Jennie (Gitlitz), a garment worker who was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, and Aaron Zeiger, a restaurant owner and defense-plant worker who was born in Kolomyia, Ukraine. Both parents were Orthodox Jews.
King was educated at Lafayette High School, a public high school in the Brooklyn area of New York City. His father died at 44 of a heart attack and his mother had to go on welfare to support her two sons. King was greatly affected by his father's death, and he lost interest in school. After graduating from high school, he worked to help support his mother and did not go to college or university. From an early age, however, he had wanted to go into radio.

Genres: Drama, Short,Subscribe: http://bit.ly/1U49dVv I was commissioned by the Halsey Institute out of Charleston, South Carolina to shoot a short film on the infamous street artist behind OBEY: Shepard Fairey. I definitely knew Shepard's work, whether it be that repetitive face of Andre the Giant popping up at every street corner I've ever been on, or as the Obama Poster that definitely did more for an election than just add aesthetic to it - but I was not aware at how incredibly inspiring Shepard would turn out to be. For a new understanding of how this skateboarder turned mega famed street star turned out to be, check this film out. Directed/Film/Edit: http://BrettNovak.com / @BrettNovak

Shepard Fairey knows a thing or two about impacting culture. From creating the viral "Obey" propaganda campaign, to branding the president with the Obama "Hope" poster, he is one of the most influential artists of our time. Simultaneously reaching the conscious and the unconscious, art has the potential to succeed where traditional approaches have failed, while acting as a catalyst for awareness and action. In his keynote address, Shepard explored the proven methods by which to reach culture, and linked it to the challenge of our time.
Listen to the whole interview: http://beta.wnyc.org/shows/bl/2010/apr/21/shepard-fairey-banksey/ Shepard Fairey, the street artist featured in the new Banksy film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", explains the film, if it's real, what it says about the art world, and why he continues to play along.
Nov. 4, 2009: Visions & Voices presents: Art, Culture, Politics: A Conversation with Shepard Fairey Join communication professor Sarah Banet-Weiser for a conversation with Shepard Fairey, a contemporary artist, graphic designer and political and social activist. He emerged from the skateboarding scene in the mid-1990s and has since established his own "brand" as a cultural entrepreneur. His iconic images, like the OBEY artwork and the Obama "HOPE" poster, are central elements of a contemporary cultural and creative economy. As a cultural entrepreneur of the current era, Fairey has uniquely tapped into those relationships that historically have seemed so vexing—politics, consumption and marketing. Fairey represents a new kind of cultural producer, at home with commerce and cultural polit...
Shepard talks about the influence graffiti, skateboarding and punk rock had on his life and the ways it shaped his art career. Key moments such as a school trip to NY and the melding of styles by brands such as Shut Skateboards allowed him to develop his techniques. Look out for some classic 90's skate footage as well.
Studio interview with Shepard Fairey and Jonathan LeVine
While working for the Lambesis advertising agency, we proposed including a VHS "magazine" (Channel A) with every pair of skate shoes sold for client Airwalk. Marketing students will be familiar with the campaign from Malcolm Gladwell's book, The Tipping Point. The interview was conducted at the BLKMKT offices in San Diego, California at a time when Shep was gaining notoriety for the Andre the Giant campaign, but was not yet the international art star who helped Barrack Obama get elected. We later went out and filmed him wheat-pasting around downtown San Diego. We licensed Helen Stickler's documentary, "Andre the Giant has a posse" for the intro. Second camera in the interview was shot by famed skateboard photographer Daniel Harold Sturt. There's a ton of rad art in the background and stree...
