Neil Clarke or Neil Clark may refer to:
Clarke is an Anglo-Irish surname which means "clerk". The surname is of English and Irish origin but the original word comes from Latin for clericus. There are some surname variants, including Clark and Clerk.Clarke is also uncommonly chosen as a given name.
Clarke is a popular surname in Ireland. The Irish version of the surname is believed to have come from County Galway and County Antrim and spread to County Donegal and County Dublin. The name is derived from the Irish Gaelic sept O'Cleirigh, meaning "clerk".
Clarke as well as Clark is also a widespread surname in England. The English version comes from Anglo-Saxon origin and was used in the Middle Ages for the name of a scribe or secretary. The word "clerc" came from the pre 7th Century Olde English "Cler(e)c" (meaning priest) originally denoted to a member of a religious order only, but later grew rapidly outside the religious order. In the Middle Ages virtually the only people who could read and write were members of the religious order, making the word heavily associated with literacy. Thus the surname became a popular term for a literate man, particularly for the professional secretary and the scholar. The English surnames "Clarke" and "Clark" are both spelling variations of the surname "Clerk".
John Richard Pilger (born 9 October 1939) is an Australian journalist based since 1962 in the United Kingdom. Since his early years as a war correspondent in Vietnam, Pilger has been a strong critic of American, Australian and British foreign policy, which he considers to be driven by an imperialist agenda. Pilger has also criticised his native country's treatment of indigenous Australians and the practices of the mainstream media.
His career as a documentary film maker began with The Quiet Mutiny (1970), made during one of his visits to Vietnam, and has continued with over fifty documentaries since then. Other works in this form include Year Zero (1979), about the aftermath of the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia, and Death of a Nation: The Timor Conspiracy (1993). Pilger's many documentary films on indigenous Australians include The Secret Country (1985) and Utopia (2013). In the British print media, Pilger worked at the Daily Mirror from 1963-86, and wrote a regular column for the New Statesman magazine from 1991 to 2014.

Publisher and editor Neil Clarke talks about the creation and workings of the award winning online magazine, Clarkesworld. He discusses the submission process, how the magazine issues are put together, and the business model used to generate income and keep the publication going. He also talks about how the SF genre has changed since online fiction has become commonplace. This interview was conducted on October 12, 2012, at the Capclave 2012 science fiction convention, in front of a live audience.
Theresa May described it as a ‘historical moment from which there can be no turning back.’ Nigel Farage celebrated it in typical style with a pint in a pub. 279 days after the British people voted to leave the European Union, Article 50 – the EU get-out clause – was engaged. What part did Twitter and its 140 characters play in propelling Donald Trump to the US presidency and what could we learn from it? We ask Peter Oborne, coauthor of ‘How Trump thinks: His tweets and the birth of a new political language’. Then, Iranian voters will be asking what external threats might possibly be awaiting them. Could Donald Trump’s campaign pledge to “rip up” the 2016 Accord move them toward a more hardline conservative government or will they stick with the reformist agenda of the current Rouhani administration? We invited Catherine Shakdam, political analyst and writer on the Middle East, for her thoughts.

Post-punk band ‘The The’ provided some of the most memorable and thought-provoking music of the 1980s and 90s and were both a critical and commercial success. They have now not only released a new single but have also produced a new film, ‘The Inertia Variations,’ which challenges the current political landscape. So we invited the multi-talented singer, songwriter, film-maker and political activist and the man behind ‘The The,’ Matt Johnson, into the Sputnik Studio to tell us more. As the West’s new strategy in the Middle East and Africa seems to go beyond regime change and instead appears to look for total destruction, we discuss its exploitative and often racist foreign policies with world affair analyst Dan Glazebrook.

Six months into his presidency, Michel Temer is overseeing the country’s worst recession; people are taking to the streets and the anti-corruption investigation “Operation Carwash” could see Temer himself impeached just like his predecessor, Dilma Rousseff. And from South America to South Africa, and another BRICS country facing political and economic turmoil as thousands have been marching against President Jacob Zuma. Last June, North Korean state media hailed Donald Trump as a “far-sighted presidential candidate.” It’s unlikely they’re saying the same thing now. Trump’s gunboat diplomacy and the threats of military action against Pyongyang have greatly increased tensions in the region. Could we be heading for a major military confrontation – even World War Three? Or is it all just saber-rattling from a US president keen to gain the approval of foreign policy hawks back home? Who better to invite onto Sputnik than the leading North Korea and China expert Keith Bennett. And a battle of another kind is being fought on the other side of the world. Under the leadership of Hugo Chavez, Venezuela became a beacon for progressive politics the world over. But the “economic warfare” the US is currently waging aga...

Will government concessions be enough to quell the discontent, or is Morocco heading for a genuine people’s revolution? We invited Dr. Riaz Karim, director of Veritas Centre for Strategic Studies, to help us find out.
