Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris, who was better known as Le Corbusier (French: [lə kɔʁbyzje]; October 6, 1887 – August 27, 1965), was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, writer, and one of the pioneers of what is now called modern architecture. He was born in Switzerland and became a French citizen in 1930. His career spanned five decades, with his buildings constructed throughout Europe, India, and the Americas.
Dedicated to providing better living conditions for the residents of crowded cities, Le Corbusier was influential in urban planning, and was a founding member of the Congrès international d'architecture moderne (CIAM). Corbusier prepared the master plan for the city of Chandigarh in India, and contributed specific designs for several buildings there.
He was born as Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a small city in Neuchâtel canton in north-western Switzerland, in the Jura mountains, just 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) across the border from France. He attended a kindergarten that used Fröbelian methods.
An excellent overview of the life and work of architect Le Corbusier including discussion of the Unite d'Habitation in Marseilles and in Part 2 his work in Chandigarh, India. THIS IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY! I DO NOT OWN ANYTHING!

Although this is a suburban patrician villa here the architect tackles the issue, developed in previous projects of low-cost housing, housing as a "machine à habiter" , perfect working order. The Villa looks like a huge white box supported by slender concrete stilts that allow you to have the ground floor occupied by the volume of service and partly open to car traffic, while the two upper levels are br...
A fascinating story, partly unknown, which retraces the life of the renowned architect and the meetings which led to the production of this collection of furniture exclusively produced for the last 50 years by Cassina. Thanks to this story, which in parallel, recounts the worldwide diffusion of Italian style, it is possible to understand the true value of the production and the international diffusion of these modern icons. The 52 minute documentary underlines the importance of the research and innovation carried out by the Italian industry. By choosing Cassina, Le Corbusier demonstrated recognition of the industrial know-how of the Italian company which immediately accepted the challenge to produce these revolutionary items, unfamiliar at the time, introducing over the years a series of ...

'Free the Open Hand Campaign' is people's initiative to set the Open Hand Monument,Chandigarh free for the citizen to visit without hassles . Le Corbusier Visualized it as a temple of democracy. The Open hand monument stands for the vision ' Open to receive and open to give' & also was meant to be a place where citizens can hold public debates on City's present days issues. But today it lies Cordoned off from citizens as they need permission from various administrative departments to just visit it. The citizen's right to move in their own city is grossly being challenged. Atleast dozen gunmen point AK 56 when u approach the road to Open hand. In 1957, two years before his death, Frank Lloyd Wright sat down with WNYC to discuss his design philosophy, exhibiting his trademark eloquence and blistering opinions. Wright was interviewed by Geoffrey Ellis Aronin and his mother, Mrs. Joseph Aronin. "Well, now that he has finished one building, he'll go write four books about it." - Frank Lloyd Wright about Le Corbusier "He should have been a painter. He was a bad one, but he should have kept on." - Wright on Le Corbusier
This past summer MoMA hosted the first major exhibition of the work of the architect Le Corbusier. CUNY TV talked to the curator of the exhibition, Jean Louis-Cohen, who explains why this show devoted to, arguably, "the greatest architect of the 20th century" was so significant. Le Corbusier, Cohen explain was the first architect to work on a truly international scale, with projects around the world. He was also instrumental in defining large-scale modernist architecture. However, as Cohen explains, his life and work have not often been explored by American museums until now. MoMA's show offered American viewers the first chance to see the architects full range of work from his architectural models to his paintings, drawings and even writings.
Le Corbusier (Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris) was one of the most well-known Swiss-French architects. The LC line is Le Corbusier’s successful effort at fusion of urban style with the industrial steel age as a breakthrough to modernism. Like a cushion cradle, the LC Reproduction line boasts a unique, stylish and attention-grabbing externalized frame that holds the cushions like little baskets. Originally designed for the Maison la Roche in Paris as part of Le Corbusier’s 2 projects, the final product of chrome-plated tubular steel chairs have now become an iconic timeless collection imbued with elegance and class. IFN Modern offers a very high-quality reproduction of the Le Corbusier Collection, paying close attention to every detail from the framework to the upholstery. In this video, r...

The conversation with one of the great stalwarts in the history of Indian architecture, B.V. Doshi, follows its course into another segment where he recounts his experience with the French culture while learning and working under his mentor Le Corbusier. He also talks about expanding his work his Indian colleagues on structures in Chandigarh, and how he had to expostulate his credibility.
“A conversation is a dialogue, not a monologue. That's why there are so few good conversations: due to scarcity, two intelligent talkers seldom meet." — Truman Capote ‘In Conversation’ — is a segment where ideas originate, conversation flows and legends communicate. The first series features renowned architect Christopher Benninger in rendezvous with the titans from the field of architecture. In the first episode of the series, B. V. Doshi shares intimacies of his childhood and his family, referring to them as a continuum that influence him to date. He also talks about his introduction to architecture — a series of questions that shaped his life. He relates his immersion into Le Corbusier practice, which began in abject poverty and self-doubt; besides which, he pursued architecture relen...

Building Echoes 16-31 January 2015 Interview Room 11 Building Echoes will be the first exhibition of Interview Room 11 that analyses the relationship between architecture and art. Two artists, Alberto Condotta and Colin Lindsay, will give their own vision about the meaning of architecture, playing as well with the concepts of 'body' and 'sculpture'. Lindsay takes as starting point Le Corbusier’s Shodan House, a construction that blurs the distinction between inside and outside. For this exhibition, the artist takes aspects of Shodan House as the basis for a series of related sculptures. Condotta, meanwhile, presents a series of paintings evoking the synaesthetic feeling of space perceived by the self-body. For that he uses spaces that are familiar to him, such as views of his flat or pl...
