VICE headed over to Belfast, in the lead up to this year's Twelfth parade, and tensions were running higher than any period in recent memory: It was only a few months since a 25-year-old Catholic police officer was murdered by dissident republicans (to dissuade others from joining the force) and just weeks after altercations between nationalists and unionists in east Belfast ended in riots and multiple shootings, including a cameraman. What better time to explore Belfast and marinate in the divisive hate?

Belfast is the capital city and largest city in Northern Ireland. This destination hasn't always been popular with visitors due to a conflict known as The Troubles; however, in recent years Belfast has experienced a resurgence and it's slowly starting to make a name for itself. 20 things to do in Belfast Travel Guide | Top Attractions Travel Video Transcript:
Well hello from Northern Ireland. This week we are traveling around Belfast and we only have three days in the capital so we're going to try and cover as much ground as we possibly can and show you some of the highlights.
The RMS Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time it entered service, and it was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The Titanic Belfast exhibition, tells the stories of the Titanic's ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912 and it is one of the top attractions in the city.
Right now we're on board the SS Nomadic, the little sister of the Titanic, and we're going to take a full tour of the ship.
The SS Nomadic was a steamship built as a tender to the RMS Titanic. It was her job to ferry passengers, baggage, and supplies to and from the shore.
Next up we are heading inside St George's Market, which we've been told is more than just a farmer's market. Apparently, aside from buying food there you can catch some live shows, go shopping for vintage items, jewelry. So we're going to head inside and see what it is like. And it is only open on the weekends.
Queen's University Belfast is one of the oldest universities in the United Kingdom. It also happens to have a really nice campus, so we decided to take a little stroll.
The Botanic Gardens first opened as a private garden in 1828, and for many years the public only had access on Sundays. Today anyone can visit and it's a beautiful place to walk around, especially if you luck out with sunshine.
So if you take a look at my pint over here you might be thinking I'm having Guinness. It does look a lot like Guinness but in fact it is Belfast Black. And I have to say it tastes just as good if not better.
For 360 degree views of Belfast, we recommend going to Victoria Square Shopping Centre, and riding the elevator up to the dome. This will give you a nice bird's eye view of Belfast.
So to wrap things up here in Belfast I'm going to mention three things I really liked about the city.
First off it is highly affordable. One of the best bargains you can get is a day pass for the bus. It's really cheap and it allows you to travel anywhere in the city unlimited usage.
Secondly, this is a very friendly city. Almost anytime we brought out a map we had a local coming up to offer help. And we just found that whenever we took taxi rides or were in restaurants locals really went the extra distance to make us feel welcome here.
And lastly this is a very walk-able city. Most of the attractions are clustered in the downtown area and you can reach most of them by foot.
And that's it for our quick trip to Belfast! As you can probably see, our visit was fairly short so we didn't get to do it all. If you have any suggestions of other sights and attractions worth checking out around Belfast, feel free to share those in the comments below.

Every year on July 12, many Protestants, loyalists, and unionists in Northern Ireland celebrate by lighting huge bonfires and marching through the streets playing music and saluting the Queen. This year, about 50,000 people reportedly took part all over the region.
"The Twelfth" is a particularly contentious period in the heavily divided Protestant/Catholic city of Belfast. After decades of conflict in Northern Ireland known as the Troubles — a political and sectarian war that claimed about 3,600 lives — there are still many people on each side who feel oppressed by the other. Riots involving rock throwing, Molotov cocktails, and even gunfire often erupt on or around the Twelfth. Problems are particularly commonplace as marchers head through Ardoyne, a heavily Catholic and nationalist area surrounded by Protestant neighborhoods.
Though the city's youngest adults can barely remember the Troubles themselves, they're increasingly becoming radicalized. Poverty in Belfast is at a 10-year high; unemployment hovers near 8 percent, with about one in four 18- to 24-year-olds out of work. And so with few jobs and often inadequate education, young men are indoctrinated by paramilitary groups still left over from the fighting of the past.
VICE News went to the biggest bonfire in Northern Ireland, on Belfast's notorious Shankill Road, to watch Protestants and loyalists celebrate — and drink, and fight, and burn Irish flags.

Belfast (from Irish: Béal Feirste, meaning "mouth of the shoal") is the capital of and largest city in Northern Ireland. By population, it is the fourteenth largest city in the United Kingdom and second largest on the island of Ireland. It is the seat of the devolved government and legislative Northern Ireland Assembly. The city of Belfast has a population of 267,500 and lies at the heart of the Belfast urban area, which has a population of 579,276. The Larger Urban Zone, as defined by the European Union, has a total population 641,638. Belfast was granted city status in 1888.
Historically, Belfast has been a centre for the Irish linen industry (earning the nickname "Linenopolis"), tobacco production, rope-making and shipbuilding: the city's main shipbuilders, Harland and Wolff, which built the well-known RMS Titanic, propelled Belfast on to the global stage in the early 20th century as the biggest and most productive shipyard in the world. Belfast played a key role in the Industrial Revolution, establishing its place as a global industrial centre until the latter half of the 20th century. Industrialisation and the inward migration it brought made Belfast, if briefly, the biggest city in Ireland at the turn of the 20th century and the city's industrial and economic success was cited by Ulster unionist opponents of Home Rule as a reason why Ireland should shun devolution and later why Ulster in particular would fight to resist it.

