Love Your Liver and Live Longer
Love Your Liver and Live Longer FATTY LIVER What is it? Fatty liver is also known as NASH, which stands for Non- Alcoholic Steatorrhoeic Hepatosis or Non-Alcoholic-Fatty-Liver-Disease (NAFLD) but don't be put off by these big terms -- they just mean that your liver is being invaded with fat! Fatty liver or NASH, is very common in overweight persons, over the age of 30. A fatty liver contains an excessive amount of fat and the normal healthy liver tissue is partly replaced with areas of unhealthy fats. In such a liver, the liver cells and the spaces in the liver are filled with fat so the liver becomes slightly enlarged and heavier. The liver has a yellow greasy appearance. There may be discomfort over the liver, which is situated in the right upper abdominal area. There may be gallstones composed of cholesterol and bile salts. It is often possible to see the excess fat in the liver in an ultrasound scan of the liver. There may also be elevation of the liver enzymes. Liver dysfunction is very common and an increasing problem. How do you know if you have a fatty liver? You will probably be overweight, especially in the abdominal area You will find it very hard to lose weight You may have elevated cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood You may have Syndrome X You may have diabetes type 2 You will be very tired You may have problems with your immune system The consequences of a fatty liver The healthy liver regulates fat metabolism and is the major fat-burning organ in ...

Gastric banding surgery for fatty liver disease
Fatty liver disease can range from fatty liver alone (steatosis) to fatty liver associated with inflammation (steatohepatitis). This condition can occur with the use of alcohol (alcohol-related fatty liver) or in the absence of alcohol (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease [NAFLD]). Fatty liver can be associated with the use of alcohol. This may occur with as little as 10 oz of alcohol ingested per week. Identical lesions also can be caused by other diseases or toxins. If steatohepatitis is present but a history of alcohol use is not, the condition is termed nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Fatty change in the liver results from excessive accumulation of lipids within hepatocytes. Simple fatty liver is believed to be benign, but NASH can progress to cirrhosis and can be associated with hepatocellular carcinoma. The main risk factors for simple fatty liver (NAFLD) and NASH are obesity, diabetes, high triglyceride levels, or a high fat diet.

Moderate Alcohol Consumption Reduces the Risk of Hepatitis
A team of scientists at the UCSD School of Medicine reports that 1-2 daily servings of alcohol is significantly associated with lower risk of steatohepatitis and fibrosis. This is a cross-sectional analysis of 251 lifetime non-drinkers and 331 modest drinkers with NAFLD who were enrolled in NIH NASH Clinical Research Network (CRN). Note: The result of the study may not be applicable for everyone. Drink responsibly! Reference: Dunn, W., Sanyal, AJ, Brunt, EM, Unalp-Arida, A., Donohue, M., McCullough, AJ, & Schwimmer, JB (2012). Modest alcohol consumption is associated with decreased prevalence of steatohepatitis in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Journal of Hepatology. doi:10.1016/j.jhep.2012.03.024 Correction* it's NAFLD not NFDL

Natural Health Tip #23 - Benefits of Detox
www.naturalfoodsdiet.org "Natural Health Tip #23 - Benefits of Detox" Researchers have recently reported that the prevelance of Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) in children has drastically risen. NAFLD is increasing faster than the prevelance of obesity, yet our government is so focused on obesity and putting us on low-fat diets. The root cause of these problems are toxins in the body, particularly obesigens. Maybe the smartest solution is to decrease the crap coming in and increase the toxins going out. New non-invasive test for fatty liver disease diagnosis developed
A collaboration with OWL Genomics, CIBERehd and eleven hospitals and research centres from Spain, France and United States, has developed the first metabolome-based serum test for the non-invasive diagnostic of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or NAFLD Diagnosis for NASH, an advanced NAFLD disease, is presently done trough a liver biopsy, an invasive, subjective procedure with potential complications

Progression Of Liver Disease Stages - Fatty Liver, Fibrosis, Cirrhosis, Necrosis, Cancer & Failure
liverdouche.com http Liver disease is a progressive disease that can lead to liver cancer and liver failure if left untreated. The progression of liver disease starts with a healthy liver then through unhealthy diet such as over eating, fatty meals, chips, fries, deep fried foods, etc the liver begins to build up fat tissue and fatty deposits. Once 10% or more of the liver is comprised of fatty tissue it is considered a fatty liver. There are two kinds of fatty liver disease, alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD) and non alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD). When the liver becomes fatty it enlarges and inflames causing the tissue to eventually form scar tissue. Once the liver begins to scar from the constant inflammation it becomes a fibrosis liver also known as liver fibrosis or fibrosis of the liver. There are 6 stages of liver fibrosis with 6 having the most scarring. Once the entire surface of the liver becomes scarred it goes into cirrhosis of the liver. Liver cirrhosis also has 6 stages. Cirrhosis of the liver in the later stages 4,5, & 6 is much harder to reverse than in stages 1,2 & 3. After stage 6 liver cirrhosis the liver enters necrosis of the liver. At this advanced stage of liver disease there is much less one can do to reverse it but one may be able to prolong the life of the liver. Once a person has fibrosis of the liver or cirrhosis of the liver there is a much larger chance of liver cancer. After necrosis if liver failure and we all know what that means ...
