A video I put together for the city that I love!
Osaka has always been a merchant city, and known for its good food, especially local favorites okonomiyaki and tako-yaki. The people of Osaka love to eat and drink, and have an expression along the lines of "Eat until you burst!" In contrast to the formality of the samurai classes of Tokyo, the merchants of Osaka are considered to be more down-to-earth and friendly, which is reflected in the local dialect, called Osaka-ben. The rivalry between the two cities is played out between their Japanese pro baseball teams, Osaka's Hanshin Tigers and Tokyo's Yomiuri Giants.
大阪市は、近畿地方の行政・経済・文化・交通の中心都市であり、市域を中心として、大阪都市圏および京阪神大都市圏が形成されている。大阪市の2009年度の市内総生産は約19兆円で[1]、政令指定都市中最大であり2倍から3倍の人口を擁する埼玉県や北海道、兵庫県など1つの道府県の県内総生産を上回る[2]。京阪神大都市圏の圏内総生産は、国内では首都圏に次ぎ、世界的にも上位にある[3]。また市内の従業者数、事業所数、上場企業本社数は共に東京23区に次いで国内2位である。夜間人口は横浜市に次いで全国2位の約267万人、人口密度は全国の市で5位（政令指定都市中で1位）、昼間人口は市外から多くの通勤通学者が流入するため東京23区に次ぐ約369万人となる。近年では都心回帰が顕著で、中心部三区を中心に増加傾向にある。
古代から瀬戸内海・大阪湾に面した当時の国際的な港である住吉津や難波津などのある外交に関連した港湾都市として栄え、古代の首都としての難波宮、難波京などの都城も造営された。中世には、浄土真宗の本山であった石山本願寺が置かれ、寺内町として発展した。近世初期には豊臣秀吉が大坂城を築城し、城下町が整備された。江戸時代には天領となり、江戸をしのぐ経済・交通・金融・商業の中心地として発展。天下の台所と称され、豊かな町人文化を育んだ。明治時代に入ると、繊維工業（船場の繊維街なども有名）を中心とした工業都市となり、「東洋のマンチェスター」、「煙の都」と称された。戦後も長らく経済に関しては東京をリードする立場が続き、特に1990年代まで9大総合商社のうち6社が大阪本社といった構図がこれを象徴していたが、これも相次ぐ再編や東京移転で過去のものとなった。
第二次世界大戦後には、重化学工業の比重が高まり、今日も阪神工業地帯の中核を担う。他方で、卸売業を中心に商業活動も活発で、道修町（薬種）、松屋町（玩具）、本町（繊維）など市内各所に問屋街が発達している。また中之島や北浜界隈には、金融街が形成されている。市役所の所在する中之島から大坂城にかけての地域には、官公庁や公的機関が数多く立地している。
2012年、アメリカのシンクタンクが公表したビジネス・人材・文化・政治などを対象とした総合的な世界都市ランキングにおいて、世界第47位の都市と評価されており、日本では東京に次いで第2位である。また2012年3月、イギリスのシンクタンクにより、世界第24位の金融センターと評価されている。

Dotonbori area is located in the minami (south) Osaka city. The minami Osaka City is known to be the entertainment capital of Osaka City. Specially Dotonbori area which stretches east/west alongside the Dotonbori River, lined up with many bars/restaurants/shops, with a lot of neon, interesting signs and crowds of locals and tourists. Dotonbori has always been considered as an iconic tourist spot in Osaka City, so if you get a chance to visit Osaka City, do not miss visiting Dotonbori.

Hello!
Since the "walk around with me" type video from Tokyo was pretty well received, I thought I'd make another one in Osaka!
Osaka is my favourite city in Japan, and one of my favourite places in the world (so far), and I'm so happy to share it with other people.
I hope this video captures a tiny bit of the bustling magic that is the city.
The fireworks at the end are from Nara's Yamayaki Matsuri (burning mountain festival). I had some footage and thought you might like to see them as well.

JR Osaka Station （JR大阪駅） is located in the northern part of central (or downtown) Osaka City in the Umeda district.
JR Osaka Station, along with Hankyu Umeda Station are the two stations that are considered the "gateway" to Osaka city. Tourists can come to either of these stations and then visit various spots in the downtown area using the subway lines.
This station is not to be mistaken with JR Shin-Osaka Station, which is located further north and primarily services the Shinkansen (Japanese Bullet Trains). JR Osaka Station does not have Shinkansen service.

