Visit Grand Bassin Lake in Mauritius Grand Bassam located in a plateau, is the most famous lake of the island. In 1890, the Hindu priest, Ihomun Gosanye had a vision. Built on this, he tried to convince the people to go on a pilgrimage. When at 600 meters they reached the shining lake that was shaped in the crater of the extinct volcano, they said he recognized the presence of God. Since then, the vague has been a place of pilgrimage with lots of myths and legends connected to it. The most well-known religious folklore tells about the fairies called Apsaras. The Ramajanas celebrates the beauty of these celestial nymphs, and they appear not only in the folklore of India, but all over southeastern Asia. Many old Indians say that they have seen these creatures singing, dancing, and playing on the shore of the lake. We can surely consider this as being an exaggerated religious trance. Many think that these fairies are able to influence people's lives. The women pray to them hoping for a child or happiness in love. At the shrines near the lake, life size rainbow-colored statues watch wisely smiling at the nosy visitors arriving from afar. Life is busy at the shore of Grand Bassam especially in February when the Maja Shivaratri celebration is held. Richly-decorated Hindus go on a pilgrimage to the sacred place to take the water of the lake home and pour it in their Shiva statue. The Holi, due one month later is a cheerful and colorful festival full of a band. At this time, the defeat of the demon king is celebrated; but, the outward appearance reminds us more of picnic. Tea from Mauritius belongs to the top category. It's grown on a territory of center plateau. The most famous teas from the world originate India and China where cultivation and breeding of this plant were first done. As a majority of inhabitants of Mauritius are Hindus, and a small proportion is Chinese, we can understand why they treat the Bwa Shari Tea Plantation with such meticulous care. A road bordered by royal palms leads to the plantation situated in brilliant, natural environs. The tea plats are placed in long snake-like rows which are terraced. Even today, the gathering of the leaves, the harvest, is done in a traditional method. The leaves can be collected only in early morning and only by hand. Always only the top of the leaves can be plucked. The tea collection requires great expertise and careful work just like the processing. The leaves are delivered in sacks to the processing factory and from there, they are sent to the drying room on a carrying line. There, the teas are poured in grading and wilted with huge ventilators. The leaf stalks, fibers, and possible pollutants are removed by a filtering method. Then, adhering to - rules, the leaves are fermented. A part of the teas are put in circulation without being flavored. However, in foreign markets, flavored types are more popular there are types fibered with lemon, orange, cocoa, cinnamon, wild fruits, exotic fruits, and bergamot. The most popular among the locals is the vanilla flavored one. Tea can be packed of 200 grams; but, more produced of the filter kind which for extra charge, is also sold in with a package with aroma seal. On the Bwa Shari plantation, the different kinds also have names so we can find tea that's called blue penny, corsier, or polivishani. A pleasant tea house has been established on top of the hill from where not only the plantation can be seen, but, also the whole island and here, the visitors can taste the various kinds before purchasing any of them. Of course, tea cakes are also offered with a tea and we can also choose with the types of sugar of Mauritrius. In a small factory museum, we can see many interesting things from the model of clippers carrying tea to unused old machines.
