Jagjit Singh, born Jagmohan Singh (8 February 1941 – 10 October 2011), was a prominent Indian Ghazal singer, composer and musician. Known as the "Ghazal King", he gained acclaim together with his wife, another renowned Indian ghazal singer Chitra Singh in the 1970s and 1980s. Their combination album comprising music from the films, Arth and Saath Saath is the HMV's largest selling combination album of all time. Sajda (An Offering, 1991), Jagjit Singh's magnum opus double album with Lata Mangeshkar holds the same record in non-film category. He sang in numerous languages. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the government of India in 2003. In February 2014, Government of India released a postal stamp in his honour.
Singh is credited for the revival and popularity of ghazal, an Indian classical art form, by choosing poetry that was relevant to the masses and composing them in a way that laid more emphasis on the meaning of words and melody evoked by them. In terms of Indian Classical music, his style of composing and Gayaki (singing) is considered as Bol-pradhan, one that lays emphasis on words. He highlighted this in his music for films such as Prem Geet (1981), Arth and Saath Saath (1982), and TV serials Mirza Ghalib (1988) and Kahkashan (1991). Jagjit Singh is considered to be the most successful ghazal singer and composer of all time in terms of critical acclaim and commercial success. With a career spanning five decades and a repertoire comprising over 80 albums, the range and breadth of his work has been regarded as genre-defining. He is the only composer and singer to have composed and recorded songs written by former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee – also a poet – in two albums, Nayi Disha (1999) and Samvedna (2002).
Padmini Kolhapure (Marathi: पद्मिनी कोल्हापुरे; born 1 November 1965) is an Indian actress who appeared primarily in Bollywood films during the 1980s. She made her television debut portraying Pallavi Modi in the Sony Entertainment Television India series Ekk Nayi Pehchaan.
Padmini Kolhapure was born second among the three daughters of Pandharinath Kolhapure, a professional musician, by his wife Anupama Kolhapure. Her younger sisters are the former actress Tejaswini Kolhapure, and Shivangi Kapoor, wife of actor Shakti Kapoor and mother of actress Shraddha Kapoor.
Padmini's family belongs to the Gomantak Maratha Samaj, the major Devadasi community of Maharashtra state, whose ancestral vocation is the performing arts (singing and dancing). The family took the surname "Kolhapure" because they hailed from Kolhapur. Padmini's father, Pandharinath Kolhapure, was a talented vocalist and Veena player. He was the son of Master Krishna Rao (sometimes referred to as Krishnarao Kolhapure), an exponent of Natya Sangeet who had enjoyed the patronage of the Baroda Durbar. Pandharinath's mother was the sister of Master Deenanath Mangeshkar, and the natural sister of Balwantrao Abhisheki, the father of vocalist Jitendra Abhisheki. Thus, Padmini is a niece of legendary singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle. Indeed, the two families has always enjoyed close ties. Master Krishna Rao and his brother-in-law Master Deenanath Mangeshkar, together with Chintamanrao Kolhatkar, had once founded their own theatre troupe known as "Balwant Mandali," which however met with only moderate success. Padmini's mother, Anupama Kolhapure, was born into a Konkani-speaking Saraswat Brahmin family belonging to Mangalore in Karnataka. She formerly used to work as ground staff with Air India.
Ratan (Pradeep Kumar) is a well-educated but unemployed man in love with Bimla (Nishi), the daughter of a very wealthy man. She begs him to elope with her after her father (Amar) fixes her marriage with someone else. Reluctantly he agrees on the condition that she come with him with none of the trappings—no jewelry, nothing—of her formerly wealthy life so that nobody will misunderstand his intentions. They take a train to Bombay together, leaving Ratan’s ailing sister Babli in the care of faithful family retainer Shambhu Kaka (Radheshyam). In the city, they find squalid housing and we are treated to a long sequence to pound home the message that if it weren’t for bad luck, job seeker Ratan would have no luck at all. It goes on for so long that I begin to wonder if the “fade out-fade in” te...

One of things I find so fascinating about Hindi cinema is how many people there are who had the ability to carry a film no matter how dreary the story and their co-stars. That some of these people have been almost criminally ignored, by and large, is a subject for another day. I would not have made it through this one without the sparkly and mesmerizing presence of Minoo Mumtaz. She has some support in the presence of Anwar Hussain, a spectacular Helen dance and lovely songs from Ravi; but even Kum Kum can’t overcome her sanctimonious dialogues and Nishi has the dubious honor of playing one of the most hateful female characters ever. Pradeep Kumar is the nominal hero and I will leave that to speak for itself. [ HD] [HQ] One of the best song in Classic Movie Box Must see , share to others ...