2011年5月4日、5代目の大阪駅（施設全体の名称は大阪ステーションシティ）が開業。新たに出店したJR大阪三越伊勢丹の入るノースゲートビルと大丸梅田店の入るサウスゲートビルの2つの駅ビルが橋上駅舎（時空の広場）で結ばれ、さらに天井は巨大なドーム屋根で覆われた。この動画では新しい大阪駅の夜の風景を収録。
"OSAKA STATION CITY" had opened on 4th May 2011, at JR Osaka Station. The bridge over the platform connect with North Gate Building (Mitsukoshi Isetan Dept.) & South Gate Building (Daimaru Dept.), and big roof dome covered the platform over between two buildings. This movie introduces the night scene of renewed Osaka Station.

Osaka (大阪, Ōsaka?) 
listen (help·info) is a city in the Kansai region of Japan's main island of Honshu, a designated city under the Local Autonomy Law, the capital city of Osaka Prefecture and also the biggest part of Keihanshin area, which is represented by three major cities of Japan, Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe. Located at the mouth of the Yodo River on Osaka Bay, Osaka is the third largest city by population after Tokyo (special wards) and Yokohama.
Keihanshin is the second largest area in Japan by population and one of the largest metropolitan areas highly ranked in the world, with nearly 18 million people, and by GDP the second largest area in Japan and the seventh largest area in the world.
Historically the commercial centre of Japan, Osaka functions as one of the command centers for the Japanese economy. The ratio between daytime and night time population is 141%, the highest in Japan, highlighting its status as an economic center. Its nighttime population is 2.6 million, the third in the country, but in daytime the population surges to 3.7 million, second only after Tokyo (combining the Special wards of Tokyo, which is not a single incorporated city, for statistical purposes. A video I put together for the city that I love! Osaka has always been a merchant city, and known for its good food, especially local favorites okonomiyaki and tako-yaki. The people of Osaka love to eat and drink, and have an expression along the lines of "Eat until you burst!" In contrast to the formality of the samurai classes of Tokyo, the merchants of Osaka are considered to be more down-to-earth and friendly, which is reflected in the local dialect, called Osaka-ben. Dotonbori Entertainment District, Osaka City
Dotonbori area is located in the minami (south) Osaka city. The minami Osaka City is known to be the entertainment capital of Osaka City. Specially Dotonbori area which stretches east/west alongside the Dotonbori River, lined up with many bars/restaurants/shops, with a lot of neon, interesting signs and crowds of locals and tourists. Dotonbori has always been considered as an iconic tourist spot in Osaka City, so if you get a chance to visit Osaka City, do not miss visiting Dotonbori. -

Hello! Since the "walk around with me" type video from Tokyo was pretty well received, I thought I'd make another one in Osaka! Osaka is my favourite city in Japan, and one of my favourite places in the world (so far), and I'm so happy to share it with other people. I hope this video captures a tiny bit of the bustling magic that is the city. The fireworks at the end are from Nara's Yamayaki Matsuri (burning mountain festival). JR Osaka Station （JR大阪駅）, Umeda District, Osaka City
JR Osaka Station （JR大阪駅） is located in the northern part of central (or downtown) Osaka City in the Umeda district. JR Osaka Station, along with Hankyu Umeda Station are the two stations that are considered the "gateway" to Osaka city. Tourists can come to either of these stations and then visit various spots in the downtown area using the subway lines. This station is not to be mistaken with JR Shin-Osaka Station, which is located further north and primarily services the Shinkansen (Japanese Bullet Trains). JR Osaka Station does not have Shinkansen service. -

