The Second Temple was an important Jewish Holy Temple (Hebrew: בֵּית־הַמִּקְדָּשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי, Bet HaMikdash HaSheni; Arabic: بيت القدس: Beit al-Quds) which stood on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem during the Second Temple period, between 516 BCE and 70 CE. It replaced Solomon's Temple (the First Temple) which was destroyed by the Neo-Babylonian Empire in 586 BCE, when Jerusalem was conquered and a portion of the population of the Kingdom of Judah was taken into exile in Babylon.
Jewish eschatology includes a belief that the Second Temple will be replaced by a future Third Temple.
Traditional rabbinic literature state that the Second Temple stood for 420 years and based on the 2nd-century work Seder Olam Rabbah, placed construction in 350 BCE (3408 AM), 166 years later than secular estimates, and destruction in 70 CE (3829 AM).
The accession of Cyrus the Great of the Persian Empire in 559 BCE made the re-establishment of the city of Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the Temple possible. According to the Bible, when the Jewish exiles returned to Jerusalem following a decree from Cyrus the Great (Ezra 1:1-4, 2 Chron 36:22-23), construction started at the original site of Solomon's Temple, which had remained a devastated heap during the approximately 70 years of captivity (Dan. 9:1-2). After a relatively brief halt due to opposition from peoples who had filled the vacuum during the Jewish captivity (Ezra 4), work resumed c. 521 BCE under Darius the Great (Ezra 5) and was completed during the sixth year of his reign (c. 516 BCE), with the temple dedication taking place the following year.

The Herodian version of the model shows visitors how excavators believe the Temple Mount site appeared prior to its destruction by Roman troops in the year 70 CE. The focus is on the southern portion of the enclosure, and includes reconstructions of Robinson's Arch (an early overpass linking the top of the platform with the major city street below), the Hulda Street gates and passages onto the platform, the Royal Stoa, and the Second Temple. The reconstruction is based on the excavations at the Temple Mount under the direction of Ronny Reich and regional archeologist Gideon Avni. On view at the Davidson Center,
http://JewishHistory.org The Second Temple was lacking in "The Holy Spirit". It did not have prophecy, there has been no prophecy since the prophet Malachi. Due to this, it was much harder to have leadership and direction, so corruption ensues and spirituality declined. The Eternal Flame of the First Temple did not exist in the Second Temple. This symbolized a lack of Torah and connection to G-d. We still have a reminder in Jewish synagogues of the Eternal Flame, called a "ner Tamid." The Ark of the Covenant was also missing from the Second Temple since Jeremiah buried it somewhere. This included the 10 commandments. We do have a tradition that it will eventually be rediscovered. Due to this, the Holy of Holies was essentially empty, aside from the Foundation Stone. Nowadays...

EXPOSED: Secrets of Herods Second Temple. (Pt.1) For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. Luke 8 v 17 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. Ephesians 5 v 11-12 Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always met; and in secret have I said nothing. John 18 v 20 For he has made him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5 v 21 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. Hebrews 9 v 2...
he children of Israel have been in a long, dark tunnel - exiled and homeless in Assyria and Babylon - without a place to worship their God. In faithfulness, God gives them a light and a hope for the restoration of both Jerusalem and the House of God, commissioning a passionate and brave man named Nehemiah to return to rebuild the walls Jerusalem – in just 52 days! Nehemiah then gathers all the people in rededication to God, and we witness the children of Israel’s physical and spiritual return, rebuilding, and restoration.
