The American Dream is a national ethos of the United States, the set of ideals (Democracy, Rights, Liberty, Opportunity, and Equality) in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility for the family and children, achieved through hard work in a society with few barriers. In the definition of the American Dream by James Truslow Adams in 1931, "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless of social class or circumstances of birth.
The American Dream is rooted in the Declaration of Independence, which proclaims that "all men are created equal" with the right to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
The meaning of the "American Dream" has changed over the course of history, and includes both personal components (such as home ownership and upward mobility) and a global vision. Historically the Dream originated in the mystique regarding frontier life. As the Royal Governor of Virginia noted in 1774, the Americans "for ever imagine the Lands further off are still better than those upon which they are already settled". He added that, "if they attained Paradise, they would move on if they heard of a better place farther west."
American Dream (Shannon Carter) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character has been featured in Marvel Comics MC2 series A-Next. Her costume is very similar to that of Captain America. Her initial weapons are throwing disks like Ricochet's, but later obtains Captain America's shield. She appeared as a civilian in A-Next #1, and was named as "Shannon" in A-Next #3; it was not until A-Next #4 that she appeared in costume, as a prospective team member.
American Dream has since appeared in two mini-series, her own in May 2008 and a second in June 2011, Captain America Corps.
The niece of S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, Shannon Carter grew up idolizing Captain America. She was hired by Edwin Jarvis as a tour guide for the Avengers Headquarters, at that time functioning only as a museum. When the new Avengers team was formed, she was determined to join. She wears a costume based on Captain America's and carries on her arms disc weapons resembling miniature versions of his shield. Her strength and agility are honed by intensive physical training. After joining the team as the American Dream, Shannon soon proved herself to be an effective Avenger, and when the team saved the original Avengers from a dark parallel world, Captain America himself judged her worthy to wield the shield of the alternate Captain. She also proved to be an important character in defeating Galactus in the Last Planet Standing limited series. She along with Stinger and Spider-Girl took down Galactus from the inside. They survived the imminent explosion by shrinking to microscopic size.
American Dream (アメリカンドリーム, "American Dream") is a Family Computer video game that was released in 1989 to an exclusively Japanese market.
The player must earn money in order to become the wealthiest gambler in the world. The game, set in New York City, is considered a spin-off from the Pachio-kun franchise.Al Capone has a cameo role in this game even though he lived about one thousand miles to the west (Chicago) in real life.
Roads, taxis and automobiles are not portrayed in the game. However, a black limousine that escorts the player from the air force base to the final casino is portrayed as driving on grass. This is in direct opposition to the real New York City where the majority of the surface is concrete (either as roads, parking lots, or as foundations for the buildings). Only parks and some older residential districts use grass in their design in the real world. Buildings are either shown as dilapidated tenements, shiny towers, or as flashy casinos.
The American Dream is a national ethos of the United States in which freedom includes a promise of the possibility of prosperity and success.

I had a face so cute made a young girl cry
And I could blow 'em away with just a wink of my eye
I got all dolled up on a Saturday night
Can't find a lady so I'll start a fight
Hey but ain't that the American Dream
But at School the young boys would assemble down in the parking lot
And we spoke of the homecoming queen and all the goodies she's got
Well those stories would choke a semi
And every dare was do or die
Hey but ain't that the American Dream
(bridge)
Well I grew up believin' I could do what I wanted to do
When I got a little older I found that it just wasn't true
There's gotta be a place for me
Where I can out-be just what I want to be
Hey but ain't that the American Dream
Some of the girls are out teaching high school biology
And all of my boyfriends they work down at Cummmins factory
But me I'm still out on the streets trying to locate some destiny
Hey but ain't that the American Dream
(repeat bridge)
