The system has failed us all miserably. There is no democracy and we the people have an obligation to demand justice for all. The current status quo in so called Canada serves only the elite few while the majority of Canadians are financial slaves to the system. Politicians do not represent the people, nor have they ever. Indigenous communities know this all too well and have been actively resisting subjugation since contact with the first colonizers who illegally imposed their jurisdiction through covert biological warfare and the ongoing genocide implemented with the residential school system.
The residential schools took the children from the land to disconnect people from their culture in order to take the land from the children. The genocide is ongoing, we still see the constant removal of indigenous children from their ancestral lineages and the untimely deaths of so many indigenous men, women and children. Indigenous peoples are over-represented in the (in)justice system and homeless populations are disproportionately indigenous. The systemic racism in the RCMP and Police forces negates any effective justice from taking place. This is the reason why so many indigenous women have gone missing or been murdered without any real action to prevent further violence.
Everything is interconnected. This government blatantly oppresses indigenous peoples in a calculated effort to create dysfunction within communities to maintain control of the land and exploitation of natural resources. The rape and destruction of our mother earth is another facet of the ongoing genocide which holds no prejudice affecting all children of the earth. We are all directly affected by ecocide.
Make no mistake that systemic racism and structural violence are connected to the needs of this illegal colonial state to maintain control of the land for exploitation. That is why we must call attention to these issues at the same time - the tars sands, the pipelines, fracking, mining, mega-dam projects and justice for #MMIW -- it's all connected.

A little bit about myself:
My name is Taylor Bamford. I am in my first year at McGill University, in Montreal, Canada. I have lived in Vancouver my whole life and I love the city that I’m from, but leaving home for school was an adventure that I was eager to tackle. I am an enthusiastic and driven individual and I love physical activity and meeting new people. I have played sports for most of my life and have learned the importance of being apart of a team. Some of the connections with people that I hold dearest to my heart were made through the process of teamwork. I love to coach, being a role model for younger people is something that I take very seriously and that I value immensely. Planning events and activities where people can come together to make new connections is something that I am very passionate about. I possess great organizational skills that come in handy when planning these events. I attended French Immersion all through elementary school and high school and I continue to use my French everyday in Montreal! Having a second language is something that I am very proud of and that I strive to maintain. My personal attributes have been refined and strengthened through the many leadership roles that I have taken on in the past years. I am keen to share my attributes with the rest of society!
This video is in response to the activity asked of the application for the position of Community Relations Staff at Port Metro Vancouver. The video explains what Port Metro Vancouver and Canada Place mean to the local and national community and economy.

Travel video about destination Vancouver in Canada.
Vancouver is the third largest city in Canada and one of the most beautiful on the American continent, a dynamic metropolis set in a beautiful location with a temperate climate throughout the year.
Close to the harbor area, the city's skyscrapers have proliferated in recent years. The capital of the southwestern province of British Columbia has developed into an economic centre of renown.
The city's oldest buildings were built less than 100 years ago because the former wooden houses of old Vancouver were destroyed by fire. Several buildings reflect the origin of their inhabitants and are similar to those in the United States and Europe.
Inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, an elegant structure of pink stone and glass, Canada Place, is located in the busy centre of the new harbor district and is also the city's most recent landmark. Close by is Harbor Centre, a modern skyscraper complex with a shopping centre and a Skylift to the top floor. A glass elevator transports visitors to a 167-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbor and bay is overwhelming.
The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably.
For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown, gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou, China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design.
Everything in Vancouver is youthful, attractive and dynamic, a place in which Canadian politeness unites with the Pacific way of life!

Welcome to Toronto, the largest city in Canada and a hub of trade and culture.
“The City That Works” is full of a can-do spirit that is reflected in its buildings. From the famous CN Tower to the castle-like Casa Loma, there’s all sorts of eye candy for the architecture enthusiast. Your Toronto tour should include a trip to Edward Gardens in Hyde Park, or one of the many other green spaces located in the city. Take a bike ride along the trails, or enjoy a picnic while the local chipmunks look on. Don’t drop anything; they’ll grab it.
Your Toronto sightseeing can continue at the Harborfront Center. Go for a walk along the marina, or grab a pint at a brewhouse. And no trip to Toronto is complete without a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame, so make sure you’ve got your team paraphernalia in order before you venture inside. Looking for shopping? You’ll find the Underground City and Kensington Market ready to welcome you and your credit card – or several credit cards, as the case may be. After a day of madcap purchasing, why not stock up on fresh, healthy food at the St. Lawrence Market? You’ll have worked up quite an appetite for delicious local produce.
Before you leave, head to Niagara Falls and take in the spectacle of nature’s power. You’ll never forget the sight and sound of all that water pouring over the falls, nor will you ever forget your trip to Toronto.