Poverty in Belfast is at a 10-year high; unemployment hovers near 8 percent, with about one in four 18- to 24-year-olds out of work. And so with few jobs and often inadequate education, young men are indoctrinated by paramilitary groups still left over from the fighting of the past. This destination hasn't always been popular with visitors due to a conflict known as The Troubles; however, in recent years Belfast has experienced a resurgence and it's slowly starting to make a name for itself. 20 things to do in Belfast Travel Guide | Top Attractions Travel Video Transcript:
Well hello from Northern Ireland. This week we are traveling around Belfast and we only have three days in the capital so we're going to try and cover as much ground as we possibly can and show you some of the highlights.
The RMS Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time it entered service, and it was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The Titanic Belfast exhibition, tells the stories of the Titanic's ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912 and it is one of the top attractions in the city.
Right now we're on board the SS Nomadic, the little sister of the Titanic, and we're going to take a full tour of the ship.
The SS Nomadic was a steamship built as a tender to the RMS Titanic. It was her job to ferry passengers, baggage, and supplies to and from the shore.
Next up we are heading inside St George's Market, which we've been told is more than just a farmer's market. Apparently, aside from buying food there you can catch some live shows, go shopping for vintage items, jewelry. So we're going to head inside and see what it is like. And it is only open on the weekends.
Queen's University Belfast is one of the oldest universities in the United Kingdom. It also happens to have a really nice campus, so we decided to take a little stroll.
The Botanic Gardens first opened as a private garden in 1828, and for many years the public only had access on Sundays. Today anyone can visit and it's a beautiful place to walk around, especially if you luck out with sunshine.
So if you take a look at my pint over here you might be thinking I'm having Guinness. It does look a lot like Guinness but in fact it is Belfast Black. And I have to say it tastes just as good if not better.
For 360 degree views of Belfast, we recommend going to Victoria Square Shopping Centre, and riding the elevator up to the dome. This will give you a nice bird's eye view of Belfast.
So to wrap things up here in Belfast I'm going to mention three things I really liked about the city.
First off it is highly affordable. One of the best bargains you can get is a day pass for the bus. It's really cheap and it allows you to travel anywhere in the city unlimited usage.
Secondly, this is a very friendly city. Almost anytime we brought out a map we had a local coming up to offer help. And we just found that whenever we took taxi rides or were in restaurants locals really went the extra distance to make us feel welcome here.
And lastly this is a very walk-able city. Most of the attractions are clustered in the downtown area and you can reach most of them by foot.
And that's it for our quick trip to Belfast! As you can probably see, our visit was fairly short so we didn't get to do it all. If you have any suggestions of other sights and attractions worth checking out around Belfast, feel free to share those in the comments below.

Every year on July 12, many Protestants, loyalists, and unionists in Northern Ireland celebrate by lighting huge bonfires and marching through the streets playing music and saluting the Queen. This year, about 50,000 people reportedly took part all over the region.
"The Twelfth" is a particularly contentious period in the heavily divided Protestant/Catholic city of Belfast. After decades of conflict in Northern Ireland known as the Troubles — a political and sectarian war that claimed about 3,600 lives — there are still many people on each side who feel oppressed by the other. Riots involving rock throwing, Molotov cocktails, and even gunfire often erupt on or around the Twelfth. Every year on July 12, many Protestants, loyalists, and unionists in Northern Ireland celebrate by lighting huge bonfires and marching through the streets playing music and saluting the Queen. This year, about 50,000 people reportedly took part all over the region.
"The Twelfth" is a particularly contentious period in the heavily divided Protestant/Catholic city of Belfast. After decades of conflict in Northern Ireland known as the Troubles — a political and sectarian war that claimed about 3,600 lives — there are still many people on each side who feel oppressed by the other. Riots involving rock throwing, Molotov cocktails, and even gunfire often erupt on or around the Twelfth. Belfast, located on the northeast coast of Ireland, is an eclectic mixture of history and modernity. Scattered throughout the countryside you’ll find Iron Age forts, medieval castles, and more modern construction dating to the 20th century. Belfast got on the fast track to modernizing in the 19th century, when it became known as a shipbuilding mecca. Among the famous vessels built at Belfast through the decades are the RMS Titanic and its sister ships, Olympic and Britannic.
A great deal of Belfast’s modern identity stems from over three decades of political and religious strife. These issues have influenced much of the city’s public art, as a great number of murals and statues depict people and events from those times. A walk around this easily accessible city is a walk through that troubled past.
You’ll probably be hungry after exploring so much of the city’s history on your Belfast tour, so swing on down to one of the local pubs to drink a pint and share a meal with some of the locals. Just walk down the street and head into what venue catches your eye; the city is easily navigable on foot, and you never know what sort of delightful gallery, park, or restaurant you’re going to find just around the bend.

