Brodmann areas were originally defined and numbered by the GermananatomistKorbinian Brodmann based on the cytoarchitectural organization of neurons he observed in the cerebral cortex using the Nissl method of cell staining. Brodmann published his maps of cortical areas in humans, monkeys, and other species in 1909, along with many other findings and observations regarding the general cell types and laminar organization of the mammalian cortex. The same Brodmann area number in different species does not necessarily indicate homologous areas. A similar, but more detailed cortical map was published by Constantin von Economo and Georg N. Koskinas in 1925.
Present importance
Brodmann areas have been discussed, debated, refined, and renamed exhaustively for nearly a century and remain the most widely known and frequently cited cytoarchitectural organization of the human cortex.
Brodmann area 42 is also known as the posterior transverse temporal area 42 (H), and is also a subdivision of the temporal lobe. Brodmann area 42 is bounded medially by the anterior transverse temporal area 41 (H) and laterally by the superior temporal area 22 (Brodmann-1909).

A neuroimaging study of guitarists found increased activity in the Brodmann area 45 of the brain while they were improvising blues rock sequences ... This mainly involved Brodmann area 46 of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.
The region researchers identified is part of the Brodmann area in the monkey frontal lobe, which has dozens of smaller parts that are associated with all sorts of brain activities including speech, hearing, and movement.
... the same parts of the brain that are most active when we let our minds wander—the medial prefrontal cortex, including a region called the Brodmann Area 10—are involved in self-referential thinking.
However, scientists haven't stopped with just the four big lobes, as the cerebral cortex can be further divided into 52 regions known as Brodmann's areas ... Brodmann's areas have also been mapped to ...

Researchers have found evidence in humans that cells in Brodmann Area 9 in the brain, considered important for self-awareness and inhibitory control, appear biologically 'older' in people with cocaine use disorder (CUD), according to a new study.
