Following the Muslim conquest of Hispania, Al-Andalus was divided into five administrative areas roughly corresponding to Andalusia, Galicia and Portugal, Castile and León, Aragon and Catalonia, and Septimania.[4] As a political domain or domains, it successively constituted a province of the Umayyad Caliphate, initiated by the Caliph Al-Walid I (711--750); the Emirate of Córdoba (c. 750--929); the Caliphate of Córdoba (929--1031); and the Caliphate of Córdoba's taifa (successor) kingdoms. Rule under these kingdoms saw the rise in cultural exchange and cooperation between Christians, Muslims, and Jews. Under the Caliphate of Córdoba, al-Andalus was a beacon of learning, and the city of Córdoba became one of the leading cultural and economic centres in both the Mediterranean Basin and the Islamic world.

This is the final part exploring Moorish Architecture and I dedicate this concluding part to
the Iberian peninsula.
Excellent examples of this Architecture is to be found in abundance in Iberia
ranging from infrastructure like bridges, roads, water irrigation canals .. to elaborate
palaces and impressive castles.
I hope that these Videos have shed some light into who the Moors were and perhaps
Make those who watch these videos seriously question the ridiculous claims made
American Black Supremacists who propagate the fantasy that Moorish civilisation
came from Sub-Saharan Africa.

Moorish architecture is the western term used to describe the articulated Berber-Islamic architecture of North Africa, Al-Andalus, and Al-Garb Al-Andalus.
Characteristic elements include muqarnas, horseshoe arches, voussoirs, domes, crenellated arches, lancet arches, ogee arches, courtyards, and decorative tile work.
Among the surviving examples are the Mezquita in Cordoba (784-987, in four phases); the Alhambra (mainly 1338-1390) and Generalife (1302–9 and 1313–24) in Granada and the Giralda in Seville in 1184;Paderne Castle in the Algarve, Portugal; the mosque of Koutoubia and University of Al-Karaouine in Morocco; the Great Mosque of Algiers and the Great Mosque of Tlemcen in Algeria; and the Mosque of Uqba in Kairouan, Tunisia.
Other notable examples include the ruined palace city of Medina Azahara (936-1010), the church (former mosque) San Cristo de la Luz in Toledo, the Aljafería in Zaragoza and baths at for example Ronda and Alhama de Granada.
The term is sometimes used to include the products of the Islamic civilisation of Southern Italy. The Palazzo dei Normanni in Sicily was begun in the 9th century by the Emir of Palermo.

This third part of Moorish Architecture we dedicate it to Tunisia that has its own flavour of Moorish Architecture with an interesting blend of Romano-Byzantine Architecture. Tunisia has the oldest Islamic remains in North Africa and has been part of the Almuwahid dynasty that united Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Al Andalus (Muslim parts of Iberia). The Almuwahid dynasty was very prolific in building many well known Architectural marvels in North Africa and Spain Such as la Giralda in Seville that stated its life as a mosque and its sister tower al Kutubia Mosque/Library in Marrakesh. -

Moorish Architecture has its own characteristics and signature It is impossible to mistake it for any other form or architecture. Across the Islamic world you'll find distinct architectural variations but to inexperienced western eye it may all look similar. In this Video I'm exploring Morocco's huge wealth of Moorish Architectural heritage that can be seen all over the country. The Koutoubia Minaret and the Hassan tower shown in this video are excellent examples of Moorish architecture. -

This is a continuation on exploring Moorish Architecture in North Africa. This part 2 looks at Algeria's Moorish Heritage ancient and present. These images depict the rich regional variations and the omnipresent Moorish character. One Ancient site is particularly interesting and that is Kalaat bani hamad in Kabylie declared unesco world heritage site. This fortified Berber city of the Hammadid dynasty was founded in 1007 but completely destroyed in 1152 by the Berber rival Almuwahid dynasty. The tower of beni hammad was first of its kind and served as an Architectural blueprint for building the famous Koutoubia mosque in Marrakesh that was completed under the Almowahad Caliph Yaqub al-Mansur. -

Tunisia that has its own flavour of Moorish Architecture
with an interesting blend of Romano-Byzantine Architecture.
Tunisia has the oldest Islamic remains in North Africa and has
been part of the Almuwahid dynasty that united Tunisia, Algeria,
Morocco and Al Andalus (Muslim parts of Iberia).
The Almuwahid dynasty was very prolific in building many
well known Architectural marvels in North Africa and Spain
Such as la Giralda in Seville that stated its life as a mosque
and its sister tower al Kutubia Mosque/Library in Marrakesh.

The Ridehalgh Quilt, made between 1860 and 1890 by the servants at Fell Foot House, an estate in the Lake District, is by contrast an immensely sophisticated geometric composition that recalls both Moorish architectural decoration and the op-art movement in painting of the 1960s.
