Windows 9x is a generic term referring to a series of Microsoft Windows computer operating systems produced from 1995 to 2000, which were based on the Windows 95 kernel and its underlying foundation of MS-DOS, both of which were updated in subsequent versions. This includes all versions of Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME.
Windows 9x is predominantly known for its use in desktops. In 1998, Windows made up 82% of operating system market share.
Internal release versions for versions of Windows 9x are 4.x. Previous MS-DOS based versions of Windows used version numbers of 3.2 or lower. Windows NT, which was aimed at professional users such as networks and businesses, used a similar but separate version number between 3.1 and 4.0.
The final version of Windows 9x was Windows ME, released in September 2000 with an internal version number of 4.9. All future versions of Windows, starting with Windows 2000 and Windows XP, would be based on the Windows NT codebase.

Interstate '76 is a vehicular combat game set in an alternate 1976. Here, the gas crises continues on, and law enforcement is useless. All that is standing between the criminal underbelly and their goals of continuing the crises are you and your car. Your car, strapped on with a wide variety of weapons, is about as bad ass a car as you're ever going to drive. With the addition of some funky tunes, you're bound to be transported to the 70's with ease. Released for Windows 9x. Part arcade action, part simulation, and part movie. A game that should have given Grand Theft Auto a ride for its money but faded into obscurity instead. This video features my thoughts and review of this classic game. More at the forum (http://www.windowsonwindows.net) and on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/TweeterSky17). In this bonus episode, I take a look at Windows Fundamentals For Legacy PCs ("FLP"), a little-known official Microsoft modification of Windows XP, designed for businesses still using hardware designed for Windows 9x to be able to run a more modern, safe and stable OS on their PCs. I end with a little fun trying to run the system on 64MB and 32MB RAM to see what happens. In this video I also briefly discuss the different Windows XP visual styles that are available. Check out the amazing "Night Time Bliss" wallpaper by Jayro-Jones, as seen in the video: http://jayro-jones.deviantart.com/art/Night-Time-Bliss-XP-Wallpaper-437478130

GOG.com is a good source for early Windows 95 and 98 3D games, some using 3dfx glide but also DirectX or Open GL. Many users on have built Windows 9x Retro Gaming PCs and might be interested in purchasing cheap games on GOG.com with the intend on playing them on their Windows 9x Retro Gaming PCs. Unfortunately the GOG.com installer doesn't run on Windows 9x. In this video I will show you a workaround which involves extracting the GOG.com installer and copying the game folder onto your Windows 9x Retro Gaming PC. This works for many games but obviously not all of them, specifically when they use registry entries. For games that use 3dfx glide, references to nGlide must be remove in order for a real 3dfx Voodoo to render the game. I am also showing this in this video.
So it's been awhile, but today I tour you around my custom built windows 98 PC, ramble on abit and play some games on it. As always, please enjoy.
