Meshfree finite deformation thin‐shell analysis
Calculations on general point-set surfaces are attractive because of their flexibility and simplicity in the preprocessing but present important challenges. The absence of a mesh makes it nontrivial to decide if two neighboring points in the three-dimensional embedding are nearby or rather far apart on the manifold. Furthermore, the topology of surfaces is generally not that of an open two-dimensional set, ruling out global parametrizations. We propose a general and simple numerical method analogous to the mathematical theory of manifolds, in which the point-set surface is described by a set of overlapping charts forming a complete atlas. We proceed in four steps: (1) partitioning of the node set into subregions of trivial topology; (2) automatic detection of the geometric structure of the surface patches by nonlinear dimensionality reduction methods; (3) parametrization of the surface using smooth meshfree (here maximum-entropy) approximants; and (4) gluing together the patch representations by means of a partition of unity. Each patch may be viewed as a meshfree macro-element. We exemplify the generality, flexibility, and accuracy of the proposed approach by numerically approximating the geometrically nonlinear Kirchhoff--Love theory of thin-shells. We analyze standard benchmark tests as well as point-set surfaces of complex geometry and topology. Stanford bunny: geometrically nonlinear meshfree thin-shell analysis I
Geometrically nonlinear meshfree thin-shell analysis, in the context of Kirchhoff-Love theory, of the Stanford bunny model. It is subjected to an incremental displacements as it is shown by the arrows in the video. We used a Saint Venant-Kirchhoff material model. The frames correspond to different displacement magnitudes (static incremental displacement). Material and Geometrical parameters for the thin-shell (complex geometry) E = 1e07 Young's modulus nu = 0.3 Poisson's ratio h = 0.005 thickness of the thin-shell. The height of the object is around 1.5. Stucco Sprayer from www.mortarsprayer.com applying stucco on a Rastra ICF block wall. Wayne Previti of East-West Concrete uses the sprayer to finish ICF and Concrete block walls. He has also use the sprayer in thin shell structures for ferrocement. stucco application The process Wayne uses for a sponge sand finish is 3 steps. Spray the stucco Trowel it to a smooth with as little troweling as possible. Rub the surface as it is setting up with a lightly moistened sponge. Note the way he pulses the trigger on/off so that he can spray a 1/8 inch average final coating. Wayne reports that when using the sprayer he and one employee get as much work done as they used to do with 3-4 people. If you have questions about how to stucco a block wall, spray shotcrete or other plastering questions please call us. We are here to help your project go faster and better. www.mortarsprayer.com

Ruth Falkenberg and Larry Nelson- Dana Crawford Award Winners
Ruth Falkenberg and Larry Nelson have set a standard of civic engagement, intelligent development and historic preservation for decades in Colorado. They specialize in the development and redevelopment of commercial and residential buildings and award-winning rehabilitation of historic retail, office and industrial buildings Ruth, a Colorado native, is a graduate of Colorado College where she studied philosophy. She worked with her father in a custom home building and remodeling business where she got her first taste of the building industry. Among her many "Civic Sports" as her brother termed them, Ruth served on the Urban Design Forum Board of Directors, the Citywide Historic Preservation Steering Committee and was appointed to the Landmark Commission where she served for 12 years. She currently sits on the Boards of the Colorado Historical Foundation and the Civic Center Conservancy. Ruth served on the first Lower Downtown Design Review Board and Larry is its current Chair. While working as a real estate and executive lender at the United Bank of Cherry Creek, Ruth met Larry Nelson a customer and general contractor. Larry came to Colorado in the late '60s from North Dakota to attend the University of Colorado. In 1970, he formed a custom woodworking and furniture design company. He values the design and quality historic landmarks and other older buildings, and enjoys the challenge of renovating them to a new useful life without compromising their inherent character. In ...

MORTAR STUCCO PLASTER SPRAYER PUMP
Hi I'm Jody Smith owner/artisan of Overlay Solutions, LLC based out of Summerville, SC. I wanted to create this video for my friend Nolan Scheid owner of Mortarsprayer.com. Here are more details from their website www.mortarsprayer.com Our stucco spraying tools are used to spray plaster, stucco, small scale shotcrete, papercrete, GFRC, earthen mixes and more. Stucco sprayers are used for traditional plastering and many alternative building methods. Stucco application with this hopper sprayer is efficient on traditional stucco, exterior stucco, straw bale, Earth bag, insulated panels, Surface Bonded Block and thin shell ferrocement. This mortar sprayer opens up the world of stucco application for small scale shotcrete, thinshell construction, LVSC (Low Velocity Sprayed Concrete) in structures like SCIPs (Structural Concrete Insulated Panels) and more. As a heavy texture sprayer, this tool is being used to spray popcorn texture using California Stucco. The range of this sprayer is from a heavy texture of 1 up to 1″ thickness for structural layers. The stucco sprayer (plaster sprayer) is useful on a scale from stucco repair to a complete exterior stucco coating. The result is often as fast or faster than using a stucco pump. This plaster sprayer will save you time and money up front especially compared to the high cost of a stucco pump. Spraying stucco with the stucco sprayer is also much easier than with a plaster pump. The Tirolessa USA sprayer costs less than the ...

Animation of binary system developing a spiral structure
Supplementary Information of the paper "Unexpectedly large mass loss during the thermal pulse cycle of the red giant star R Sculptoris," authored by M. Maercker, S. Mohamed, WHT Vlemmings, S. Ramstedt, MAT Groenewegen, E. Humphreys, F. Kerschbaum, M. Lindqvist, H. Olofsson, C. Paladini, M. Wittkowski, I. de Gregorio-Monsalvo & L.-A. Nyman, published in Nature 490, 232--234 (11 October 2012) DOI: dx.doi.org Abstract: "The asymptotic-giant-branch star R Sculptoris is surrounded by a detached shell of dust and gas. The shell originates from a thermal pulse during which the star underwent a brief period of increased mass loss. It has hitherto been impossible to constrain observationally the timescales and mass-loss properties during and after a thermal pulse—parameters that determine the lifetime of the asymptotic giant branch and the amount of elements returned by the star. Here we report observations of CO emission from the circumstellar envelope and shell around R Sculptoris with an angular resolution of 1.3″. What was previously thought to be only a thin, spherical shell with a clumpy structure is revealed to also contain a spiral structure. Spiral structures associated with circumstellar envelopes have been previously seen, leading to the conclusion that the systems must be binaries. Combining the observational data with hydrodynamic simulations, we conclude that R Sculptoris is a binary system that underwent a thermal pulse about 1800 years ago, lasting approximately ...

Hyperboloid Adziogol Lighthouse by VGShukhov near Kherson
Shukhov also left a lasting legacy to the Constructivist architecture of early Soviet Russia. As a leading specialist of metallic structures (hyperboloid structures, thin-shell structures, tensile structures), he may be compared with Gustave Eiffel. Shukhov's innovative and exquisite constructions still grace many towns across the former Russian Empire: thin-shell structures exhibition pavilions Hyperboloid Adziogol Lighthouse by VGShukhov near Kherson, Ukraine, 1911 Adziogol Lighthouse (Ukrainian: Аджигольський маяк; Russian: Аджигольский маяк), also known as Stanislav Range Rear Light, is a vertical lattice hyperboloid structure of steel bars, serving as an active ...