The people of Osaka love to eat and drink, and have an expression along the lines of "Eat until you burst!" In contrast to the formality of the samurai classes of Tokyo, the merchants of Osaka are considered to be more down-to-earth and friendly, which is reflected in the local dialect, called Osaka-ben. The rivalry between the two cities is played out between their Japanese pro baseball teams, Osaka's Hanshin Tigers and Tokyo's Yomiuri Giants.
大阪市は、近畿地方の行政・経済・文化・交通の中心都市であり、市域を中心として、大阪都市圏および京阪神大都市圏が形成されている。大阪市の2009年度の市内総生産は約19兆円で[1]、政令指定都市中最大であり2倍から3倍の人口を擁する埼玉県や北海道、兵庫県など1つの道府県の県内総生産を上回る[2]。京阪神大都市圏の圏内総生産は、国内では首都圏に次ぎ、世界的にも上位にある[3]。また市内の従業者数、事業所数、上場企業本社数は共に東京23区に次いで国内2位である。夜間人口は横浜市に次いで全国2位の約267万人、人口密度は全国の市で5位（政令指定都市中で1位）、昼間人口は市外から多くの通勤通学者が流入するため東京23区に次ぐ約369万人となる。近年では都心回帰が顕著で、中心部三区を中心に増加傾向にある。
古代から瀬戸内海・大阪湾に面した当時の国際的な港である住吉津や難波津などのある外交に関連した港湾都市として栄え、古代の首都としての難波宮、難波京などの都城も造営された。中世には、浄土真宗の本山であった石山本願寺が置かれ、寺内町として発展した。近世初期には豊臣秀吉が大坂城を築城し、城下町が整備された。江戸時代には天領となり、江戸をしのぐ経済・交通・金融・商業の中心地として発展。天下の台所と称され、豊かな町人文化を育んだ。明治時代に入ると、繊維工業（船場の繊維街なども有名）を中心とした工業都市となり、「東洋のマンチェスター」、「煙の都」と称された。戦後も長らく経済に関しては東京をリードする立場が続き、特に1990年代まで9大総合商社のうち6社が大阪本社といった構図がこれを象徴していたが、これも相次ぐ再編や東京移転で過去のものとなった。
第二次世界大戦後には、重化学工業の比重が高まり、今日も阪神工業地帯の中核を担う。他方で、卸売業を中心に商業活動も活発で、道修町（薬種）、松屋町（玩具）、本町（繊維）など市内各所に問屋街が発達している。また中之島や北浜界隈には、金融街が形成されている。市役所の所在する中之島から大坂城にかけての地域には、官公庁や公的機関が数多く立地している。
2012年、アメリカのシンクタンクが公表したビジネス・人材・文化・政治などを対象とした総合的な世界都市ランキングにおいて、世界第47位の都市と評価されており、日本では東京に次いで第2位である。また2012年3月、イギリスのシンクタンクにより、世界第24位の金融センターと評価されている。

大阪市は、近畿地方の行政・経済・文化・交通の中心都市であり、市域を中心として、大阪都市圏および京阪神大都市圏が形成されている。大阪市の2009年度の市内総生産は約19兆円で[1]、政令指定都市中最大であり2倍から3倍の人口を擁する埼玉県や北海道、兵庫県など1つの道府県の県内総生産を上回る[2]。京阪神大都市圏の圏内総生産は、国内では首都圏に次ぎ、世界的にも上位にある[3]。また市内の従業者数、事業所数、上場企業本社数は共に東京23区に次いで国内2位である。夜間人口は横浜市に次いで全国2位の約267万人、人口密度は全国の市で5位（政令指定都市中で1位）、昼間人口は市外から多くの通勤通学者が流入するため東京23区に次ぐ約369万人となる。近年では都心回帰が顕著で、中心部三区を中心に増加傾向にある。
古代から瀬戸内海・大阪湾に面した当時の国際的な港である住吉津や難波津などのある外交に関連した港湾都市として栄え、古代の首都としての難波宮、難波京などの都城も造営された。中世には、浄土真宗の本山であった石山本願寺が置かれ、寺内町として発展した。近世初期には豊臣秀吉が大坂城を築城し、城下町が整備された。江戸時代には天領となり、江戸をしのぐ経済・交通・金融・商業の中心地として発展。天下の台所と称され、豊かな町人文化を育んだ。明治時代に入ると、繊維工業（船場の繊維街なども有名）を中心とした工業都市となり、「東洋のマンチェスター」、「煙の都」と称された。戦後も長らく経済に関しては東京をリードする立場が続き、特に1990年代まで9大総合商社のうち6社が大阪本社といった構図がこれを象徴していたが、これも相次ぐ再編や東京移転で過去のものとなった。
第二次世界大戦後には、重化学工業の比重が高まり、今日も阪神工業地帯の中核を担う。他方で、卸売業を中心に商業活動も活発で、道修町（薬種）、松屋町（玩具）、本町（繊維）など市内各所に問屋街が発達している。また中之島や北浜界隈には、金融街が形成されている。市役所の所在する中之島から大坂城にかけての地域には、官公庁や公的機関が数多く立地している。
2012年、アメリカのシンクタンクが公表したビジネス・人材・文化・政治などを対象とした総合的な世界都市ランキングにおいて、世界第47位の都市と評価されており、日本では東京に次いで第2位である。また2012年3月、イギリスのシンクタンクにより、世界第24位の金融センターと評価されている。

