Steven Mackintosh (born 30 April 1967) is an English actor.
Mackintosh was born in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, the son of Dorothy Parris and Malcolm Mackintosh. He has a sister, Lynda. He is married to the actress Lisa Jacobs and they have two daughters, Martha Mackintosh and Blythe Mackintosh.
Mackintosh's first film appearance was in Prick Up Your Ears. He went on to star in Memphis Belle, Twelfth Night, and David Leland's Land Girls with Rachel Weisz and Anna Friel. He played Winston in Guy Ritchie's film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. His other notable films include Roger Michell's The Mother, The Jacket, Good with Viggo Mortensen, Underworld: Evolution and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. He played Tony in Rupert Wyatt's feature The Escapist and Kertzer in Film 4's The Scouting Book For Boys. Mackintosh played Ivan Lewis in the big screen version of The Sweeney. He played Jack in Set Fire to the Stars with Elijah Wood and worked with Michael Caton Jones for the second time on his film Urban Hymn.
The Sweeney is a 1970s British television police drama focusing on two members of the Flying Squad, a branch of the Metropolitan Police specialising in tackling armed robbery and violent crime in London. The programme's title derives from Sweeney Todd, which is Cockney rhyming slang for "Flying Squad".
The programme was shot entirely on 16mm film by Thames Television's film division, Euston Films. It originally broadcast on ITV between 2 January 1975 and 28 December 1978 at 21:00–22:00 weekday (usually Monday) with repeated showings at the same time until the early 1980s. It starred John Thaw as Detective Inspector Jack Regan, and Dennis Waterman as his partner Detective Sergeant George Carter. Such was its popularity in the UK that it spawned two cinema released feature film spin-offs, Sweeney! and Sweeney 2.
The series was broadcast during a dark period for the real-life Flying Squad, which in the late 1970s had been publicly censured for being involved in bribery, police corruption and excessively close links with the criminal fraternity. Unlike the unwavering high standards seen in the fictional Sweeney, the actual commander of the Flying Squad, Detective Chief Superintendent Kenneth Drury was convicted of five counts of corruption and imprisoned for eight years on 7 July 1977. An internal investigation, called Operation Countryman, was then launched to further stamp out corruption. A further 12 officers were convicted and many others resigned.
BBC Worldwide Ltd. is the wholly owned commercial subsidiary of the BBC, formed out of a restructuring of its predecessor BBC Enterprises in 1995. The company monetizes BBC brands, sells BBC and other British programming for broadcast abroad with the aim of supplementing the income received by the BBC through the licence fee.
In 2013/14, BBC Worldwide generated headline profits of £157.4m and headline sales of £1,042.3m and returned £173.8m to the BBC.
In 2012/13 it made a profit of £156.3m on a turnover of £1,115.8m. The company had made a profit of £104m on a turnover of £1,085m in the previous financial year.
BBC Worldwide's profit rate was 11.2% in 2011/2012, up slightly from 9.6% the previous year, down from a peak of 21.5% in 2002/2003, contrasting with 7.8% in 2003/2004.
In addition to broadcasting, the BBC has for much of its life also produced additional materials for sale, the profits of which would be returned to the corporation to aid in the financing of these services. The highest profile of these early products was the listings magazine Radio Times, however the net revenue gained from this in 1928 (£93,686, 10s, 1d) only equated to 10% of total BBC income.

Steven Mackintosh stars in a hard-hitting drama for BBC ONE about a man whose life spirals out of control, drawing him back to his far right past. Writer Frank Deasy says: "This is the story of one man's disintegration but it is also about the way the demonisation of Islam in the UK is feeding a far right in Britain that is as racist and violent as it ever was." Mackintosh plays Ray, a responsible family man, fiercely protective of his daughter Nikki who lives with his estranged wife. Antonia Bird's first feature length film; "Safe" from 1993, focused on the plight of the homeless in London, this powerful drama written by Al Ashton (The Firm) starred Kate Hardie, Aidan Gillen, Robert Carlyle, Steven Mackintosh, Andrew Tiernan, Joe Swash and Marsha Thomason. Never released on DVD, converted from an old VHS I had uncovered, posting this in memory of Antonia Bird who sadly passed away this year. A great loss to British Drama. Please be advised that there are scenes of nudity and violence and some swearing, therefore this might not be suitable for younger viewers.

What does “integral” really mean anyway? Integral writer and activist Steve McIntosh leads a discussion of this emerging perspective, which fosters the evolution of consciousness in ourselves and others, and provides powerful solutions to the world’s most urgent problems. The integral or evolutionary way of understanding things really is a “higher form of consciousness” than what is currently offered in our culture. Even if you are familiar with Integral philosophy, Steve’s fresh insights will deepen your grasp of this exciting new worldview.