With a population of only 300,000, Iceland can feel like the most isolated place on earth, yet its capital Reykjavik, is only a three-hour flight from London and just under six from New York.
Reykjavik is relaxed and welcoming, yet possesses a cultural life that holds its own against other European capitals. Most buildings are built simple and low to beat the North Atlantic winds. However, the city is also graced with grand civic architecture inspired by Iceland’s natural beauty, such as the soaring central tower of Hallgrímskirkja.
Many of the country’s most popular sights are within easy reach of Reykjavík. Immerse yourself in the spirit of Iceland, at the Blue Lagoon. Then spend a day or two in The Golden Circle, an area which encompasses three of Iceland’s greatest natural wonders; Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Field, and Gullfoss.
Iceland’s main ring road strings together an endless series of epic landscapes. Less than two hours drive east of Reykjavik are two of the world’s most beautiful waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Continue eastward towards Vík, Iceland’s southern-most village, where you’ll find the dramatic landscapes of Black Beach, Reynisdrangar, and Dyrholaey. Follow the ring road for another two hours into the ethereal light of Jökulsárlón Lake, where icebergs break away from Europe’s largest glacier and float for years before tumbling out to sea.
Head north and feel the earth rumble at Europe’s mightiest waterfall, Dettifoss. Then explore the Myvatn region, a tranquil lake surrounded by nature in all its violent beauty. Take a careful walk through the boiling landscape of Namafjall, lose yourself amid the lava pillars of Dimmuborgir, and peer into the caldera of Krafla Volcano.
Known as the Capital of the North, Akureyri is the perfect place to warm up and enjoy some creature comforts, before heading off into the wilds again. In Iceland, every side road is a story waiting to unfold. So come, and live your own Icelandic story, it’s one you’ll keep telling for the rest of your days.

Shimmering skyscrapers and colourful heritage homes, culturally diverse neighbourhoods crammed with indie stores, cool eateries and nanobreweries, kayaking on the ocean and skiing in the mountains: this is Vancouver.
It's no wonder the successful host of the 2010 Winter Olympics features near the top of the world's most liveable cities surveys, with its meld of stylish 21st-century architecture, regenerated industrial districts and laid-back beachside neighbourhoods. Look down any street downtown and there's a strong chance you'll catch a glimpse of the North Shore Mountains, the sea or both.
The West End is chock-a-block full of juice bars and coffee shops, with colourful Davie Street home to a large gay community. In revitalised Yaletown, designer boutiques and trendy restaurants fill former warehouses, with diners spilling onto busy patios in summer. Historic Gastown and the adjacent Downtown Eastside are undergoing a stratospheric gentrification, with new condos, restaurants and high-end shops taking over decrepit or demolished buildings, sometimes controversially; hipsters and homeless rub shoulders in this rapidly evolving district.
Wave after wave of new immigrants have given Vancouver its cosmopolitan feel -- a whopping 40% of its population is foreign-born, meaning you can uncover an eclectic array of cuisines and cultures. In particular, arrivals from mainland China mean one in five of the city's residents is now of Chinese origin. Chinatown is jammed with noodle houses, bakeries, medicine shops and a lively market. Meanwhile, multicultural Commercial Drive is lined with Italian cafés and delis, and vibrant Punjabi Market is a bustling South Asian hub.
Vancouverites live for the outdoors. Year-round, hordes of joggers, in-line skaters and cyclists jostle for space on the seawall while hard-core runners pound up the lung-bustingly steep Grouse Grind trail. There are countless opportunities for rafting, mountain biking, camping and skiing; sports junkies can ski one of three local mountains and sail in English Bay on the same day.
Visitor attractions are world class too, whether you choose to edge your way round the vertigo-inducing Cliffwalk at Capilano Bridge Suspension Park, eye up ethereal jellyfish at the Vancouver Aquarium or take to the skies in a simulated helicopter ride at Flyover Canada.
Locals are known for being environmentally conscious. Vancouver has the smallest per capita carbon footprint of any North American city. Greenpeace was founded here, the public transit system is excellent and well used, bike routes are being created and improved, and the population embraces the culture of growing and buying locally. Through its Greenest City plan, Vancouver aims to become the greenest city in the world by 2020 with an ambitious vision for sustainability, zero waste and zero carbon.
All this does come at a cost to locals however: Vancouver is the most expensive place in Canada to buy a house. In 2013, the penthouse unit at the Fairmont Pacific Rim sold for a record C$25 million. Even the average detached house sells for over C$1 million. Fortunately, if you're here on holiday, you can forget about spending your life savings on a pied-à-terre and instead check in to one of Vancouver's many super-chic hotels.
