So Close (Hall & Oates song)

"So Close" is a 1990 song by American pop duo Hall & Oates. It was written by Daryl Hall, George Green and Rick Giles, Jon Bon Jovi & Danny Kortchmar, as well as produced by Bon Jovi and Kortchmar. The song was released as the lead single from the Change of Season album and peaked at number 11 in the United States and number four in Canada. An acoustic version of the song also appears on the album and as a B-side of the single.

Release and reception

"So Close" was released as a single in September 1990, and it debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart the same month. It peaked at number 11 in December and spent 19 weeks on the chart. "So Close" was Hall & Oates' 29th and most recent single to reach the Top 40 section of the chart. The song also reached number 11 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, number 14 on the Singles Sales chart, and number six on the Adult Contemporary chart. The single peaked at number four in Canada and ranked number 36 on RPM magazine's year-end chart. It was less commercially successful in the United Kingdom, where it spent a sole week on the UK Singles Chart at number 69.

Six by Seven

Six by Seven (also written as SIX.BY SEVEN or six.by seven or six.byseven) are a Nottingham-based indie rock band who originally consisted of Chris Olley on vocals and guitars, James Flower on keyboards, Sam Hempton on guitar, Paul Douglas on bass and Chris Davis on drums. Exponents of building, atmospheric drone-rock, influenced heavily by bands such as My Bloody Valentine and Spacemen 3 they found a niche in the industry with a considerable underground following, but despite some attempts to commercialise their sound, this never crossed over into mainstream success. After splitting up in 2008, the band reformed in 2012 with Olley and Flower the only original members.

Formation

The group formed in Nottingham in 1996 after having played initially under the name "Friends Of..." since their first gig at the Old Angel in Nottingham in late 1992. After recording several demos and playing gigs, the band attracted record company interest, and played to a room full of A&R men in Leicester's Charlotte. The room emptied before the first 15-minute song was complete. Undeterred, the band continued to write and record. Bass player Paul Douglas joined later that year.

So Close (Jon McLaughlin song)

"So Close" is a song written by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz for Walt Disney Pictures' Enchanted. Performed by Jon McLaughlin, the song was released on November 20, 2007 in the United States as part of the soundtrack for Enchanted.

The song is a contemporary ballad that contrasts in style to songs featured in earlier parts of the film like "True Love's Kiss", "Happy Working Song" and "That's How You Know", which are sung by characters in the film. Unlike these songs, which were written in part as a parody of classic Disney films, the song is "totally genuine" in tone as it is used to express the emotional journey that the main character Giselle undergoes. Also unlike the two other songs, it received negative reviews from critics.

The song was a nominee at the 80th Academy Awards in the Best Original Song category, in which "Happy Working Song" and "That's How You Know" were also nominated.

16 to Life is a comedy film directed by Becky Smith and stars Hallee Hirsh as Kate, a bookish teen about to turn 16 who plays match-maker for her friends. Co-stars include: Shiloh Fernandez, Mandy Musgrave, Theresa Russell, Carson Kressley and Nicholas Downs. The film was originally titled “Duck Farm No. 13”, but was changed to appeal to younger audiences; it was filmed primarily in McGregor, Iowa and premiered August 29, 2009 at the Landlocked Film Festival.

Plot summary

It all starts in the morning when it is Kate birthday. She has never had her first kiss. She works in a store at the docks with her best friend who lost her virginity to a player. Kate's goal for her 16th birthday is to have her first kiss, which she does at the end of the movie.

Album (Land of the Lost)

"Album" is the seventh episode of the first season of the 1974 American television series Land of the Lost. Written by Dick Morgan and directed by Bob Lally, it first aired in the United States on October 19, 1974 on NBC. The episode guest stars Erica Hagen.

Plot

Will awakens in the early morning to a high-pitched whirring sound which fills the jungle, but eventually it goes away. Rick has Holly build a trap to catch whatever has been breaking into their stores, and Will goes to weed the garden. While outside, he again hears the sound and follows it to the Lost City. Within, he enters a chamber with a very crude-looking attempt to simulate a matrix table but filled with colored stones instead of crystals. On the ground is a pulsating blue crystal that attracts his attention. Picking it up, he sees his mother (Erica Hagen) materialize in a cloud of mist. Afterwards, he returns to High Bluff but doesn't speak of his encounter.

The next day Holly's trap has not worked, and Will again hears the sound. Holly hears it briefly as well, but dismisses it. Will returns to the Lost City and again witnesses his mother while holding a blue stone. His mother calls for him, but he is interrupted by Holly, who sees nothing until she touches the blue crystal as well. Holding it together, they are both beckoned by their mother to "come home," but then she quickly adds, "Too late. Come tomorrow. Don't tell." Will explains to Holly that he wants to tell Rick about his discovery but for some reason he is unable to. Holly replies that she will tell their father if he does not and Will sincerely hopes that she can. Will theorizes that they were looking through a time doorway that is open to a period when she was still alive. When Holly asks why her image is not very clear, her brother suggests that it might be because they do not remember her very well.