Scattered throughout the countryside you’ll find Iron Age forts, medieval castles, and more modern construction dating to the 20th century. Belfast got on the fast track to modernizing in the 19th century, when it became known as a shipbuilding mecca. Among the famous vessels built at Belfast through the decades are the RMS Titanic and its sister ships, Olympic and Britannic.
A great deal of Belfast’s modern identity stems from over three decades of political and religious strife. These issues have influenced much of the city’s public art, as a great number of murals and statues depict people and events from those times. A walk around this easily accessible city is a walk through that troubled past.
You’ll probably be hungry after exploring so much of the city’s history on your Belfast tour, so swing on down to one of the local pubs to drink a pint and share a meal with some of the locals. Just walk down the street and head into what venue catches your eye; the city is easily navigable on foot, and you never know what sort of delightful gallery, park, or restaurant you’re going to find just around the bend.

Welcome to Belfast Castle, a striking former home perched atop the rolling green hills of Cavehill County Park.
When you tour Belfast Castle, you’ll learn that the structure is actually the third castle to bear that moniker. The original Belfast Castle was constructed by the Normans in the 12th century; Sir Arthur Chichester built a replacement over its bones in the 1600s. That building burned down in 1708, and this version did not begin construction until 1811. It took over 60 years to finish the third incarnation of Belfast Castle, with the final bricks being laid in 1870.
Anyone sightseeing at Belfast Castle will notice its striking sandstone walls, which give the castle its distinctive reddish-brown hue. Meander through the quiet, peaceful gardens, and stop to snap some photos of downtown Belfast and the stunning Belfast Lough. Enjoy a meal at the restaurant, or just share a quiet cup of tea with some traveling companions.
After a day of tourism at Belfast Castle, head into Belfast proper for a pint at a pub, or wander through the art collections at Ulster Museum. Don’t forget to spend a few hours in the Botanic Gardens, which are sure to dazzle you.

So Hello from London! Time for a new destination. This is a city that I haven't visited in almost 4 years and it is actually Sam's very first time here. So we're both very excited to be in London. And we're going to be making a little video guide. Actually a really big video guide because we plan on showing you 50 different things to do around London. So let's get started.
Our first stop was Trafalgar Square. This square leads to a lot of central attractions, so it's a nice place to people watch, get your bearings, and plan out where you want to go in the city.
The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the Thames. It offers a bird's eye view of the city - just make sure you don't go on a foggy day.
Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence for Britain's sovereigns since 1837. The State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every year, however, that's something that you need to plan months in advance.
The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament, is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The Palace along with Big Ben are two of the top London attractions that dot the city-scape.
The Tower of London sits on the north bank of the River Thames. Though this castle served many purposes, it's mainly remembered for its use as a prison in the 16th and 17th centuries.
And that's a wrap for London! Like with any mega city, it's impossible to cover all the sights and attractions you can enjoy here, but hopefully this video will give you an idea of what London has to offer. Built by Messrs Harland & Wolff of Belfast in 1936, HMS Belfast was commissioned into the Royal Navy on 5 August 1939 under the command of Captain G A Scott DSO RN. Designed for the protection of trade and offensive action she was the largest and most powerful light cruiser in the Royal Navy. She served throughout World War Two escorting arctic supply convoys to Russia, a role which resulted in her facing the the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst in the Battle of the North Cape. Today she continues to serve as a museum ship, anchored on the Thames River between Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Designed for the protection of trade and offensive action she was the largest and most powerful light cruiser in the Royal Navy. She served throughout World War Two escorting arctic supply convoys to Russia, a role which resulted in her facing the the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst in the Battle of the North Cape.
Today she continues to serve as a museum ship, anchored on the Thames River between Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. I paid her a visit accompanied by Rita Gamer and Sidestrafe, my very own tame Canadian.

Hunters from Outwest Farms located in Okeechobee, Florida have posted an image showing a massive, near 15-foot, 780 pound alligator they found and killed. According to CNN, the huge reptile was discovered on Saturday on one of the ponds located on a private ranch owned by Outwest Farms owner Lee Lightsey ... They were surprised when they came across this huge alligator instead ... I hate seeing a beautiful dinosaur like that killed.???? #RIP....