Since the "walk around with me" type video from Tokyo was pretty well received, I thought I'd make another one in Osaka!
Osaka is my favourite city in Japan, and one of my favourite places in the world (so far), and I'm so happy to share it with other people.
I hope this video captures a tiny bit of the bustling magic that is the city.
The fireworks at the end are from Nara's Yamayaki Matsuri (burning mountain festival). I had some footage and thought you might like to see them as well.

This station is not to be mistaken with JR Shin-Osaka Station, which is located further north and primarily services the Shinkansen (Japanese Bullet Trains). JR Osaka Station does not have Shinkansen service.

Osaka is known as Japan's kitchen and for good reason! It's loaded with some of the best and cheapest restaurants and street stands anywhere.
Enter Dotonbori, the old entertainment district of Osaka that's also ground zero for cheap and easy to find street food. John Daub and Kevin Riley, a long-term resident of Osaka take their stomachs down the Dotonbori strip. We also introduce a very Osakan word: "Kuidaore" meaning eat until you drop!
Street food on Dotonbori:
★ Takoyaki
Called "octopus ball" by newbies to Japan, these round treats normally come topped with a tangy thick soy sauce, Japanese mayonaise, and dried fish and seaweed. Some shops go even further adding half boiled eggs or mountains of green negi!
A bowl of 6 to 8 balls costs 380 to 450 Yen.
Recommended shop: Creo-Ru Takoyaki
★ Kushikatsu
Another Osaka specialty you can find at a few stands. It's skewered and battered meats and vegetables deep fried until golden. pTake each skewer and dip it once in the special bath bin near the table or register. You won't be disappointed! Vegetables start at 60 yen and meats at 150 yen. Large Tiger Shrimps can go for 380 yen for one! Prices are listed on the menu outside the shop.
★ Gyoza
Osaka has it's own variety of dumplings. What's different? It's cheaper and made in Osaka! 180 yen for 6 gyoza!
★ Ramen
A few shops serve up hot bowls on the street side. Get a ticket at the vending machine for about 600 yen and enjoy!
Recommended shop: Kinryu Ramen (The one with the Dragon!)
★ Crab legs
Who would have thought crab was big in Osaka, but one of the most dominant restaurants serve them char-grilled right at the front of the street. The also have kani miso or "crab brains" served in a half shell. 500 yen for that. Yum.
Recommended shop: Kani Doraku

Kyoto, Japan, has long been considered one of the country’s most beautiful cities. Once the capital of the nation, Kyoto is now an ultra-modern haven that retains a great deal of its ancient charm.
To see some of this long-established glamour, make your way to Kyoto Tower. Just two miles east of the tower is Gion, an entertainment quarter and home to many of Kyoto’s famous geishas. As you walk east through Gion, you’ll find even more old architecture, including several Ryokan, or traditional Japanese inns. Many date back to the Edo period, which ranged from 1603 to 1868.
During your Kyoto tour, take a rickshaw ride to the Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka districts, where cars are prohibited and traditional teahouses and temples adorn the nearby landscape. Kyoto is known as “The City of Ten Thousand Shrines” for good reason. Walk through the great open plazas of the Haian Shrine, or spend a quiet moment in the intimate confines of the Shorenin Temple and its beautiful gardens.
The most famous of Kyoto’s temples is Fushimi Inari-taisha, a stunning red complex that sprawls over Mount Inari, which is named after and dedicated to Inari, the fox spirit. A hike to the summit takes about two hours, and will lead you through thousands of colorful sub-shrines and thick, ancient forest. Once you’re at the top, you’ll have a stunning view of Kyoto.
