Amy Beth Hayes

Amy Beth Hayes (born 8 October 1982) is a British actress.

Career

Amy Beth Hayes was born in Abergavenny, Wales, but grew up in Darlington, north-east England where she attended Branksome Comprehensive School

She made her screen debut in the 2008 Doctor Who episode "The Stolen Earth" and the same year she was cast in a lead role in the ITV drama Whatever It Takes.

Hayes appeared in the 2009 Romanian film Eva and in Micro Men, a BBC-made film charting the rise and fall of the home computer industry in the United Kingdom in the early 1980s. She played Cynthia, Clive Sinclair's personal secretary.

In 2009 Hayes played Ruth, an old woman restored temporarily to her younger self by a peculiar thunder storm, in E4's superhero comedy-drama Misfits.

In 2011 she played Lucy in 'The Entire History of You', the third episode of Black Mirror, a three-part television drama series created by Charlie Brooker.

In 2012, Hayes starred in BBC drama The Syndicate, playing the girlfriend of one of the lottery winners.

Beth Hayes

Beth Hayes (May 27, 1955 – June 3, 1984) was an American economist specializing in theoretical microeconomics. She has been memorialized by an award established by the University of Pennsylvania.

Educational Background

Hayes graduated from the honors program at the University of Michigan in 1977 and received her Ph.D. in Economics in 1982 from the University of Pennsylvania, studying under David Cass. Her dissertation, Three Essays in Microeconomic Theory, formed the basis for her foundational work in research on two-part tariffs and asymmetical information, and insurance contracts.

Academic Life and Legacy

Hayes Asymmetric Information Model of Strike Behavior

Beth Hayes was a professor of managerial economics in the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University until her death in a traffic fatality in 1984. Hayes produced foundational research on two-part tariffs, the economics of information asymmetry, insurance contracts, and public regulation. The model of strike behavior has been referenced widely and empirically tested. "The Hayes asymmetric information model of strike activity predicts a negative relationship between actual firm profits and strike frequency, and a positive relationship between the trade union's expectations of firm profitability and the duration of strikes." Other references to the Hayes model appear in articles by Joseph S. Tracy,David Card, Other references to the model appear in studies examining trade union behavior in Papua New Guinea, and Japan. The model continues to be cited in studies on union strike behavior.

Mr Selfridge

Mr Selfridge is a British period television drama series about Harry Gordon Selfridge and his department store, Selfridge & Co, in London, set in the 1910s. It is co-produced by ITV Studios and Masterpiece/WGBH for broadcast on ITV. The series began broadcasting on ITV on 6 January 2013 and 30 March 2013 on PBS in the United States.

Development and production

It was announced on 24 May 2011 that ITV was in discussions with ITV Studios about developing an adaptation of Lindy Woodhead's biography Shopping, Seduction & Mr Selfridge.Andrew Davies was confirmed to be working on the script. Beginning in London in 1908, during a time period when women were enjoying an ever increasing amount of freedom, it tells the story of Harry Gordon Selfridge, the founder of Selfridges department store and includes members of his family, particularly his wife Rose Selfridge.

It was originally planned to be screened in 2012. However, it is claimed that ITV was forced to push back airing the drama due to rival BBC airing a similarly themed drama series The Paradise.
